Morphettville Parks is where SA racing takes place this Saturday with a couple of blacktype races across the eight race program. Keep in mind that races one and eight will be run on the course proper. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. On the course proper the rail is out out ten metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out five metres from the Winning Post-2000m; Out two metres from the 2000m-1800m; Out five metres from the 1800m-1200m.

Race One (12:53) : Southaustralia.com Breeders Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: 7 Time Awaits (Bet Now: $4.20) is a classy filly for the Tony McEvoy yard who comes here off a little freshen up. Hasn’t raced since mid March when racing down the Flemington straight and sticking on well when fourth to Shoals, who of course went on to win the Percy Sykes during the Championships. That looks the right form for this despite the break between runs.
Big Danger: 9 Artstrum (Bet Now: $8.00) had been bursting to breakthrough for a win and she did it in style last time out at Sandown, aided by a lovely on speed steer from Lane, who controlled things from the front and gave nothing else a look in. Not sure how strong her form is, but you always have to respect Weir when he sends runners over.
Long Shot: 10 My Bad (Bet Now: $13.00) was kept pretty solid in the market when debuting on Easter Monday at Oakbank and despite the fact she didn’t appear to take on an overly strong field, you had to love the way she let down and put her rivals away over the final 75m on a shifty track with very tight turns. Looks promising and I think she can measure up here.
Race Two (13:28) : Max Basheer 90th Birthday Handicap (70) 1400m:
Back Me: 2 Municipality (Bet Now: $4.60) was kept very safe in the market when resuming during the Oakbank and the safe play from the punters got the win as he sprouted wings late out wide to claim victory in the last couple of strides. Ran a beauty at this track/distance second up last time in but looks a better horse now.
Big Danger: 12 Baker’s Dozen (Bet Now: $4.60) was a short priced elect in that race mentioned above won by Municipality and on face value, she was disappointing because her form prior was very good, but I think she may not have handled the tight turns Oakbank has to offer. She’s much better than that and does meet that horse 1kg better off.
Long Shot: 1 Magic Boy (Bet Now: $14.00) steps up to the 1400m here after resuming over 1250m on the Parks track where he looked in need of the run and the tempo was clearly against him when finishing behind Chamois Road, who has run well since at Oakbank. This is a significant drop in grade/depth and his form from the Spring reads well for this.
Race Three (14:03) : Schweppes Oaks May 6 Handicap 2400m:
Back Me: 4 Time To Test (Bet Now: $2.10) looks one of the hardest to beat here. Didn’t do a great deal first up before stepping up to the 1950m here where he appreciated a fast tempo in front of him before presenting on the turn and dashing right away for a spank job of his rivals. 2400m is the obvious query, but on that last start effort, and given he is only third up here, I’ll take the gamble.
Big Danger: 2 Goldstream (Bet Now: $5.00) finds his easiest race since coming from Italy but whether he is in the right frame of mind is the query. Ran in the Easter Cup last time out at Caulfield and it was just a run to my eye, nothing fancy. But this is a big drop in grade. If he brings his best, be blows them away.
Long Shot: 7 Spanish Halo (Bet Now: $51.00) came with a brilliant finishing burst to win three back here but in two subsequent efforts, the horse has just been fair. The last start was in the Oakbank Cup where the shifty track and tight turns perhaps didn’t suit his 10YO legs. Much better suited here and up to 2400m suits.
Race Four (14:43) : Darley Goodwood May 20 Handicap (82) 1000m:
Back Me: Siding with 9 Entrancing (Bet Now: $3.40) but only just. Good mare for the Stokes yard who ran some ripping races during the Spring, including a couple of sharp efforts in Victoria. Looked outstanding in a recent trial win here, she flies fresh and 1000m first up is a good launching pad for her prep.
Big Danger: 2 Strategtic Demand (Bet Now: $4.20) was one of the real finds of the SA Spring, winning four on the bounce and each time he was so impressive, showing an electric turn of foot despite having big weights or getting held up. Resumes here off the back of no trials, but I think he has the class/quality to overcome that.
Long Shot: 12 Calianco (Bet Now: $15.00) will appreciate the big drop in depth after contesting a couple of Stakes races at her past two starts, the latest coming last Saturday in the Irwin where she was only four lengths off Viddora. How well does that read for a race like this. She is the knockout chance at odds.
