Ten races will be run and won at Doomben this Saturday with the George Moore Stakes headlining the card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:58) Select Fire Systems Plate 1050m
In the corner of 5 Miss Lot Won (Bet Now: $4.80) for the Tom Button stable. This filly has had three career outings and has gotten better with each outing. First two came in town before she went back home to Rockhampton when heavily backed and duly saluted, bolting up and while the time was nothing flash relative to the day, it was still a good time. She can take this out.
4 Dusty Tycoon (Bet Now: $2.45) is a daughter of Written Tycoon for the Rob Heathcoate stable that had trialled well prior to debuting two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast when on speed throughout and despite wandering about under pressure, she knuckled down strongly when asked and was too good. Has that run under the belt and you’d like to think there is natural improvement.
2 Count The Coin (Bet Now: $9.00) is a big watch here. Kevin Kemp trains this colt, who is on debut. He is a full brother to Plumaro, a talented mare who was one of the better juveniles of her generation in this part of the world, so on breeding, you’d like to think this guy has ability. Hasn’t trialled publicly but I’m sure has had a jumpout or two at Toowoomba. Market will be your guide.
Race 2. (14:33) Tab Summer Racing Carn. (bm70) 1630m
Stepping up to the mile should suit the Edmonds mare 14 Simply Sacred (Bet Now: $3.50). This former Kiwi has had two runs for the stable, both over 1400m at the Gold Coast. Gave them a spanking first up before racing there again two weeks ago when held up before getting clear and her class coming to the fore. Looking for more ground, which she gets here, and overall, this isn’t a strong race.
Good little test here for 6 So Dapper (Bet Now: $2.25) but he does look a progressive up and coming stayer for the Symons/Laxon stable. He has had four career outings, all of which have come on his home track at the Sunny Coast a fortnight back and he was impressive in leading throughout. To the eye, it was outstanding, but he got it easy in front and dashed home. Harder here, but he might just be better than them.
7 Tycoon Street (Bet Now: $10.00) is unknown at the mile but given how well she’s racing, I think she’s worth a look. Ran over 1400m at the Gold Coast two weeks ago when sitting off a good speed before being presented wider on the turn and finishing off strongly to score a narrow but impressive win. Harder here and unknown at 1600m, but racing as if she’ll handle it.
Race 3. (15:08) Tab Cntry Cups Challenge (rs0mw) 1630m
7 Hunter Island (Bet Now: $35.00) is ten years of age but Patrick O’Toole has him flying. Strong winner of the Emerald Cup two back before contesting the Charleville Cup when making a sweeping run and trying hard when second to dominant winner Money Ad. Bubba Tilley rides this horse very well and he’ll be strong at the end of a hard mile.
4 Mason’s Chance (Bet Now: $7.50) is just about the best performed horse when it comes to racing at TAB meets. Put together a couple of sharp wins with big weights at Townsville before going to Rocky when trying hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to The Baker. Did win here last year in a country race and is flying. 1600m is the query.
12 Eschiele (Bet Now: $11.00) is going well for Leslie Baker. Beaten a fair way in the Charleville Cup before going to the Roma Cup when back in the run and finishing off strongly to run third to Atouchmore. Off the Charleville Cup, can’t see him winning here in that regard, but with these country races, anything goes really, and stable booked Fradd early.
Race 4. (15:48) Winning Rupert Plate 1200m
More depth to face for 2 Master Jamie (Bet Now: $7.00), but he’s an absolute beauty for Graeme Green and I think he can measure up. He’s one of the best 3YO’s in North Queensland and does the most of his racing on his home track at Rockhampton, the scene of his last start win when lumping 61.5kg and running sharp time relative to the meeting. Gets really good weight relief, hard fit, lands on speed…gee I think he’ll run well.
1 Ready To Roam (Bet Now: $7.50) is suited back to 1200m I feel. He ran at this track/distance two back and was terrible behind The Odyssey before stepping back to 1000m at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago and worked home well from off the pace when third to the in form Kalik. He bounced back to positive form and now back up to 1200m, he is a winning threat.
The first up run of 10 Battle Strike (Bet Now: $6.00) in the Kalik race from two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast was just odd. Tardy away, forced to do work in the run and was wide on the turn, but didn’t really turn it up and kept on in a pretty solid performance. Noteworthy that despite impressive trials leading in, he was a serious drifter late in betting. Perhaps needed the run? Watch the market and see what it does here.
Race 5. (16:28) BRC Christmas Movies (bm78) 1110m
The race sets up well for 4 Rock Beat (Bet Now: $2.40) for the in form Sears camp, who resumed on his home track at Toowoomba where he got the suck run just behind the speed before getting clear air and dashing right away late to spank his rivals. Proven city performer and despite a tricky gate, he should get cover, sit off a fast speed and launch at them late.
