Race 1. (14:59) Tabtouch Handicap (0MWLY) 1000m
4 The Calabrese (Bet Now: $SP.00) returns to Ascot after racing at Geraldton last start in the Battavia. He just got too far out of his ground but really liked the way he closed his race off in defeat behind Supersession. That form is A1 for this and only has to hold his form to be taking this out IMO.
3 Magnique (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday over 1200m here. She attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers late for Smooth Chino. That form is A1, she takes beating against these.
5 Surfside Session (Bet Now: $SP.00) was kept safe in betting when racing at Bunbury on Sunday. He seemed to get every chance in behind the speed but couldn’t finish his race off well enough. Proven performer at this level, short course suits, I wouldn’t be penning him.
Race 2. (15:34) Liquor Barons Handicap (72+) 1800m
7 Forever Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) should take a power of beating here for Michael Grantham. He resumed over the mile here two weeks ago when getting off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a really good return behind Asphalt. Fitter and up to 1800m, good upside to come, he’s clearly the one they have to beat.
5 Funchal (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Team Williams after a second to Asphalt a fortnight back. She got a fair way back but sliced her way through and drove hard late but just missed out on the win. Bursting to win, she commands respect.
6 Royal Toronado (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fifth to Asphalt two weeks back. He was back near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did close off with purpose and was an eye catcher. He might need another run but off that effort, he’s in the mix.
Race 3. (16:11) Quayclean Handicap (66+) 1400m
8 Fast Harry (Bet Now: $SP.00) could be racing in Stakes grade this time next year for Team Williams. Very progressive horse that won two weeks ago over this track/distance, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Hard to knock the way he’s racing and I see no signs of him going backwards. If anything, it is onwards and upwards.
6 Awesome Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday over 1400m here, attempting to lead throughout and was hailed as the winner, getting nabbed late by Noteworthy. Front end control, he’ll run a beauty.
3 Thehorseman (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1200m in the Battavia at Geraldton where he was met with strong market support. He got off speed and kept chasing but was never really threatening behind Supersession. Up in trip, he’s a definite improver.
Race 4. (16:51) Regional Championship 1200m
1 Bolta (Bet Now: $SP.00) just has to bring his efforts from Geraldton to town and I think he is the likely winner. He has been dominant in that part of the world, and while at times the margin has been narrow, he just knows how to win. Likely gets across from the draw to sit on speed and will take beating.
2 Wineaclocksumwhere (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the clear threat. Formerly with Peter Fernie, he is 2/2 since joining Samantha Faithfull, both wins coming at Albany and each time he has been quite dynamic, the latest a five length romp. 1200m should be fine for him, he’s the key threat.
7 Spirit Man (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fourth to Bolta in the Qualifier at Geraldton last start. He sat outside the speed and was there to win but just couldn’t quite quite finish his race off. Maps to get a sweet sit in transit…doubt he wins but he can run top four.
Race 5. (17:28) Lee Steere Classic 1400m
2 Sherpa Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) just has to run 1400m and he’s the likely winner. He resumed in the Placid Ark where he got dragged back from the wide gate to settle near last and was a real eye catcher the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Luana Miss. Tricky gate again but off that return, he has to be the one to beat, and clearly.
7 Riva Aquarama (Bet Now: $SP.00) was given a throw at the stumps in the Champion Fillies where she was near the speed and did have her chance but was far from disgraced jn defeat when fourth to Pure Excess. Back to 1400m I like for her and the depth here is nowhere near as deep.
10 Pure Silver (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps back up in trip after racing over 1100m at Bunbury on Sunday. She got into a decent spot just off the speed and was there to win but just couldn’t quite get there in a driving go. Up to 1400m does suit…can she win? I say no, but is a must for exotics.
Race 6. (18:05) Bisley Workwear Handicap (1MW) 1800m
1 Fame (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the better bets on the card for me. WA debut came over the mile at the midweeks at Belmont. The pattern was suiting those on speed so given he was back near last, he was never really in the mix, but loved the way he closed off. Market push for him that day was significant as well so I say into this, fitter and up to 1800m, he’s going to take a power of beating.
14 The Crimson Pirate (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ideally suited up to 1800m. He ran over the mile last Saturday and was just pipped late by Westbound in a race that did rate better than the WA Guineas, close to it at the least. Flying without winning, he gets a great chance.
2 Here For Cheques (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Westbound race from last Saturday over the mile here. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was good late. Like him up in trip, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 7. (18:40) Swan Draught Handicap (78+) 1200m
14 Celestial Storm (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented mare for Luke Fernie that resumes. She last raced during the winter where she ran really well throughout the campaign. Given a good break in readiness for this prep and a recent trial to get ready was quite good. One of the hardest to beat.
4 Wubin Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Colin Webster trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Aug 2 over 1200m at Pinjarra when off speed and was okay late behind Keep Reading. She is a mare who can sprint well on the fresh side and a recent trial was quite good.watch betting.
3 Keep Reading (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at this track/distance. He got off speed and seemed to have his chance, just whacking late behind Smooth Chino. Not sure he wins this but can run first four.
Race 8. (19:20) Jungle Dawn Classic 1400m
Pretty keen to be with 2 Luvnwar (Bet Now: $SP.00). She tried to get herself into the Railway via the Asian Beau and Peters. She ran really well in both but just couldn’t quite get there each time. Back to Mares grade, she seems really well in at the weights…I think bad luck is the only thing beating her.
1 Bonjoy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is another that tried to get into the Railway via those respective races. She didn’t have the clearest of paths in the Peters but at the same time, I don’t think she was winning. Much better suited at this level and with luck from the gate, she’ll take holding out.
13 Objectify (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing two weeks back in the Jungle Mist where she got a fair way out of her ground but loved the way she closed off late in the piece behind Drakaina. 1400m should be fine, shes one of the leading contenders.
Race 9. (20:00) Winterbottom Stakes 1200m
I think 1 Overpass (Bet Now: $SP.00) wins doesn’t he? He is the big boy here with the runs on the board being the two time defending champ. He resumed in The Everest and gave an almighty sight, but just had no answers late for Ka Ying Rising. That is the best form line in world racing at the moment, tick over trial was good, think he will lead comfortably…I can’t work out why he is not even money.
2 Jokers Grin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the best of the locals. But are the locals much opposition? He is 2/2 this time in and each win, he has been quite arrogant the way he has put them away, making a mess of them with something in hand. He did beat Overpass in The Quokka so in that regard, he has the runs on the board, but I just can’t see him holding that margin here. But, he’s the clear threat if Overpass is off his game.
The gate makes it awful, her ratings are plain…but to the eye, 11 Luana Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) just has that special something and does get the weight pull, which brings her into the mix for mine. Just needs three wide cover, a drag into the race, and she can launch late.
Race 10. (20:42) Mrs Mac's Handicap (1MW) 1200m
15 Define Beautiful (Bet Now: $SP.00) was dynamic three weeks ago at this track/distance when leading throughout. Yes, the pattern was in her corner but even allowing for that, she was dominant from the front and gave nothing else a look in. Only has to run up to that effort again and it’ll have to be a good one to get past her.
10 Wicked Venom (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over this track/distance a fortnight back. He got back off speed and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Sir Dreamalot. If within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.
11 Golden Kathleen (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a too WA juvenile back in the day and while the wheels have fallen off since then, she does come into this as a last start winner, that win coming at Northam when getting the suck run behind the speed before angling clear and drove hard late to score. She’s found winning form, she’s in the mix.
