Race 1. (15:24) Amelia Park (Rs1mw) 1100m
Landed with 4 Lexington City (Bet Now: $1.80) in what should be a comfortable win for this promising sprinter. He resumed two weeks ago over 1000m here and looked all over a winner when he led and booted clear, but was nabbed on the peg by Laced Up Heels. Fitter, soft lead on the cards, he’s clearly the one to beat.
5 Queen Of Soul (Bet Now: $11.00) is capable with her best. She is just under two months between runs since resuming at Belmont where the market said she would need the run and that’s how it panned out with a plain finale behind Universal Pleasure. Fresh legs and likes Ascot, she can bounce back.
3 Magic To Exceed (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Team Casey trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since July 2 at Belmont when going hard in front and just feeling the pinch late behind Magnificent Andy. He is a bomb fresh and I thought he moved well in a recent trial, so watch the market.
Race 2. (16:04) Tabtouch-Westspeed (Rs0ly) 1200m
2 Oly’s Choice (Bet Now: $2.30) on top for me. Promising animal for Brock Lewthwaite that resumes, having not raced since July 28 when a strong winner Northam, ending the prep on a high. Resumes without a trial but interesting that the stable nominated him for a weak race at Kalgoorlie, but instead resumes here, so for me that signals some level of intent.
5 Requisition (Bet Now: $5.00) is the map horse and is a horse in winning form. He won two weeks ago in a similar race to this, getting the suck run behind the speed before angling clear and in a driving go, finished best. Bit more depth here I feel, but he’s a winner and can take this out.
9 Fred Dag (Bet Now: $26.00) is a knockout hope. Bruce Watkins trained gelding that resumes. His last run came on April 24 at Albany when contesting a pretty solid race and didn’t quite finish it off behind Little Punga. He can sprint well fresh and his trials leading indicates he’s come back in super order.
Race 3. (16:48) Tabtouch-Placid Ark Prelude 1000m
3 All Show (Bet Now: $1.85) looks the winner. Three weeks between runs since contesting the 3YO Classic where she should have won, but just had no luck at all in the straight when wanting to get clear and it was pretty much a barrier trial. First up win was electric, so giving her another look.
2 Baby Paris (Bet Now: $2.35) is a quality filly for Colin Webster that resumes. She had a two run prep during the Winter at Belmont, winning them both quite easily, with class coming to the fore each time she stepped out. Trial win last week was sharp and will be out of trouble near the speed.
1 Just Go (Bet Now: $7.00) will land on the bunny and run well. He did that here three weeks ago in the 3YO Classic and looked like he would kick back and win, but was nabbed near the peg by Snowdome, who ran well last Saturday in the Belgravia. Hard fit, good form, right racing style, hard to beat.
Race 4. (17:24) Crown Perth (Rs1mw) 1800m
Landed with 10 Vitalize (Bet Now: $4.60). She was a cat of a horse once upon a time, but she has turned it around in recent times. Ran here last Wednesday where she had the suck run in behind before angling into clear air and she let down nicely to put them away in style. She relaxes in the run so 1800m should be fine, and does find a thin race IMO.
It was hard to miss the first up run of 9 Truly Inspired (Bet Now: $8.50). Lightly raced gelding for Adam Durrant that resumed over the mile here two weeks ago, his first run since June last year, and gee he was an eye catcher from the back when a close up fourth to Mystery Island. If there is no second up syndrome, he’ll take beating.
7 Mong Khon (Bet Now: $26.00) should appreciate the rise in trip. Was 1700m back to 1400m and a few weeks between runs when racing at the midweeks here and was pretty good in defeat behind an in form Popcorn Tender. There is a 50% chance of decent rain hitting on Saturday, so if that rain comes, he’ll be right in the mix.
Race 5. (18:08) Quayclean (Bm66+) 1600m
6 Strike Now (Bet Now: $5.50) is bursting to win a race. Hopefully that can eventuate here. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when back in the run but was tracking up nicely, came wide and looked the winner when he dashed, but couldn’t finish it off and had to settle for a narrow second. Harvey on, draws soft…he gets his chance.
