Pinjarra will play host to an eight race card on Wednesday, postponed from Boxing Day due to the heat. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (15:49) Essential Air Con Services Maiden 2000m
The rise to 2000m should suit 6 Allegiance (Bet Now: $3.50). This mare was a few weeks between jumps when up to the mile here last time out and was good late without really threatening when third to Bell Lap in a race dominated by the leader and eventual winner. Like her up to 2000m and has more upside than most.
5 Cafe Nera (Bet Now: $2.30) is a leading chance. She ran over 1800m at Ascot last start when wide with cover before blending in and surging, hitting the front and looked home, but was nabbed late when a narrow second. Gets a suck run from the gate and 2000m should be fine.
2 Art Warrior (Bet Now: $5.50) is a first four contender. Ashley Maley trained galloper that comes through the same 1800m race at Ascot mentioned above. They rode him with a sit and looked to travel well, but he took forever to wind into his work. That’s why 2000m looks ideal and the depth isn’t as strong.
Race 2. (16:24) Alcoa Pinjarra Maiden 1200m
Third up from a spell, hard fit, 2 Civvy Street (Bet Now: $3.50) is getting towards D-Day and I think D-Day will result in a maiden win. Dragged back from a wide gate at this track/distance last time out and just conceded too much head start but was really good late when fourth. Gets a significant jockey upgrade and if he can sit closer in the run, he’ll take beating.
1 Tenacious Reward (Bet Now: $3.50) is bursting to win his maiden. Has finished runner up in both career outings, the latest at this track/distance where you could make a case to say he wins with clear air but he seemed reluctant to take the gap. If he gets clear air this time around, he’ll look the winner at some stage.
3 Magic Whistle (Bet Now: $11.00) is in with a shout. He ran down the track in the race Tenacious Reward ran second in. He got back in the run and was held up for a few strides but was good late when eventually clear. Might want 1400m, but if this is a truly run 1200m, that will suit his racing style.
Race 3. (16:59) Book Weekend Racing Tickets Online Maiden 1413m
8 Extra Secret (Bet Now: $2.50) deserves another chance. Adam Durrant trained filly that was smashed in betting when debuting at this track/distance just under three weeks ago. She seemingly had a good enough run in transit but didn’t finish it off and was quite plain. Pike is on and I think you have to trust the market love for her on debut.
7 Sweet Admiration (Bet Now: $2.00) beat Extra Secret home in that race mentioned above. She too had a good sit off the speed and worked to the line pretty well late in the piece when third. Gets a suck run again from the good draw and a positive lead is Chris Parnham sticking.
5 Gypsy Gee (Bet Now: $6.00) is a knockout chance. Was three weeks between runs when racing over 1200m here last start and was good late from off the speed, clocking some of the better late splits in the race. Fitter and up to 1400m, a key threat if she can sit closer in the run.
Race 4. (17:34) Barragup Self Storage Maiden 1413m
4 Kelly’s Hero (Bet Now: $8.50) gets the nod. Adam Durrant trained gelding that resumed over 1000m down the straight here where it was more or less a barrier trial for him and that’s how he ran behind Kimberley Boy. Like him up to 1400m and while he might want one more, he’s in the right camp.
7 Vevinsky (Bet Now: $2.45) should be suited up in trip. David Harrison trained three year old that has had two runs back from a break, the latest being over 1200m here where he had a suck run behind the speed and worked to the line pretty well when third to Playz With Fire. Up in trip looks a positive, as does the jockey upgrade.
Back to 1400m I find interesting with 1 Freedomofthepress (Bet Now: $7.00) but I was taken by his effort over 1800m at Ascot last time. He did a power of work when sitting on speed and fought gamely, only getting the staggers very late. Back to 1400m is the query, but he’s not lacking hard fitness.
Race 5. (18:14) Wealthvisory Handicap (Class 1) 1600m
1 Westriver Miracle (Bet Now: $3.40) is the one to beat IMO. Last couple of runs have come over 1400m at Belmont, winning the maiden two back before getting a mile out of his ground last start but was good late, suggesting a rise in trip will suit, and he gets that here. He’s one of the better bets on the card.
2 Bell Lap (Bet Now: $2.15) comes into this race as a last start maiden winner at this track/distance. Odds on pop that afternoon that got control in front and really, wasn’t getting beat from a fair way out. The knock is the overall time and the late splits were just fair, so he needs to improve, but does have scope unlike some here.
5 Never Sober (Bet Now: $13.00) is one for multiples. Big maiden win from him here last start. Was wide no cover for the trip but kept finding under pressure and surged hard late to get the win. Whether that has busted him or not, time will tell, but the win had plenty of merit to it.
Race 6. (18:50) Chaff City Handicap (Class 5) 1000m
4 Sunnysilk (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket here. She was seven weeks between runs when racing at this track/distance last time out. Just run off her legs early but was warming to the task late behind Olga Luisa. Better for the run, if she can show more early speed, her best is good enough to take this out.
3 Material Witness (Bet Now: $3.10) is a daughter of Star Witness for Adam Durrant that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since July 17 on a testing Belmont surface when down the track and at the end of her prep. Just one trial to get ready, but she’s a mare who usually comes to hand early and Pike steers.
1 Vane Tempest (Bet Now: $2.25) is a track/distance winner and I do think back to 1000m is a big tick for her. Ran over 1200m in the Epona Classic last time out when no closer than three wide no cover for the trip and I thought her effort to stick on for fourth was a remarkable effort. Back to this set up, she’s hard to beat.
Race 7. (19:30) Rowdycool Air Handicap (Class 1) 1000m
1 Kimberley Boy (Bet Now: $1.75) looks to have come back in super order. Trialled up super prior to resuming at this track/distance where he looked a good thing on paper and despite a few nervous moments, class came to the fore and he spanked them. Finds a thin Class 1, he can win again.
5 Short Talk (Bet Now: $5.00) looks the only threat. Stephen Miller trained mare that resumes, having not raced since June 16 when a winner of a maiden at Belmont despite doing her best to throw it away in a race where the form out of it has been good. Moved well in a recent Lark Hill trial, watch the market with her.
2 Drama Free (Bet Now: $27.00) is a definite market watch and if he’s big odds, I could have something small on him. Resumes for Jeff Pike, having not raced since the Winter where he had a three run prep, all on wet ground, and he failed to fire. He’s a dry track horse and should get that here. Must for multiples.
Race 8. (20:10) G Force Printing Mandurah Cup Jan 3 Handicap (Class 3) 1413m
11 Western Rhythm (Bet Now: $SP.00) is facing her D-Day here but confident she can pass with flying colours. Resumed at Belmont and should have won but had no luck at a vital stage. She then went to Ascot when on speed and didn’t finish it off, and I’m putting that down to being ridden too warm. Much better suited with a sit and Pike is back on.
Staying at 1400m is the knock with 4 Irritable Rodnee (Bet Now: $3.60) but he looks to have come back in good order. Resumed at this track/distance where the market wanted him. Seemed to have his chance but the run was a pass mark when third. If this was a mile, he likely wins. Just 1400m again is the query.
2 Kitgum (Bet Now: $18.00) is one for exotics. Last couple of runs have come at Albany where he has been quite good. Latest run came over 1500m when wide throughout and battled on pretty well in defeat when fourth. Not sure he has the quality to win this, but can fill a first four spot.