Race Five (15:23) : UBET SA Derby Day May 13 Handicap (82) 1300m:
Back Me: 9 Brown Ben (Bet Now: $8.00) was one of the real finds of the during the Spring here before running a game fourth at Flemington behind Ozi Choice. Resumed over 1200m on the course proper three weeks back and worked home well late in the piece behind the in form Counter Pulse. Hasn’t fired in two previous second up attempts, but he is a different horse now.
Big Danger: 12 This Kid Rocks (Bet Now: $8.00) is a gelding who just doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Strung together three on the bounce before going to Sandown where he looked the winner but was nabbed late by Unbreakable, who ran a beauty last weekend at Caulfield, so the form reads well and he maps beautifully here.
Long Shot: Had 10 Counter Spin (Bet Now: $16.00)drawn a better gate, he’d nearly be on top. He was enormous first up in the Oakbank Stakes. Outclassed and poorly weighted but still finished off with purpose to be within three lengths of Riziz. Really good second up record and does save his best for the Parks track. Just needs luck from the gate.
Race Six (16:03) : Holdfast Insurance City Of Adelaide Handicap 1400m:
Back Me: 10 Evangelist (Bet Now: $11.00)ran third to Royal Rumble course proper at Morphettville three weeks back and he did have solid market to win the event but the tempo and the fact he had to come very wide on the turn perhaps worked against him. Suited at the 1400m here and he should have upside left. Form has been franked with Royal Rumble winning last week.
Big Danger: 3 Riziz (Bet Now: $7.00)is a greybeard but gee he is still racing so well. Was unwanted in betting last time out in the Oakbank Stakes but he kept surging out wide and savaged the line late in the piece to get another Stakes win. I think as he is getting older, he will appreciate slightly further, so 1400m is ideal and he has a great overall record on the Parks track.
Long Shot: 11 Victory Downs (Bet Now: $13.00) resumed behind Counter Pulse on the course proper three weeks ago and stuck on okay despite never really being a winning threat. Only have to go back to last prep to see the quality of horse he indeed is and he does have good stats here as well as second up. Big improver for mine.
Race Seven (16:38) : HC Nitschkie Stakes 1400m:
Back Me: 11 Hectopascal (Bet Now: $11.00)is a handy filly for Darren Weir who rises sharply in grade but has to be respected here. She looked in a spot of bother at Sandown a couple of Wednesdays back but once she got clear air, she really attacked the line and got the win. Looks to have enormous scope and has the fresh legs, plus the form around her reads well. Happy to be with her.
Big Danger: 10 Waterloo Sunset (Bet Now: $4.50) is a regally bred filly who had been knocking on the door to win a race and it finally came last time out over 1400m at Caulfield, albeit a dead heat with Plenty To Like, but she chased hard from the turn and finished off with real purpose. This looks a nice progression and is a key threat.
Long Shot: 8 Posh Journey (Bet Now: $18.00) put in a couple of howlers before getting the confidence back up somewhat with a pleasing second at Oakbank behind a future Stakes winner in Have Another Glass. Draws a soft gate here and she saves her best for the Parks track. Knockout chance at odds.
Race Eight (17:14) : #SeeSouthAustralia Chairmans Stakes 2030m:
Back Me: If 1 Morvada (Bet Now: $5.50) can get cover from the wide gate, I think he is the one to beat. He comes through the Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) where he did an enormous job in defeat given he was three and four wide no cover for the trip yet fought on well to run fourth to Grand Chancellor. The step up to 2000m is ideal, and last time he was there, he ran second to Sacred Elixir. That reads well for this.
Big Danger: 9 Netherfield (Bet Now: $4.00) is a talented type for the Mick Price yard who should appreciate the step up to 2000m. Ran over the mile at Sandown on Easter Monday where he took an age to wind up, but was coming hard, only to be bloused on the peg by Top Of The Range. Stable wouldn’t send him unless they thought he was a Derby contender.
Long Shot: 5 Waging War (Bet Now: $8.50) rises sharply in grade/depth but one box he has ticked is that he is an out and out stayer. Ran over 2200m at Murray Bridge last Wednesday against the older horses and he was dominant in winning, getting the job done by over three lengths and running right through the line. Back to 2000m is some concern, but he’s tough, hard fit and in winning form.