Fresh is best for 6 Lifesaver (Bet Now: $6.50) and given he’s five weeks between runs for a fast run 1110m, he’s a key chance. He last raced over 1200m at Eagle Farm when trying hard but couldn’t get past Tambo’s Mate, who was impressive and has well and truly ticked that form off since. Fresh back to 1110m looks a really good set up for this Matt Dunn sprinter.
3 Bring It Home Pop (Bet Now: $8.00) is a son of Rothesay for Darryl Hansen that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since July 27 at Eagle Farm when down the track behind Freddie Fox Trot after leading, feeling the pinch in the straight. Trialled on Tuesday at the Sunny Coast and closed off okay late behind Alligator Blood. His best is clearly good enough.
Race 6. (17:08) Hamilton Hotel (bm90) 2030m
Fitter, up to 2000m…really keen on 14 A Man To Match (Bet Now: $4.00). He ran over 1800m at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago in a race totally dominated in front by So Dapper, but that horse got it very easy in front and those behind really had no chance, but really liked the way A Man To Match found the line. This looks a really good set up for the four year old and am quite keen on him.
Want to give 8 Dawson Diva (Bet Now: $4.80) another chance. This Oaks runner up was a brilliant winner two back over the mile at Eagle Farm before going to 1800m at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago and on face value, she was disappointing, but given the leader walked in front, those behind were always going to struggle. I think up to ten furlongs off a more genuine tempo, she can bounce back.
Up to 2000m does look a big tick for 6 Zourkhan (Bet Now: $20.00). Just wish the track had some give in it for him. He resumed over the mile at Eagle Farm back on October 19 when back and wide and never really in the hunt but did make up ground very late in the piece behind Zofonic Dancer. Has the run under the belt…maybe might need one more run and some rain, but convinced he’s going well.
Race 7. (17:50) Mode Plate 1200m
Like 6 Karaja (Bet Now: $4.80) as a horse and I’ll be in her corner here. This filly resumes for Matty Dunn after a pretty good Winter prep, where she contested some decent races and her racing pattern probably stopped her winning her more races. Been given a good break and she looked outstanding in a recent Ballina trial win, running sharp time under minimal pressure.
I’m a fan of 11 Jeweliana (Bet Now: $9.00) and up to 1200m and fitter, she’s dangerous. She resumed over 1000m at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago where she got back to near last in the run from a wide gate and was never really a winning threat but liked the way she found the line late behind impressive winner Sugar Boom. Big tick is the step up in trip and form from the Winter reads very well.
3 Oh Five Glory (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Team Hulbert trained filly that has finished behind Sugar Boom in both runs back from a spell, both over the 1000m at the Sunny Coast. The latest came two weeks ago and stuck to the task pretty well in defeat but was safely held. I think she’s a filly wanting a step up in trip, which is what she gets here, and her 2YO form does read well for this.
Race 8. (18:25) George Moore Stakes 1200m
I’d love a step up in trip for 10 Chapter And Verse (Bet Now: $5.00) but despite remaining at 1200m, he does appeal. Loomed to win the Keith Noud first up but I reckon his condition just gave out late in the piece when a close up fourth to Outback Barbie. I reckon he wants 1350m-1400m, but a fast run 1200m will here with the run under the belt is a good set up too.
7 Outback Barbie (Bet Now: $3.30) looks an obvious contender. Tony Gollan trains this mare, who was backed off the map when resuming two weeks ago in the Keith Noud and under Jim Byrne, her class got her home in the end when finishing best over the in form Tambo’s Mate. Now she has a win on the board, her confidence should be up and prove very hard to beat once again.
3 I’m A Rippa (Bet Now: $7.50) is well named. He’s an absolute beauty for Tony Gollan and just gives his all on speed, which is what he did first up in the Keith Noud, giving a really good kick from the front, but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Outback Barbie. Copped pressure in front there, so if he can get a cheap 200m sectional this time, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 9. (18:55) Tab Plate (c6) 1350m
In the corner of 3 Macewen (Bet Now: $4.00). Tony Gollan has him in career best form at the moment but was very well placed to win here three weeks ago. Had the 52.5kg on his back and after getting a cheap early sectional, he was always going to be hard to run down, running a tick over 33 for the final 600m. He’s hard to beat…but can he keep winning? Time will tell.
1 Enterprise Prince (Bet Now: $5.50) is a progressive son of Rothesay for Mick Lakey that makes his return to racing, having not raced since October 5 over 1400m at Eagle Farm when held up before getting clear and finishing off hard to win again and continue a real purple patch. Been given a little freshen up and his tick over trial at Deagon a couple of weeks ago was quite good.
6 Valario (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Natalie McCall trained gelding that is flying I feel. All three runs this prep have come at the six furlongs, the latest coming three weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he looked as though he’d be a good thing beaten, but the gap came in time and he burst through to get up on the peg. Crying out for more ground, which he gets here, and he’ll be strong late.