11 Saintorio (Bet Now: $4.20) can probably confirm himself as a WA Guineas contender with a forward showing here. He ran over 1400m here a fortnight back and fought on really well behind a genuine WA Guineas contender, All The King’s Men. The 1600m should be fine and is the one on the up.
Back to the mile I don’t like for 4 Tri For Us (Bet Now: $9.50) but she is a mare with talent. Resumed over 1800m here two weeks back and I thought her return was a big pass mark in a race not run to suit. CJP back on is a big tick for her and if the tempo is more genuine, she can launch late.
Race 6. (18:49) Byron Bay Premium Lager-Bm72+ 1000m
Good test here for 8 Sniparoochy (Bet Now: $3.10) but confident she can measure up fresh. This mare is first up, having not raced since July 9 at Belmont when a dominant winner over 1200m, making it four wins for the prep. Liked her trial last week at Lark Hill and Brad Parnham, who rode in the trial, sticks for raceday.
1 River Beau (Bet Now: $11.00) can bounce back against this level. He was a narrow but strong winner fresh before going to the Crawford where he was tardy away and then sat wide for the trip in a total forgive behind Miss Conteki. Back to benchmark grade, he can bounce back.
4 Zoushine (Bet Now: $41.00) is an improver at odds. First run for Susan Olive came in the Crawford where she was back, four wide no cover for the trip, and the hard run just told in a clear forgive. Draws to get a much better this time around and her best is certainly good enough.
Race 7. (19:25) Prince Of Wales Stks 1000m
4 Nerodio (Bet Now: $8.00) is the each way bet for me. Such a tough animal that is thereabouts more often than not. He ran in the Crawford two weeks ago when just off the speed and held up at a crucial stage before getting out and attacking the line when close up behind Miss Conteki. He has a much more kinder map than that girl here, and he’ll be decent odds too. Backing each way.
If 11 Miss Conteki (Bet Now: $2.90) can overcome the wide gate and take this out, then she’ll clearly be #1 seed of the locals for the Winterbottom. Big win from her fresh in the Crawford where she overcome a tricky inside gate to win well. Hopefully can get three/four wide cover and launch late.
Good test for 5 Comes A Time (Bet Now: $8.00) and see whether or not he is a Winterbottom horse or not. He has been kept on ice since a solid win in the Black Heart Bart, with an eye towards this Carnival. Tick over trial was strong, he has residual fitness, rolls forward and is tough.
Race 8. (20:03) Asian Beau Stakes 1400m
The gate looks tricky but can’t ignore the first up win of 16 Trix Of The Trade (Bet Now: $6.50). It was electric. He gave them a start, sat wide, yet still gave them a beating in an outstanding return. They went down the Derby path last prep and it took away his brilliance. Now trained as a miler, he could be dynamic and be a serious Railway contender. Can confirm it with a win here.
The fascinating runner in the race is clearly 6 Alaskan God (Bet Now: $4.80). He came from really nowhere last prep, going from being just a promising horse to ending up being a Derby winner, a dominant one at that, and touted as a leading candidate for the Railway/Northerly. 1400m fresh is an ask, but he might just be next level and too good. Watch the market.
13 Searchin Rocs (Bet Now: $14.00) is an interesting one. She was formerly with David Harrison but now finds herself with Jim Taylor. She’s a ripping mare who is just so genuine and busts a gut every time she steps out. Trial win was strong, she can sit forward and prove hard to beat.
Race 9. (20:38) Joan Parnham 90Th B'day-Bm66+ 1400m
Fitter with a significant jockey upgrade, D-Day for 7 Probity (Bet Now: $6.50). Month between runs when racing two weeks ago over 1200m here where he was back near last in the run and never a factor but really liked the way he finished his race off behind Swear To God. Fitter, up to 1400m with Chris Parnham taking over, he’s the one for me.
3 Brooklyn Pier (Bet Now: $3.20) has the right form around him to give this a shake. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he got the suck run near the speed and battled on strongly when second to Trix Of The Trade, who looks a potential Railway contender. That has to read well for this.
4 Kaymay (Bet Now: $16.00) ran in the Swear To God race mentioned above. She was wide no cover for the trip and the hard run just told, finishing down the track. Had trialled well prior to that and form around her from last prep reads very well, so I am not penning her just yet.
