3/5/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, SA Derby day

1 Beach Pad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. He put together a couple of wins on the bounce before contesting the Onkaparinga Cup when outclassed on paper but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Sir Kingsford. That form clearly reads well for this.

5 Holmes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Andrew Clarken since racing over 1500m here when back in a slowly run race and couldn’t quite get involved behind Sparkup. The rise in trip I do like for him and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.

3 Manzala (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver here for Clarken/O’Shea after racing in the Onkaparinga Cup two weeks back at Oakbank where he did early work in the run and that told on him in the straight when down the track behind Sir Kingsford. Back to this level, he’s in the mix.

5 Albertville (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have a bit on these. He is 2/2 this time in, winning well fresh at Kyneton before producing good change up speed to win at Mornington, giving them a start and a beating. He’s clearly the one to beat.

11 Solar Blast (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat for Team Jolly after resuming over this trip two weeks ago at Oakbank. He got back to near last in the run but you had to like the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Beauty Bound. If he can settle closer, get a drag into the race, he’ll take holding out.

7 The Magistrate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a threat if allowed to roll. They tried to restrain him last start at Oakbank but he got keen in the run and it took away his finale when down the track behind Beauty Bound. Good track/distance record and if allowed to run, he’s dangerous.

3 Savagery Vibe (Bet Now:  $SP.00) I am keen on. She resumed at Pakenham where she looked a good thing on paper and despite a few nervous moments in the run, class came to the fore and she was too good. Like that she has been given a mini let up and she strikes a very winnable race.

2 Lovely Lookin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented mare that resumes for Andrew Gluyas. She is first up, having not raced since the Gytrash Final in the Spring when far from disgraced in defeat behind Sir Sway, who has since won at Stakes grade, so the form reads super and has trialled like a rocket.

10 Mazovia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned really well for the Clarken/O’Shea camp. She ran at Oakbank two weeks ago where she got back to near last in the run but she tracked up and worked home strongly late in the piece behind Beauty Bound. If she gets a drag into the race, she’ll launch late.

4 Jilladora (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Justin Pickering and commands respect. She won at Oakbank two weeks ago, getting the beaut sit in transit before angling clear and she knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Hard to knock the way she’s racing.

1 Chipson (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He was a strong winner fresh at Mount Gambier before having a month off and racing at Oakbank two weeks ago when off speed and found the line with real purpose late behind Rubamos. Hard fit and up to the mile, he rates highly.

6 Bangerang Redback (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be suited up to 1600m after racing over 1400m at Balaklava where he got back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was good in defeat. Up in trip suits, should settle closer and be effective late.

1 Fine Future (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran third in the Rubamos race from two weeks back at Oakbank. He was the eye catcher from the back, getting a fair way out of his ground but was good late in the piece. He’ll be spotting them a start but should be strong at the end and can certainly win.

7 Collated (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes to town for Matty Seyers after a win over the mile at Penola where he got the beaut run in transit in behind before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. The extra 200m should be fine and off a win, rates highly.

6 Navy Gold (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a slight query at 1800m but the stable is flying and he strikes a winnable race. He ran over the mile at Balaklava last start where he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to The Golden Fist. If the trip is fine, he can win.

1 Silent Surrente (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the class of the field, by some distance, and I’ll bank on that class getting her home. She is several weeks between runs since contesting the Roy Higgins at Flemington when back in the field and couldn’t get involved behind Deakin. Back to this level, back home, she takes beating.

3 Sir Kingsford (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying and despite being a query at 2500m, I think he has to be respected the way he’s racing given he won the Onkaparinga Cup a fortnight back, leading throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but found under pressure to fend them off and score. He’ll give a bold sight.

7 Dual Fuel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Onkaparinga Cup from two weeks back at Oakbank. She got a fair way out of her ground and I think she just didn’t handle the tight track so forgive and forget the run behind Sir Kingsford. Better suited on the bigger track here and prior efforts were strong.

8 Sneaky Sunrise (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. She ran in the Mornington Guineas two weeks ago where she was wide no cover for the trip but the early burn just told on her late behind Movin Out. Convinced she is racing well and with a better run in transit this time around, she can threaten.

1 Somewhere (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse, I am convinced of that. Just looked a bit ring rusty when resuming in the Bendigo Guineas but he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Wonder Boy. Fitter and up to the mile, good upside, he is a key chance.

2 Garnacho (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a fascinating runner but is the most progressive. He ran in the Bendigo Guineas where he was near the speed and he tried hard. Just found them a bit sharp but he stayed on and was quite good in defeat. Was down to run over 2000m last week but comes back to the mile for the next race. That said, appears well suited.

Pretty keen on 2 Statuario (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He comes here off the back of a win in the Galilee Final at Caulfield where he looked a moral on paper and duly saluted, winning quite impressively. He’ll have no issue with the 2500m, he has the right form around him and the depth here, as a whole, is thin.

4 American Wolf (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. He got a peach ride from John Allen to win the VRC St Leger at Flemington on Anzac Day. Trip is no issue, has that sense of timing and gets M Zahra on. In the mix for sure as a danger.

5 Saint Emillion (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks on track for this after his effort in the Chairmans on Saturday. He was keen in the run and lacked any real change up speed but he kept on and was good in defeat I thought behind Athanatos. He was a few weeks between runs there and getting to 2500m now, I say he appeals.

13 Eroica (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Peter Hardacre and appeals here after a placing over 1100m three weeks ago behind Zanthron, driving hard late from off the speed but just failed to get there. Up to 1200m I like and she strikes a winnable race.

7 Beauty Bound (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat for Phillip Stokes. She resumed at Oakbank where she got into a decent spot just off the speed before angling clear and finished best to score. She paraded with improvement to come so fitter and up in trip, she appeals.

16 Declared (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1100m here where he got back to near last in the run and in a race dominated on speed, he was never a factor but kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Zanthron. Hard to beat if he can settle closer.

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 5 Albertville

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 4 Jilladora
