A bumper ten race card has been assembled for Doomben this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:12) Padua College Handicap 2020m

Back Me

I think 6 Estikhraaj (Bet Now: $6.50) can get the job done here. Chris Waller trains this stayer, who hasn’t won this prep but gee he’s racing well and deserves a win. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight ago where he settled off the pace and tried really hard but the in form and heavily backed Galtero proved too good. Think he can go one better now.

Danger

1 Morendi (Bet Now: $7.50) is the class of the field and that will carry him a long way. He resumed several weeks back at the Sunny Coast and made up good ground I thought over an unsuitable trip behind Zumbelina. Up to the 2000m immediately is the little niggle, with the break between runs also, but he does have class.

Long Shot

4 My Giuliano (Bet Now: $11.00) is a hit and miss stayer for Chris Waller but when he’s right and on song, he can certainly beat these. Lovely ride saw him win two back over 2000m here before racing here last time and running below par behind the in form Prioritise. If we get a more genuine tempo, he can bounce back for sure.

Race 2. (12:50) Orthochick Handicap (85) 1350m

Back Me

If she produces anything similar to the first up win, 4 Femme Fireball (Bet Now: $1.75) should be winning. I think Rob Heathcoate had her stamped as a blacktype horse but she didn’t quite measure up during the Carnival. Started again this prep at 70 level and was most impressive in getting the job done. Gradually steps up in grade/distance, but the trip should be no issue and she’s a seconds up winner.

Danger

2 Trois Choix (Bet Now: $10.00) is a David Vandyke trained mare who is in ripping form at the moment. She’s won her past two and has been quite impressive each time, the latest over the Sunny Coast mile where she was back in a slowly run affair, and was off the bit before the turn, but she built the revs and proved too good. Harder here, but she’s a mare in form with upside.

Long Shot

I’m wary of 7 Intrinsic (Bet Now: $9.00) for Kris Lees. Ran over this track/distance two weeks back in a 0MW race and despite having not many friends in the market, she proved too good late under a lovely steer from Michael Cahill. Now she has that winning feeling, she can go right on with it and certainly has the talent/class.

Race 3. (13:30) Lite 'N' Easy Handicap 1050m

Back Me

If seeing is believing, 4 Icelander (Bet Now: $2.90) will bolt in. Chris Waller trains this son of Sizzling, who trialled on Tuesday at the Gold Coast and the trial was as good as you’ll see. He trucked up behind the speed before peeling off the leaders backs and under no riding, he cantered to the lead and won very impressively. If he runs up to that, he’ll be winning.

Danger

5 Kaoru King (Bet Now: $4.40) is a son of Mahisara on debut for Darryl Hansen and we know this bloke is very good at producing a decent youngster. No public trials to go on, but based on breeding he should be a handy type, he draws well and has opened hard in the market, so somebody might well know something positive.

Long Shot

9 Magic Beans (Bet Now: $7.00) was unwanted in betting when running over the 1110m here a fortnight but despite having no friends in the market, I thought he ran really well in defeat when fourth to The Odyssey. He’s got the hard race fitness under the belt and that experience is vital in these early two year old races.

Race 4. (14:12) Lions Pride Building Handicap 1050m

Back Me

5 Gala Miss (Bet Now: $3.10) is a More Than Ready filly having her first start for Kelly Schweida. No public trials to go off, but on breeding she looks as if she’ll come to hand early and the stable have been pretty good so far this season with their youngsters. Jimmy Orman steers and gate one is a big tick for a first starter.

Danger

1 Button Pusher (Bet Now: $3.40) has the hard race experience on her side and it’s winning race experience. Ran over 900m at the Gold Coast and absolutely bolted in under Carly Frater-Hill, who retains the ride. All bar one of the unraced have trialled, so a great guide there…but this girl has raced and has looked decent enough.

Long Shot

13 Rijker (Bet Now: $9.50) ran fourth to Button Pusher in that 900m race on debut and she was okay without setting the world on fire. Trialled since on Tuesday and that well enough to the eye, though the time was nothing flash. Doubt she could win, but haven’t seen the first starters, so can’t get a guide there.

Race 5. (14:55) Mt Alverina College Plate (Class 3) 2020m

Back Me

10 Nashsville Skyline (Bet Now: $8.50) is racing as if the ten furlongs will be up her alley. Comes through the Bryneich race over the mile here on October 20 and I thought her effort from the back was very good when a closing fourth. On breeding, the trip is the query but she’s racing as if it will be fine. Happy to be with her in a tricky race.

Danger

I think up to 2000m will suit the Chris Waller trained 3 Korodon (Bet Now: $10.00). Tough on speed win two back over 1800m at the Gold Coast before stepping back to the mile here where he was solid enough in defeat behind Bryneich. Think stepping back up in trip is the go for this horse and it’s certainly a winnable race.

Long Shot

15 She’s Reliable (Bet Now: $9.00) is a daughter of Reliable Man for the Kelly Schweida stable who looks to be going well this time in. Ran over 1400m at the Gold Coast two weeks ago and closed off quite nicely from the back when a close up fourth to Smart As Attack. Quickly up to 2020m is the query but on breeding, she’ll eat up the trip.

