29/5/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gold Coast

The Gold Coast will conduct a solid nine event program on Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is put 4.5 metres from the 1400m-Winning Post; Out two metres for the remainder.

4 Corvo (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Tony Gollan trained juvenile that was solid on debut at Doomben over 1050m when a narrow second to Aviemore. Had a little freshen up before racing over 1350m at Doomben and in a driving go, he finished best in an impressive win. He’ll love 1400m and noteworthy that last start, he was backed as if unbeatable, so the market likes him as a prospect.

2 Neutron (Bet Now: $3.90) gets the Blinkers on first time for Kacy Fogden so interesting to see how that key gear change will work with this colt, who drops a fair bit in depth after contesting the Ken Russell when down the track behind Wisdom Of Water. Would need to win this to be any chance of getting a run in the JJ Atkins, so it seems it’s chips in with Blinkers on.

9 See Marie (Bet Now: $4.80) looks to have her fair share of talent for Desleigh Forster. Does she want further though? Left somewhat flat footed over 1400m at the Sunny Coast last start but loved the way she worked home nearer the inside when third to Thunder Mania, who is scratched from this and I dare say is heading to the JJ Atkins as one of the key local chances, so that form has to be respected.

5 Come In Spinner (Bet Now: $4.00) is on the quick back up for Barry Lockwood after racing at Ipswich on Sunday where he did far too much work on speed and rightfully weakened in the straight to finish fifth under what I thought was a poor ride from Cormack. Gets the claim for Bayliss, lands on speed and you’d have to assume he’s pulled up well to back up after that hard outing on the weekend.

2 Samurai (Bet Now: $2.05) is a son of Fastnet Rock for Noel Doyle that is racing well but can’t quite crack it for a win. Ran over 1400m at the Sunny Coast last Wednesday on a very testing wet track and seemed to struggle on it but stayed on and was sound in defeat when a narrow second. He’s near a maiden win…is it here though?

3 Fast Thinker (Bet Now: $11.00) is on his home track and could be an improver here at odds. Didn’t really fire a shot first up at Beaudesert behind Elegant Grace before going to Ipswich where he was ridden more positively and stuck on well behind Valet, finishing third. Les Kelly runners should always be respected when racing on the home track.

Tricky race this, but think the safe option is the Gary Duncan trained 4 Populist (Bet Now: $3.10). His last couple of runs have come over 2200m at the Sunny Coast, wearing them down to win two back before racing under the lights last time and was just too keen in the run, leaving him with nothing left for the straight when third to Mawaany Machine. Seems to be holding his form well, so leaning his way.

Fitter and up in trip should suit 3 Raqeeq (Bet Now: $2.90) for the Chris Waller team. He ran over 1800m here last time out, his first run in around three weeks, in what was a real sit/sprint, and found the line okay I thought behind stablemate Gresham. This is a very thin race and he is in the right stable. Hard to beat against these.

Matty Kropp has 2 Romakash (Bet Now: $4.80) flying at the moment, with this five year old winning his past two, both coming over 2200m here. Won a Benchmark 78 two back before taking on open company where the race wasn’t really run to suit, but he dug in when required and was able to just get the better of a tough nut in Fighting Teo. 2400m should be okay and is hard to beat.

2 Star Reflection (Bet Now: $6.50) is the one I’m keeping an eye on. Thought her trial at the Gold Coast was outstanding prior to resuming in the Silk Stocking where she was another that got back in the field and couldn’t come on in an on pace/rail dominated affair. Good second up record and has a touch of class when right.

1 Jadentom (Bet Now: $2.80) is a ripping mare for Lindsay Hatch who is proven at metro level. Was a notable drifter in betting when resuming on her home track at Toowoomba but class got her home in the end and she was too good, continuing her fab first up record. Stable looks to have found a winnable race for her in returning to metro company.

5 Clockwise (Bet Now: $10.00) looks one of the hardest to beat for Tony Webb. Drops a fair bit in grade/depth after contesting the Silk Stocking here just under two weeks ago where she was back in a slowly run race and couldn’t get involved, but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Love You Lucy. This looks more her level, so a leading chance.

The market will tell you if 2 Inquiry (Bet Now: $2.90) wins or not. Always have to be on guard when it comes to John Smerdon and when he has one stepping out for the first time under his care. He got a result recently with Oriental Runner and looking to do the same with Inquiry, who did an outstanding job in North Queensland before eventually going to Doomben and beating all bar the in form Red Chase. Now with Smerdon, if the market likes him, bet up.

