Sydney racing this Saturday returns to Randwick for a strong nine race card, where it is McKell Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (11:20) : RB Electrical & Communications Plate 1400m:
Back Me: 2 Flow (Bet Now: $3.30) ran at the midweeks here last Wednesday and just had no luck at all behind Cadogan given he got badly held up in the straight when appearing to look the winner. Just needs normal luck here to go close, win, and perhaps go onto the float to Eagle Farm for the J J Atkins.
Big Danger: 4 Acatour (Bet Now: $4.60) debuted at Canterbury a tick under three weeks back and produced a lovely turn of foot from off the speed to win narrowly but impressively. The trials leading in were pretty good and as we know, the stable has had a great season with their youngsters, and this one has enormous upside.
Roughie: 3 Cogliere (Bet Now: $26.00) resumed in the feature two year old race during the Wagga Carnival and he just looked weighted down by the hefty impost and could only manage fourth. He has since trialled at Port Macquarie and went good there in winning. Should be fitter now and 1400m is what he is looking for.

Race Two (11:55) : TAB Highway Plate (Class 3) 1100m:
Back Me: 3 Star Shaft (Bet Now: $3.20) was well backed at odds to win first up at Scone and loomed to win, but couldn’t quite get past All Summer Long. Wonderbolt contested that race and he meets that horse 4.5kg worse off, so it’s understandable why Wonderbolt is short, but this horse just looks the goods.
Big Danger: 1 Wonderbolt (Bet Now: $2.80) resumed during the Scone Carnival and worked home strongly late when a close up fifth to the well performed All Summer Long, beaten just under three lengths. He has a very good second up horse and is a proven city performer, so he can definitely win this with luck in running.
Roughie: 8 Flash In The Dark (Bet Now: $10.00) ran second in that Highway race and he she tried hard after attempting to lead all the way. She beat the rest of the field off but couldn’t hold out the finishing burst of Royal Engineer. If she can get a cheap sectional on speed, she can turn the tables and the stable is going well.

Race Three (12:30) : Candana Bathrooms Handicap (72) 1400m:
Back Me: 9 Flaunting (Bet Now: $17.00) had been a real tease throughout her career, but gee there was plenty to like about her maiden win at Hawkesbury, where she bolted up to them and won pretty much under little pressure. She has performed well in town before and now she has won, she can go right on with it.
Big Danger: 6 Dixie Chick (Bet Now: $4.20) was outclassed in the South Pacific behind Handfast before trialling behind Japonisme and Counterattack and running during the Scone Carnival where she ran a credible third to Our Beatnik. She has raced well here previously and will take some beating.
Roughie: 7 Bold Beginning (Bet Now: $13.00) resumed at Canterbury a couple of weeks back and finished on well late in running fourth. Bit harder here, but has good upside and stable is in super form at the moment.

Race Four (13:10) : Evans & Partners Handicap (74) 2000m:
Back Me: 7 Spanish Stride (Bet Now: $26.00) is on his last chance to squeeze into the Queensland Derby field and this looks a winnable race after closing off well last time out to run sixth to Romantic Maid at Rosehill. Bigger track and extra distance is right up his alley.
Big Danger: 6 Divine Sanction (Bet Now: $5.00) comes through the Romantic Maid race at Rosehill where he stuck yo his guns well when running third. Little query at running a strong 2000m here, but he is in form, and that’s half the battle won.
Roughie: 8 High Dreamer (Bet Now: $9.00) is rising in grade and depth, but the Paul Perry trained galloper has earned a crack at this type of race after beating the older horses over the mile during the Scone Carnival. He will eat up the trip and stable is going very well at the moment.

Race Five (13:50) : Wilson Asset Management Handicap 1100m:
Back Me: 7 Oxford Poet (Bet Now: $7.50) looks a really good chance to my eye. He resumes here for Kim Waugh off the back of a couple of outstanding trial wins, the latest coming at Beaumont-Newcastle. Aside from the run in the Spring, his first up record is very good, and from what I have seen at the trials, he is ready to fire fresh.
Big Danger: 5 I Am Zelady (Bet Now: $3.80) is a talented mare that resumes for Joe Pride. She hasn’t raced since bolting up in the Fillies and Mares race on Magic Millions Day at the Gold Coast. Trials have been great and she looks ready to go fresh.
Roughie: 4 Wouldn’t It Be Nice (Bet Now: $41.00) is a definite improver I suspect. He resumed in the Gold Rush (1100m) at Hawkesbury and was simply outclassed behind Furnaces. He has since trialled and looked to do it pretty well behind Oxford Poet at Beaumont-Newcastle. He is the sort of horse that could bob up here, and he loves racing at Randwick.

