3/11/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

Eight races will be run and won at Morphettville this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out twelve metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.

3 Star Status (Bet Now: $3.90) looks a decent enough type for the Macdonald/Gluyas team and I’m confident he can measure up. Ran in a 1600m maiden on Murray Bridge Cup Day where he was absolutely crunched in betting and the punters got it spot on as he romped in under a lovely steer from the in form Raquel Clark. Significant rise in depth, but I think he can handle it.

1 Ocean Essence (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Darren Weir trained three year old who is on the quick back up after taking on the older horses last Wednesday at Geelong where he had to do work in the run and I thought he did a pretty good job in defeat behind Our Sea Goddess. I think up to this trip will suit, he’s hard fit and in form.

2 Quaffany (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Tony McEvoy trained gelding who was five weeks between runs when racing in a maiden on Murray Bridge Cup Day over 1400m where punters thought he was more of a good thing than Winx but certainly didn’t win like that, working hard and only just getting there. He should improve off that…does he want further than this?

Have to side with 3 Triguboff (Bet Now: $5.00). Darren Weir trains this three year old, who ran in a maiden on Horsham Cup Day and despite doing a bit wrong late, he drew clear and won like a pretty decent horse. That was 1100m, so the extra 100m looks no issue for this son of Sebring and happy to be in his corner.

4 Gotta Be Gold (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained three year old who was really well supported when resuming in a maiden over 1050m here two weeks and despite a few hairy moments, Raquel Clark shoved into the clear and finished too good for an impressive win. 1200m looks ideal and gets the suck run again from the draw.

2 Ice Ghost (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Bradbury’s Luck gelding for Gordon Richards who was a sharp first up winner over 1250m on the Parks track before contesting the Schilldora race where he kept chasing and was far from disgraced when running fourth, beaten just under two lengths. Third up, he should be hard fit, ready to go.

3 Bling Dynasty (Bet Now: $4.40) looks to be racing well for Paul Preusker. This bloke ran second to Kellstorm over 2600m here two weeks ago and seemingly had his chance but battled away quite well in defeat, beating the rest off comfortably. I reckon back in trip will suit him and stable do have a good record in Adelaide.

4 Sasko (Bet Now: $2.00) is a Tony McEvoy trained stayer who was unwanted in betting when resuming over 2000m at Caulfield on Blue Sapphire Day and he was really just outclassed when down the track behind Lucky For All. Significant drop in depth and he should get a very good time of it in front. Just depends how fit he is.

2 Cougar Express (Bet Now: $19.00) could be a sleeper at odds. He had a break between runs prior to racing in the Hamilton Cup last time where he just did far too much work on speed and rightfully folded up in the straight behind Master Zephyr. His best form is over the jumps, but on his day he’s certainly capable on the flat.

Provided we get 8/9 starters, I think 9 Cool Maverick (Bet Now: $8.50) is a really good each way gamble. Ryan Balfour has this ten year old in near career best form at the moment. Ran over 1300m on the Parks track four weeks back and found plenty late when challenged under Sakai to win. Should lead these for fun, and with only 52kg on his back, I think he’ll give a stack of cheek.

8 Oberland (Bet Now: $2.70) is going really well for Darren Weir and I think the rise to 1400m will suit. He ran over 1200m last time out at Morphettville where he got a mile back on an on pace track so he did an excellent job to get as close as he did when fourth to Miss Jane, clocking the best late splits. Racing as if a strong 1200m will suit.

7 Machinegun Jubs (Bet Now: $6.00) would eat this field up if she brought her best. Formerly with Angela Davies but is now with John Macmillan. Had her first run for the new stable here three weeks back and was closing off well against the bias behind Pale Ale. Jamie Kah on, fitter and looms as a definite threat.

She’s so reliable is 7 Star Patriot (Bet Now: $7.00) that I think she’s a really good each way gamble provided we get an each way price. Hasn’t raced for over a month since racing over 2000m here where she was given every chance I thought by Kayla Crowther but I reckon 2000m just sees her out when a well held second behind Wasabi Bob. Back to the mile, with weight relief, think she can only run well.

3 Modulate (Bet Now: $3.10) is just so reliable for David Jolly that he has to go in the numbers. Ran in the Murray Bridge Cup last time where Gatty seemed to give the son of Ambidexter every chance but Von Costa Glass just proved too good on the line. Gate one on a dry Morphettville track looks as if it’ll be an ideal spot to be.

Huge watch on 8 Savatag (Bet Now: $13.00), who resumes for Will Clarken. Probably wins this if he is at his best but it’s just an unknown as to how he’s going. He’s trialled really well on a couple of occasions but they were back in August. I think the market will tell you how forward he is. If the support is there, jump on.

5 Box On Collins (Bet Now: $2.80) for me. Tony McEvoy trains this four year old, who resumed over this track/distance three weeks ago and did a great job off a moderate tempo when beaten a lip by Ruomaza, who had the suck run on the rail and got the split, saving all the ground while Box On Collins was out wide. That looks the right form. Just hope the tempo is genuine.

11 Gheedaa (Bet Now: $3.70) is a daughter of Hinchinbrook for the Hayes/Dabernig team who scored two wins to start the prep in good style before going to Caulfield where she worked home well late behind Syd’s Coin. That was her first crack at the mile so she should be better off for that and this is a drop in depth.

A genuine tempo should suit the Sue Jaensch trained 1 Any Given Glass (Bet Now: $31.00). Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago where the tempo was a crawl and given he was last in the run he had no hope of running on. Pace should be more evident here and on his best form, he can run a cheeky race at odds.

Hard to get away from 7 Columbia (Bet Now: $4.20). Was red hot on him when he ran over the 1200m here a fortnight ago and despite a market drift late, a sweet steer from Pannell got the Denman gelding home in impressive fashion, albeit in an easier race than this. But that was his first run in a month so he should have room to improve.

The rise in trip will suit the Peter Blanch trained 1 Zalmona (Bet Now: $6.00). He was five weeks between runs when racing over 1050m here two weeks ago where he overcame the bias and worked home really strongly to nab Miss Labelle. I think 1200m would be better for him but a fast run 1100m is certainly no disadvantage.

9 Street Life (Bet Now: $11.00) looks to be ticking over nicely for Karen Byrnes. Ran over 900m on Murray Bridge Cup Day and was a real eye catcher late when warming to the task behind the heavily supported Domination. The extra 200m, bigger track and hot tempo will suit and he is a second up winner. Likeable at good odds.

If they go silly in front, 2 Lockdown Jack (Bet Now: $5.00) could well be the blouser with the right breaks. He’ll get back and rely on luck but he’s certainly got the finale to beat these. Had his first run for Sue Jaensch on Horsham Cup Day and was very good late behind the city performed Sister Kitty Mac. Just needs luck from gate one to look a winning threat.

4 Laure Me In (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Ad Valorem resuming for Tony McEvoy. It’s hard to know what version we’ll get of this horse. At his best, he’ll win, but he has another version which is a bludger and that was evident last time. Spelled, no trials, draws wide…few negatives but has shown the talent to beat these.

12 Exalted Dee (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Grant Young mare who has earned a crack at this kind of race. She ran on Murray Bridge Cup Day and after getting well back early on, she came with a lovely finale under Gatty to get the win. Yet to run well in town, but seems a more in form mare now so she could be a knockout chance at odds.

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 9 Cool Maverick