1 Rhyme Nor Rhythm (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Lindsay Hatch trained seven year old that was backed with real confidence when resuming on his home track at Toowoomba and worked home strongly from the back but couldn’t quite get there when second to stablemate Jadentom. Gets in well after the claim and has a good record at the Gold Coast.

3 Tawfiq Boy (Bet Now: $16.00) can be an improver here at odds. Ran over 1350m at Doomben last time out where he was back near last in a slowly run affair and was never really a winning hope but did make up ground late. Fast run 1200m should be to his liking and he does save his best for the six furlongs. Knockout chance for sure.

1 Chico Milagro (Bet Now: $2.60) looks the pony to bet on. Son of I Am Invincible for the Tony Gollan camp that resumes, having not raced since May 2019 when second in a Gold Coast maiden at this trip behind Snowzone. Ran sharp time and looked to go about it quite well when winning a Doomben trial last Tuesday. Finds a winnable kick off point.

11 Shoulders (Bet Now: $9.00) is a daughter of Snitzel for the Scott Morrisey team that had trialled up well prior to debuting at Doomben where she got into a decent enough spot just off the speed but was very raw and new to the caper when fourth to impressive winner Liza With A Zee. She’ll come on from that and is on her home track.

4 Managua (Bet Now: $3.90) is a very interesting runner. Team Edmonds trains this gelding, who is having his first run for the stable. Debuted at Geelong back on September 1 when down the track in what has turned out to be a hot maiden, won by Craftmanship, a subsequent Stakes performer. All three trials leading in have been good, I’d be watching the market.

Want to give 1 Brains (Bet Now: $9.00) another chance. Didn’t think his run two back at the Sunny Coast behind Red Chase was quite good. He then raced at this track/distance and the race just wasn’t run to suit at all so want to be forgiving of that effort. This looks a much more suitable assignment and off the Sunny Coast effort, can take this out.

4 Fairy Me Home (Bet Now: $4.60) is knocking on the door to take one out. Ran over this track/distance last time out when back off the speed and closed off well but was clearly no match for Seentoomany, finishing second to the Costa mare. He doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates does this guy, but he’s going well and overall, this isn’t a strong race.

9 Joymaker (Bet Now: $4.40) is worth another look I feel. Was keen on her when she raced at this track/distance last start and the market liked her too, into $3.70 from $4.20, but she didn’t really fire a shot from the back behind Seentoomany in a most disappointing effort. Was working up to something positive prior to that, so giving her another look.

9 Dynamic Thinker (Bet Now: $7.00) for me in a tricky race. Les Kelly trains this son of So You Think, who has had two runs back from a spell, each coming over 1200m at Ipswich, the latest seeing him savaging the line from the back to score a big win. Hoping he can take advantage of gate one and if so, up in trip, he’ll take some beating.

6 Fisticuffs (Bet Now: $2.35) certainly has the talent to take this out, but I think he’s a bit overhyped. He had every chance to win last time out over 1200m here. He was there to beat Oriental Runner, but that horse was too good and held him on the line. Does he want a rise to 1400m? Potentially. Can win, but IMO, he’ll likely be short odds again and couldn’t touch him as a win bet prospect.

11 Rapido Gris (Bet Now: $6.00) should be suited up to 1400m for the Troy Pascoe team. Was very good two back over 1400m at Eagle Farm behind Ballistic Boy before coming back to 1200m at Ipswich where he got a fair way back in the run but worked home with purpose. Back up in trip is a big tick and he’ll be strong late.

I think this race will determine if 2 Command’N’Conquer (Bet Now: $2.00) is a contender or pretender. Looked a Stakes class horse at the start of his career, winning his first three in such impressive fashion. Then was freshened up, closed off hard over 900m here before going to the Gold Coast Guineas when far from disgraced behind Hightail. Surely he beats these.

6 Angus The Black (Bet Now: $10.00) has been up a little while for Tony Gollan but continues to hold his form pretty well. Far from disgraced two back over 1400m at the Sunny Coast before coming back to 1350m at Ipswich where Nothdurft put him into a lovely spot just off the speed before angling into clear and he put the race away at the top of the straight to win well. He can go on with it here.

8 Lady Appleton(Bet Now: $11.00) is a Barry Baldwin trained filly that is a little query at 1400m but has the barrier to see it out. Attempted to lead throughout over 1200m at the Sunny Coast last start and gave a good kick but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Plenty, who won last Saturday at Eagle Farm to tick that form off. Blowout chance if it’s a softly run 1400m.

BEST BET: Race Nine Number 2 Command’N’Conquer

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 4 Corvo

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 2 Star Reflection