Race Six (14:30) : Providence Handicap (74) 1200m:
Back Me: 11 Modha (Bet Now: $7.50) rises to city grade but she looks ready for it now. She has strung together two wins at the provincials, the latest coming at Gosford where she overcame difficulties. Looks well in at the weights and stable is going very well.
Big Danger: 8 Bonete (Bet Now: $11.00) was an alarming drifter in betting when resuming at Rosehill three weeks back but she ran on well late behind Daysee Doom in a race where the form has held up alright. Only has upside, and from gate one, she’ll do no work and is a serious threat.
Roughie: 3 Elle Lou (Bet Now: $17.00) resumes here for Chris Waller. She was formerly with Team Hawkes before ending her prep with two runs for Waller, both of which were disappointing. Closed off well in a recent Warwick Farm trial and she can sprint well fresh.

Race Seven (15:05) : Fujitsu Air Conditioning W J McKell Cup 2400m:
Back Me: 8 Raw Impulse (Bet Now: $1.45) looks a good thing here. He is the stayer on the rise after winning three from three on Australian soil under the care of Darren Weir. Just gives the impression he will eat up the 2400m and the form around him reads very well. I think only bad luck can get him beat here.
Big Danger: 7 Iggi Pop (Bet Now: $12.00) comes through the Wagga Cup where he tried hard but was simply no match for the Group l performer Messene. Up to 2400m is ideal for this galloper and is well in at the weights.
Roughie: Another improver could be 2 Opinion (Bet Now: $51.00). He looked hopeless on the firm track in the JRA Cup (2000m) at Doomben a fortnight back behind class mare Real Love. He is at his best when he gets his feet wet, and Randwick always has cushion in it, so that is a tick, he is fitter, and the first up run in the Hawkesbury Cup was excellent.

Race Eight (15:45) : Harvey Norman Handicap (84) 1800m:
Back Me: 8 Sabkhat (Bet Now: $5.00) returns to Sydney after a two run stint at Caulfield, both of which ended with unplaced efforts behind Red Bomber and Tarquin respectively. Should be cherry ripe fitness wise now, runs well at Randwick and has some upside compared to some of these in what looks a thin race on paper.
Big Danger: The speed map only has one leader, 3 Himalaya Dream (Bet Now: $5.00). Yes I know, he can be, or in fact is, the most frustrating horse to follow in Australia because more often than not, he runs poorly, but he can bob up and win, and if he will get his own way in front here, and that is when he races best, plus the step up to 1800m will be ideal.
Roughie: 6 Kaypers (Bet Now: $41.00) was one of many that got badly held up in the Scone Cup (1600m) in what was a very messy race. He wasn’t beaten far in the two runs prior, so he appears to be going well, up to a more ideal trip now and does have a bit of class and quality on his side here.

Race Nine (16:25) : One Solutions Handicap (78) 1400m:
Back Me: 5 Bullrush (Bet Now: $6.00) is an unbeaten galloper for Team Hawkes who was heavily backed when resuming at Canterbury and ducky saluted. Stable have taken their time with this galloper and they look as though they’ll reap the rewards now this time of year.
Big Danger: 1 Caped Crusader (Bet Now: $5.00) is a tough, tough campaigner for Gai Waterhouse who ran a game third last Saturday at Rosehill after setting a strong speed with a hefty impost. 63kg here for a topweight is unheard of in a Saturday race, so he is a really interesting runner here. He will give plenty and loves racing on his home track.
Roughie: 14 Thurston (Bet Now: $19.00) creates some interest here. This former Bryce Heys galloper is now in the care of Chris Waller and has trialled twice for her return to racing, the latest being here in a hot field that included Holler and Amicus. Best form is over further, but watch the market and see how he parades.
