3/2/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

Sandown Hillside will play host to an eight race card on Wednesday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Tricky juvenile race to kick off the meeting. I’m siding with race day form, and on top is 8 Micro (Bet Now: $5.00) for James Cummings. Has had two career outings, the latest coming down the straight at Flemington when a closing fourth to Abseiler in a good effort. That was 1100m back to 1000m so now up in trip, think he’s the way to go.

7 Lightsaber (Bet Now: $3.60) is a son of Zoustar for Peter Moody that was well specked at a price when debuting at Geelong and the plunge almost came off, working home strongly late to finish second to Pegasi, who led throughout and controlled things to suit himself. Better suited here and is hard to beat.

9 Tatsuro (Bet Now: $13.00) can be an improver here at odds. Busuttin/Young camp trains this colt, who resumed in the Artorius race at Sandown. He was wide no cover for the trip yet battled away pretty well in defeat, albeit well held on the line. Draws much better and fitter, he can be dangerous.

6 Miss Five Hundred (Bet Now: $3.10) looks a relatively safe option. Peter Gelagotis trained mare that is a few weeks between runs since bolting up at this trip at Cranbourne under the lights, aided by a confident steer from Jye McNeil, who rode her like she was the best horse in the race and duly saluted. Hard to get away from her.

1 Budd Fox (Bet Now: $8.50) wins looks hard to beat here. Ran over 3000m at the Valley last time out and worked to the line pretty well when fourth to Beachgoer. Was down to run on Saturday but instead remains at 3000m here, hard fit and gets in well after the claim. Leading contender.

9 Cheners (Bet Now: $23.00) is getting the miles in the legs for the jumps season, so doubt he wins, but can include in a first four. Survival of the fittest when racing over 2800m at Kyneton on Australia Day and he indeed was the fittest on the day, drawing clear to win well. Only has 51kg on his back and can sneak a first four spot.

I’m with 2 Setanta (Bet Now: $7.00) for the Maher/Eustace camp. This colt resumed with a strong maiden win at Warrnambool over 1400m before remaining at the trip when racing on the Lakeside course here and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Good And Proper. 1600m looks ideal and gets run of the race from the draw.

7 Safeeya (Bet Now: $4.60) is racing well. Price/Kent trained filly that should have won last time out at the Valley instead of a narrow second to Yukon. Walker probed for a split instead of waiting and peeling three wide behind the front pair and in the end, that cost her the win. She’s nearing a win and gets a great chance here.

6 Parure (Bet Now: $10.00) is bred to be a good one and she is starting to live up to the promise. Ran solid time in winning her maiden two back at Wangaratta before going to Sandown where she chased strongly from off the pace but had to settle for a close up second to Thunder Peak. 1600m should be find and is a leading contender.

4 Quesadilla (Bet Now: $3.20) on top. Was formerly with Tom Hughes but now finds herself with Michael Moroney. Has solid enough form around her, with her last start at the Valley resulting in a second to an in form Miss Albania. Like her with fresh legs and from the inside gate, will get every chance.

5 Supreme Idea (Bet Now: $5.00) is the class runner of the field. Quality filly for the Freedman camp that resumes, having not raced since the Scarborough at the Valley when far from disgraced behind Swats That, and prior to that finished behind September Run, so the form is A1 and her recent Mornington jumpout was very good. Market will be the guide.

6 Aquagirl (Bet Now: $8.00) deserves another chance. Phillip Stokes trained filly that did place in the Quezette during the Spring, so she has the ability. Met with good support when resuming down the straight at Flemington and failed to fire a shot behind Japery. She’s better than that and can bounce back here.

Tricky race to start the Quaddie but going with 10 Derive (Bet Now: $4.80), resuming for the in form Ellerton/Zahra camp. Hasn’t raced since Bendigo Cup Day when she was resuming over 1300m and worked home okay late in the piece behind subsequent Stakes winner Hindaam. Looked sharp in a recent Flemington jumpout win, and from the wide gate, hope Jamie Kah is positive.

7 Safe Passage (Bet Now: $3.10) is the interesting runner. Danny O’Brien trained filly that looked to find a very winnable race when resuming at Pakenham under the lights. She jumped well and once Lane found the front, got control, it was race over and in a sit/sprint, she was too good. Think she finds the front again and is hard to beat.

8 Unstoppabelle (Bet Now: $7.50) hasn’t done a great deal since this time last year when she was running well in the Blue Diamond races. Two runs back from a spell have been fair, but she wasn’t too bad last time out from the back. If she’s within range on the turn, she’s good enough to take this out.

Leaning towards 16 Future Force (Bet Now: $3.70) for Team Snowden. This filly resumed in a tidy 64 at Geelong against five rivals. The race became a real sit/sprint and she tried hard, finishing a close up second to River Twain where they ran sub 33 for the last 600m. Maps to get a perfect run just off the speed and proving hard to hold out.

2 Real Gun (Bet Now: $3.70) is racing like 1300m will suit. Talented four year old that was backed with real confident last time out under the lights at the Valley where he chased strongly from off the pace but couldn’t quite get there when second to an in form Sham I Am. Johnny Allen takes over and is racing like the extra 100m will be ideal.

8 Commodus (Bet Now: $15.00) has the talent to measure up to these. Is first up this four year old, having not raced since July 4 at Flemington in the Silver Bowl Final when down the track behind Walking Flying. Best efforts have come when early on in a prep and his two jumpouts indicate he’s ready to go.

Keen on 3 Blue Ocean (Bet Now: $12.00) running well second up. Phillip Stokes trained four year old that resumed over 1400m at Pakenham where he went around like it was pretty much a barrier trial. Back to last, peeled widest and took forever to get going but worked to the line strongly late, producing the second best last 200m of the race. If he can improve off that and sit closer in the run, he’ll take a power of beating with class on his side.

Fitter and up to the mile looks a good recipe for the Matt Cumani trained 5 Flandersrain (Bet Now: $2.40). Resumed over 1400m at Caulfield at the midweeks and worked home pretty well late in the piece when third to Nordic. Her 1600m form reads very well, including a couple of efforts behind Paradee.

Not sure 7 He Is (Bet Now: $27.00) wins, but he can sneak a first four spot. Kav trains this gelding, who caught the eye fresh before going to Benalla, where he looked a good thing on paper and was ridden accordingly by Robbo, winning nicely. Harder here, but I think is one that run top four at odds.

Tricky race to close out the meeting. Good test here for 12 Judestar (Bet Now: $5.00) but Wendy Kelly seems to have this mare absolutely flying at the moment. Loved the way she attacked the line to win fresh in a maiden at Yarre Valley before going to Pakenham where she took a little while to wind into her work but once she did, she put them away and was impressive. Confident she can measure up to this lot.

7 Galactus (Bet Now: $3.40) just has to hold his form to go close to winning. Has been wide no cover his past two but has been too good for his rivals in winning, his latest win being a Saturday race over 1300m here when beating home hype horse Irish Butterfly. Holds his form, he’s the one to beat.

4 Sunday Pray (Bet Now: $7.50) will put himself on speed and give his all. He did that last time out over 1500m here and ran his usual honest race when a close up fifth to the very much in form King Magnus. Has a good record here and if he can lead without spending too many petrol tickets, he’ll take some running down.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 3 Blue Ocean

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 6 Miss Five Hundred

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 12 Judestar