Race 6. (15:39) Hillross Montefiore & Co Handicap 1050m

Back Me

5 Volkhoff (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying for the Guy team and I think she can bounce back into the winners list. Sprouted wings to win at this track/distance two back before going to the Sunny Coast where I thought she was game in defeat on a bog track behind Hard Stride. Much better suited on firmer footing, she’ll get back and launch off a hot speed.

Danger

Great to see 1 Amanaat (Bet Now: $2.50) back at the races. Ben Currie trains this quality animal, who hasn’t raced since July 21 when winning impressively over 1200m here. Resuming at 1050m tells me that maybe he might need the run, but he’s well in after the claim and has class/quality on these.

Long Shot

4 Hi I’m Back (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Tony Gollan trained gelding who comes through the Volkhoff race from the Sunny Coast a few weeks ago. He was run off his legs to the eye and couldn’t really get balanced but stuck on quite well in defeat. Can run well second up and a firm track is no concern for this son of Sequalo.

Race 7. (16:24) The Aitkenvale Family Health Centre Handicap 1350m

Back Me

I want to give 1 Plumaro (Bet Now: $5.50) another chance. Somewhat unwanted in betting when resuming over 1200m here two weeks ago and she just got a mile out of her ground, but finished off well enough to my eye behind Light Up The Room. Up to 1350m is a big tick and she should have enormous upside.

Danger

10 Champagne Daisy (Bet Now: $2.50) is the x factor. David Vandyke trains this filly, who comes off a last start maiden win over 1300m at the Sunshine Coast but it was the manner in which she did it that was impressive. That was her first run in a month, so she has room to improve. Just want to see her do it in town before diving in.

Long Shot

Have to give respect to the Mark Webb trained 6 Clockwise (Bet Now: $18.00), who was one of the better youngsters Queensland produced last season, racing quite well on a consistent basis by the time she got to the Oxlade behind Granny Red Shoes, she was a tired horse. Good fresh record and against this lot, she does appeal.

Race 8. (17:09) Weareco Handicap (70) 1110m

Back Me

14 Bright Idea (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Tony Gollan trained mare who trialled up well prior to racing at the Ipswich midweeks where she led all the way and landed some decent bets in the process, though was getting the staggers late. Like her at the 1110m here and that was her first run in five weeks, so there should be upside.

Danger

2 Ahwahneechee (Bet Now: $3.40) is a very progressive son of Zupaone who is putting together a tidy record. Ran over 1000m at Ipswich last Wednesday where he overcame trouble in the run and under Lloyd he proved too good. If this was 1000m, he’d be on top. Just a slight query at a strong 1110m at this level, but has the gate and Lloyd remains on.

Long Shot

10 Adoradancer (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Barry Lockwood trained mare resuming. This girl hasn’t raced since running over 1100m at Ipswich where she was back on the rail in a small field and couldn’t quite build the revs like she can. Has trialled up really well on a couple of occasions, the latest being last week. Looks ready to go.

Race 9. (17:52) Bac Friends Of Sam Plate (Class 6) 1615m

Back Me

14 Tempete Rouge (Bet Now: $7.50) was down to run in an easier race but instead runs here and I think she could be dangerous. She beat camels last time at Coffs Harbour, but it was the manner in which she did it that was impressive. Sustained speed from the front and ran a record time despite the track being rated heavy. 51kg on her back, she’ll roll along and give a sight.

Danger

7 Madam Shazam (Bet Now: $2.50) is an absolute beauty for Toby Edmonds and seriously has to be respected. She’s won four on end, her latest win resulting in a dominant win at this track/distance on September 15 when putting them away. The break between runs is the niggle but hard to knock a mare that wins.

Long Shot

1 El Campeador (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Tony Gollan trained galloper who should find this a bit easier than what he has faced recently, racing alongside and just behind the likes of Zofonic Dancer and Prioritise. Ran over 2000m here last time and for mine just didn’t run the trip out behind Galtero. Should do no work from the draw and is a live threat.

Race 10. (18:30) Mitavite Handicap (85) 1350m

Back Me

14 Savwell (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Savabeel gelding resuming for David Vandyke. I think he could easily measure up to Stakes company so it’ll be very interesting to see how he resumes. Really came of age last time in, winning four races and stamping himself as a proper city horse. Two decent trials leading in tells me he’s ready to go first up.

Danger

9 Freddie Fox Trot (Bet Now: $3.30) will really like the step up to 1350m. He was 1200-1050 a fortnight back here and just found them too sharp but warmed to the task late behind the nippy customer I’ve Gotta Nel. Should get run of the race stuff from the good draw and certainly appeals as a leading contender.

Long Shot

11 Tawfiq Boy (Bet Now: $8.00) a threat for me. Put together a couple of sharp wins on the bounce before racing at Doomben a few weeks ago where the bias was against him but he still ran well behind Fiery Heights. I think the freshen up will do him the world of good and this does look a very winnable race for this bloke.
