30/10/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Bendigo, Bendigo Cup day

Like the look of 6 Zoujea (Bet Now: $2.10) for Danny O’Brien. This girl resumed in a maiden at Sale when well supported and despite taking a little while to get into her work, gee she was strong late and impressive to the line in winning. Couple of winners have come from the maiden, so the form reads well for this and despite rising in grade/depth, she looks a decent prospect.

Is the key to 4 Ultra Smart (Bet Now: $7.00) fresh legs? Her best recent runs would suggest so. Early on in her career she promised to be a nice mare but has gone off the boil since then. Resumes again for Pat Carey and first up, she can go well, plus her recent jumpout was encouraging. If she ran to her best, she probably wins. Watch the market and see what it does.

3 Sky Call (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Mitch Beer trained mare who was a drifter in betting when resuming on her home track at Albury but despite having no friends in the market, gee she was impressive from the back in winning, clocking good late splits in doing, and the form out of that race has been good. Stable rarely hop the border and leave without collecting decent prizemoney. She’s a knockout chance.

Fitter and firmer footing, in the corner of the Mick Kent trained 9 Mnemba (Bet Now: $5.00). This mare ran over 1100m on Moe Cup Day where she just got too far back in the run in a race where those on speed dominated, and that was the pattern early on in the day. Her run had plenty of merit to it. Gets right down in the weights, has upside…finds a very winnable race.

5 Hi Stranger (Bet Now: $3.70) is a son of Zoffany for Shane Fliedner resuming. This three year old had a pretty good 2YO season, with all four runs coming in town where he was good without winning. On his home track, first up, it looks like an ideal set up to get him ready to win on the big day. The knock I have is that his most recent jumpout was just fair I thought and 1100m is short of his best trip. But he has the runs on the board.

4 Toojay (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Jason Hunter trained gelding that showed good early toe to lead when resuming on Moe Cup Day and gave a reasonable kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second to Glass Ceiling. Form out of that maiden has already been franked, she rolls forward, gets the blinkers on…doubt she wins, but I think she’s a good chance fill a first four spot.

8 Manhattan Spector (Bet Now: $3.50) is one of the hardest to beat. John Sadler trains this colt, who debuted over 1200m on Cranbourne Cup where he was a bit tardy to begin with and was back near last and never really a winning factor, but he was a clear eye catcher when balanced. Bigger track and up to 1400m are two big ticks and the stable is having a good run at the moment.

1 Iowa Hawkeye (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Lope De Vega gelding for Michael Moroney that is first up. This four year old hasn’t raced since the latter part of the Autumn over 1700m at Geelong when placing behind Argente Fiscale. Like that he resumes first up at 1400m, recent Flemington jumpout was good and overall, this doesn’t appear to be the strongest maiden going around.

4 Chilula (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Shaun Dwyer trained mare that had jumped out just fair on the home track here prior to resuming over 1300m here when on speed but was a beaten horse at the top of the straight and just whacked away when fifth to Beehunter, in a race where the form has been franked by Banquo. Senior rider on, gate one, fitter…gets another chance.

This 3YO event looks to have a bit of depth to it, but I think the race sets up well for 6 Rocking Eagle (Bet Now: $9.50). Was keen on him running well on debut at Bairnsdale and under a lovely ride from Mick Dee, he was far too good for his rivals and was strong to the line, which I anticipate is what he’ll be here with several go forward horses lining up. Hard to beat.

7 Sea Dragon (Bet Now: $4.20) looks a talented colt for the Mick Kent stable that comes here off the back of a pretty sharp maiden win on Seymour Cup Day. He controlled things in front under Luke Nolen and when clicked up, he showed a good turn of foot and put them away impressively, running good late splits from the front. Has improvement and upside, so I think he’ll measure up.

11 Miss Geneva (Bet Now: $12.00) represents a bit of value. She has drawn sticky gates at her past couple, finishing off with purpose two back at Benalla before going to Albury when a close up third to Sky Call, who goes around in the opener, so you’ll know how strong that form is by the time this race comes around. Has gate one, so she can sit much closer in the run if need be.

4 Okotoks (Bet Now: $4.80) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. He ran over the mile on Cranbourne Cup Day when held up at a vital stage when building momentum which probably cost him the win when a closing third to the in form Strategic Phil. Drawn out so should get clear air from the outset and finds a relatively thin benchmark 70.

2 Blenders Edition (Bet Now: $4.80) is third up here for Rob Hickmott so he should be hard fit, ready to go. Was a real eye catcher first up at Caulfield behind Harbour Views before going to this track/distance where the market said he had three legs and ran accordingly behind Zouy’s Comet. Happy to forgive that because the resumption was a beauty and that form is very good.

7 Lord Of Darkness (Bet Now: $10.00) could be the knockout. Paul Preusker trains this gelding, who is third up and ready to peak. Resumed with a solid third to Smart Horse at Mildura before going to Hamilton when back in the run and making ground late without being a winning threat. Has gate one, so Holland can have him much closer in the run and be dangerous.

