Morphettville is where Adelaide metro racing heads to on Saturday. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out thirteen metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out ten metres for the remainder.

Open race to start the meeting but I reckon 2 Pool Pony (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can measure up here. This gelding was a strong winner on testing ground at Murray Bridge last time, lapping up the wet track to win and win well. He has won at the trip previously, he maps to do no work in the run and off that last start, I think he’s in with a shout at odds.

4 Battle Royale (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has less convictions than most and comes here off a win. That was over the mile here at the Twilight meeting where he was a dominant all the way winner, leading throughout and was strong to the line in getting the job done. Think he finds the front comfortably once again and in front, he’ll take running down.

6 Crown Harmonium (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but he has the finale to be dangerous if within range. He ran at Benalla last start over the mile where he got too far out of his ground but worked home okay enough albeit was never a threat behind Wings Of Song. If there is tempo in front, genuine tempo, he can launch over the top.

6 Badonkidonk (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Darryl Dodson and in a tricky race, I reckon he’s the way to go. He has won his past two, leading throughout to spank them at Murray Bridge two back before going to the Bordertown Cup where he was on speed throughout and toughed it out best to win again. Has run well at the track/distance previously and the way he’s racing, he appeals.

5 Thrill Kill (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is working up to a win. Peter Hardacre trained gelding that ran a fortnight back at Gawler when just off the speed and tried hard but didn’t have the finale to put them away, sticking on well enough in defeat behind Apache Star. He does tend to save his best for the track and hard fit, up to 1800m, he appeals.

4 Crown Mint (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Richards/Moyle after racing last Saturday at Murray Bridge where he was near the speed throughout over the mile but lacked the change up speed to go with them in the straight and was held when fourth. Back up in trip, on the back up, he can run a much improved race.

2 Press Down (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it for Peter Hardacre. He ran two weeks ago at Gawler where he gave them a start and a beating, letting down powerfully to get a well deserved win. He has been around the mark throughout this prep and now he has got a win on the board, he can keep winning.

1 Jacks On Ice (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has good upside to come and off the first up run, he’s a clear threat. That came in the Gawler race mentioned above when getting a decent sit in transit near the speed and presented to win but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece and was run down late by Press Down. Better for the run, he appeals.

6 Exalted Dame (Bet Now:  $SP.00) rises in grade/depth but Jon O’Connor has this mare absolutely flying. She ran two weeks back at Gawler where she again got a good run and presented at the right time to finish best in a strong performance. Strong 1200m here should be fine and despite rising in grade/depth, she’s in the mix.

17 Idracowra (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Stuart Padman trained filly that resumes after debuting in July at Balaklava when attempting to lead throughout and giving a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Gruelling. Good racing style and right down in the weights after the claim, she’ll take running down.

2 Never Surrender (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win his maiden for Andrew Gluyas. This guy has finished runner up in all three runs this time in, the latest coming over 1200m at Murray Bridge when back off the speed and kept finding the line in a good effort behind Bene Magic. Tricky gate, but only has to hold his form to be around the mark.

7 Sioux Warrior (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is suited back to a maiden. He was racing in a Class 1 at Gawler last time out where they rode him with intent to land on speed and he fought on really well in defeat but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Lapilli. That was his first run in just under three months so with room for improvement, he’ll be around the mark.

9 Alainge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. This filly has had two career outings for Stuart Padman, catching the eye on debut at Clare from the back before going to Oakbank when ridden with intent and it paid off because she spanked her rivals and was impressive. This isn’t a strong race and Maggie Collett…just about the form rider in Australia the moment. Happy to be in her corner.

2 Karaka Kiwi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found a win on the board and he can go on with it now. Jordan Frew trained gelding that was racing well without winning but he got a maiden win last time at Murray Bridge, lapping up the mile on the wet ground and he was quite dominant late. He’s promised to do that. Now he has, he can win again.

1 First Tosen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth including in an open race. This gelding has done little wrong in a five start career, winning his maiden at Strathalbyn two back before going here when on a somewhat moderate speed and just lacked the turn of foot to go with them late in the piece behind Battle Royale. The depth here isn’t deep and both stable/rider is flying. Definite winning hope.

4 Sous Les Nuages (Bet Now:  $SP.00) tends to save his best when racing at Morphettville so I think in an open race, he’ll do me each way. He ran over 2400m at Sandown last time out when just off the speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Glentaneous. Maps to get a suck run and the overall depth isn’t deep. He runs well IMO.

6 Manzala (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing on Boxing Day where he kept finding the line from just off the speed, driving hard to just miss out on picking up Call Me Vexatious. He’s a 2500m specialist that will keep finding the line and is very genuine. Leading contender against this lot.

8 Sasun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one for exotics for Ali Brook. He ran here on Boxing Day in the Call Me Vexatious race mentioned above when just off the speed throughout and was very one paced when the sprint went on but he picked up and was pretty good late in the piece. Not sure he wins but can finish top four.

8 Zebella (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks one of the best across Australia for the day. Phillip Stokes trained mare that resumed three weeks ago over 1100m on bottomless ground. She was there to gap her rivals but first up on the heavy deck, condition beat her in the end when second to Roxy Blue. Firmer footing, fitter, depth isn’t overly deep…I think she has a bit on these. Very keen.

4 Cool The Jets (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a nice horse for Team Blanch that appeals. He won over this track/distance at the Twilight meeting, giving them a start and a beating to launch late and finish over the top for a big win. Likely spots them a start again but should be strong at the end. Leading contender to the favourite.

10 Shooting For Stars (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Clarken/O’Shea trained mare that ran two weeks back at Gawler where she got a fair way out of her ground but tracked up nicely and loomed to win but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Just Like Lisa. If she can settle closer and be within range, she’s dangerous.

1 Humboldt (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win a race for Michael Hickmott and I reckon he can get that elusive win here. He ran at Morphettville three weeks ago and tried his guts out on the wet track but had no answers for the finale of Headphones. Firmer footing, hard fit, depth not as deep…this is D-Day for him I feel.

3 Rebel Consortium (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. She needed the run fresh before going to 1700m at Gawler two weeks ago where she tried hard but had no answers late when second to impressive winner Missile Star. She has won at 2100m so 1800m here looks ideal and third up, she should be at peak fitness, ready to go.

7 Dual Fuel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) finds it very hard to win but she is a model of consistency for Peter Hardacre. She last ran at Murray Bridge where I thought she was given a 12/10 steer by Voorham but had no answers for the finale of Badonkidonk. Couldn’t back her to win but for exotics, she must be included.

2 Mighty Sapphire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for the Bain/Taylor stable. He resumed at this track on the Twilight meeting where he gave them a start and a beating to win quite impressively I thought, drawing clear to win impressively. Looks like he is enjoying life in SA and he strikes another winnable race. One of the hardest to beat I’d suggest.

7 Noble Magnate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one for multiples. Team Jolly trained gelding that ran two weeks back at Gawler where he seemingly had every chance but couldn’t quite finish the race off well enough when fourth to Exalted Dame. Depth here isn’t as deep, hard fit now and he does like racing here. First four contender.

10 Knightstown (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an enigma but that can be said about most of these. Richards/Moyle trained gelding that resumed in the race mentioned above won by Mighty Sapphire where he got a fair way out of his ground and albeit made up headway, he wasn’t threatening. If he can settle closer or get a drag into the race, he can finish over the top.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 2 Press Down

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 4 Sous Les Nuages