1 Like To Think So (Bet Now: $5.00) is hard to beat here IMO for Kym Hann. This gelding is first up, having not raced since July 13 at Caulfield when at the end of a long prep and he had enough when down the track behind Travimyfriend. He has a good fresh record and his two recent jumpouts at Bendigo, albeit against so so opposition, have been excellent. Keen on him running a positive race.

6 Akkadian (Bet Now: $3.60) has to be respected here. Thought he just got too far out of his ground at Hamilton last time, just getting way too far back in the run and spotting the leader/winner Big Reel an impossible start, but finished off with real purpose to run second. Senior jock on from a good gate in a race where they won’t go as hard, he appeals for sure.

3 Haski (Bet Now: $6.00) has home ground advantage for Brent Stanley. Ridden on speed and tired fresh at Benalla behind Bravo Tango before going to Seymour when ridden cold and he found the line strongly after being held up when third to Tahitian Dancer. He’ll likely be ridden cold again from the gate and will need luck, but certainly has the talent to beat these.

Interesting to see how 9 Screenager (Bet Now: $2.70) goes for James Cummings. This girl debuted over 1100m at Kyneton when just off the pace before Lane eased her wider on the turn where she took a little while to get into her work but her last 50m was very good when getting up and winning. Bit of depth to this 64 but looks talented and I think she can measure up.

3 That Song is a Your Song (Bet Now: $4.50) gelding first up for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This four year old has showed city class potential throughout his career but when he shows that, the next start he looks like a camel, so hard to really line him up, but he gets gate one, usually sprints well fresh and his Tatura trial was more than encouraging to the eye. Hard to beat at his best.

2 Olivander (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Charge Forward for the Ellerton/Zahra stable that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since May 18 over 1400m at Flemington when down the track behind Big Night Out, who at the time was a very progressive galloper. Recent jumpout was encouraging and like that he resumes at 1100m instead of 1000m. Think he’ll run well here.

1 Angel Of Truth (Bet Now: $6.50) for me. This is the weakest race he has contested this season and has the right racing pattern to go close. He comes through the Caulfield Cup where Yendall got him into a fab spot just off the speed but from the 600m onwards, it ended up being an ugly watch and his race was over when losing value ground and momentum. Has class, lands near the speed, hard to beat.

7 Sully (Bet Now: $6.50) is going well for the Busuttin/Young team but he can’t quite crack it for a win. He comes through the Herbert Power where it was a stop/start tempo and when the sprint went on late, he couldn’t go with them but stuck to the task well to run third to The Chosen One. Looks to find a winnable race here and did run well here the start prior.

Firmer footing should help 8 Bondeiger (Bet Now: $34.00). He ran in the Moe Cup last time out and not much went his way in the run. He looked to have something to offer on the turn but he couldn’t really get clear when Ethan Brown wanted it and he couldn’t dash quick enough on the bog track. Back on a firmer deck and back in a suitable assignment up in trip, he’ll take some beating.

1 Marcel From Madrid (Bet Now: $2.20) on top. Paul Preusker trains this gelding, who defied a betting drift to win first up at Ballarat before going to the Durbridge at Morphettville where it was a fair dinkum horror watch if you were on. Vorster rode for luck and got absolutely none of it in the straight when seemingly full of running. Better luck here and he should go very close.

Been a while between drinks for 4 Satori (Bet Now: $3.60) but gee he finds a winnable race if he found his best form. Attempted to lead all the way over 1400m at Cranbourne last time and gave a good kick under Olly but just found East Indiaman too good, just. Olly remains, should land on speed without doing too much work and now he’s found positive form, he can go on with it.

2 Artie Dee Two (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Mitch Freedman trained gelding who is in okay fgorm after racing on a very testing track at Moe last time out where he was back near last in the run before cutting the corner in the quicksand to save ground but he couldn’t lift his feet late to run sixth. Track will be much firmer this time around and prove hard to hold out late.

4 Write Your Name (Bet Now: $4.80) has class/quality on his side and I’ll bank on that getting him home fresh. Archie Alexander trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced since July 24 on a bog track at Sandown when struggling to pick his feet up behind a then progressive galloper in Rainbow Thief. Can sprint well fresh and really liked the way he trialled a couple of weeks back at Cranbourne.

2 Heavenly Emperor (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Stephen Brown trained four year old that resumes. This bloke showed pretty good promise as a three year old towards the end of last season, where he won at Flemington in such impressive fashion before placing in the Silver Bowl Final behind Buffalo River. Recent trials/jumpouts have been good and he does have class and quality.

10 Kamien (Bet Now: $9.50) looks a nice horse for the Gelagotis team. Won a couple on the bounce before going to Morphettville where he was a little unlucky and could make a small case that he should have beaten More Than Exceed, but that horse is flying, was on speed and too good. Bit of depth to this race, but this guy is hard fit, in form and should be strong late.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 8 Manhattan Spector

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 1 Angel Of Truth
