The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday for Chairmans Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:51) UBET Handicap 2400m
2 Chequered Flag (Bet Now: $1.80) should be winning this. Darren Weir trains this bloke, who is absolutely flying this prep and is on target to be a real star of jumps racing. Very capable on the flat too, as we saw a fortnight back when showing great staying prowess late to overhaul Silent Warrior. Up to 2400m ideal, Lane has won on the horse before…just wins.
5 Ashlee Marie (Bet Now: $7.00) is the watch horse. Richard Laming trains this mare, who hasn’t done much in recent times but has had excuses. Pulled up with clear excuses last time out in the Oakbank Cup behind Cougar Express, beaten some 70 metres. Has had the four weeks to get over that, maps well and Dunn back on.
I think back up in trip, 6 Sagaab (Bet Now: $18.00) could be an improver. On the quick back up after racing over 2000m last Saturday on the course proper where he got back in the ruck and never came on behind Our Peaky Blinders but that field did have a bit of depth to it. Good record at this track, hard fit…definite for exotics.
Race 2. (13:26) UBET Adelaide Festival Of Racing Handicap (82) 1000m
4 Azazel (Bet Now: $2.30) looks the way to go. Smart colt for Tony McEvoy that is first up here after a mixed Spring, which ended with a down the track effort in the Caulfield Guineas behind Mighty Boss but he had excuses. Sprinting looks his caper and he has had a couple of solid trials leading up to his return. Happy to be with him.
6 Invisible Girl (Bet Now: $4.40) is a handy mare resuming for the Lloyd Kennewell team. She had a pretty solid Spring/Summer prep, winning a couple of races here wit some assistance from an explosive turn of foot she can produce when cuddled. Trialled well in late March and has been nommed/accepted a few times, so she clearly has had issues, but her best is good enough to go close.
10 Kabini (Bet Now: $10.00) wasn’t far off landing some big bets first up during the Oakbank Carnival when second to Bryan before racing on the course proper a fortnight back and finishing not far off Desert Lashes. Placed in her lone run here, and I’d like to see her ridden a touch more cold, like we saw in her lone win.
Race 3. (14:01) Breeders Stakes 1200m
I think with the hot tempo, 7 Krone (Bet Now: $3.90) is going to be really suited. Appreciated that to win the Cinderella two back before racing down the straight at Flemington and just failing to grab Khulaasa. 1200m six weeks between runs tells me she’s forward enough to win and hopefully she can get cover off a hot speed and launch.
Looks to be good speed so look for 10 Al Naifa (Bet Now: $12.00) to be closing off well late. She resumed in the Dequetteville where she got a mile back in the run but closed off hard late to run third to Fundamentalist. Up to 1200m suits, draws well and should improve fitness wise. Definite winning chance for mine.
4 Farooq (Bet Now: $7.50) is the big watch. Frankel colt for Tony McEvoy who hasn’t raced since Feb 25 at Balaklava when winning like a really good horse over the 1000m, sitting on speed before being clicked up by Jamie Kah and going through his gears like a horse destined for better things. Good test here but I’ll be shocked if he didn’t measure up.
Race 4. (14:41) 13CABS Handicap (70) 1400m
12 Set To Sparkle (Bet Now: $4.00) for me. Tony McEvoy trains this mare, who is first up after a brilliant Spring prep for the stable, where she won a stack of races and established herself as a proper Saturday class horse. Is a first up winner and her recent jump outs have been very good. Expecting her to run well fresh.
7 Cosmic Lights (Bet Now: $4.20) had his second run for the Will Clarken team a fortnight back over 1200m on the course proper where he was resuming and I thought he closed off quite well late in the piece behind Beautiful Flyer. Not the greatest of second up records but new trainer, new surroundings, that could well change.
2 Kirona (Bet Now: $23.00) is a quality mare that resumes for the Ryan Balfour team. She had a brutal Spring/Summer campaign but for the most part she ran really well at a high level. 1400m is short of her best trip but she did trial up well recently behind It’s Been A Battle and can pull out a decent run fresh. Draw the rail also.
Race 5. (15:21) HC Nitschke Stakes 1400m
If 3 Peaceful State (Bet Now: $1.95) is right, he’ll be winning. High quality colt for the Darren Weir team who hasn’t raced since running in both the Australian Guineas and Randwick Guineas. Beat all bar Grunt at Flemington before backing up a week later and with hindsight, he didn’t back up behind Kementari. Best horse in the race by a mile. Just depends where he is at fitness wise.
If Peaceful State is off his game, then 4 Over Exposure (Bet Now: $3.40) is the horse to beat. He has come back as a gelding and is racing superbly. Hard luck story first up on Adelaide Cup Day behind Easy Beast but has gone on to record a couple of dominant wins. Just needs to stretch his brilliance to the seven furlongs but I’m confident he can.
10 Platinum Angel (Bet Now: $9.50) does look the next best, but some lengths off the top pair. Did a bit of work in the run last time out at the Sandown midweeks but always had clear air and when Ethan Brown asked for the big effort, she found and won well. Should do no work from the gate and looks a near good thing to run top three I’d suggest.
Race 6. (16:01) City Of Adelaide Handicap 1400m
Willing to give 5 Steel Frost (Bet Now: $2.15) another chance. Has been beaten in both runs this time in but I think he has just gotten too far back each time. Resumed in the Matrice on Adelaide Cup Day and just got too far back in a slowly run race won by It’s Been A Battle. He then went to the Victoria Handicap at Caulfield and worked home with purpose behind Widgee Turf. Beautifully placed here, but needs to put the win on the board.
The scratchings really play into the hands of 8 Schism (Bet Now: $3.00) because she should get a very soft lead. Resumption behind Stellar Collision was solid before racing in the Gold Bracelet and running second to Miss Gunpowder. That form isn’t overly strong but she should be hard fit now and the map looks perfect for her.
Up to 1400m, don’t be shocked to see 10 Sudden Wealth (Bet Now: $8.50) run well. She ran over 1200m last Saturday where she really had no hope the way the race was run, suiting those on speed where she was last in the run. Excellent stats on the track and 1200m is short of her best. 1400m is ideal and should be hard fit.
Race 7. (16:41) Chairmans Stakes 2038m
1 Civil Disobedience (Bet Now: $5.50) for me in a tough race to sort out with confidence. In saying that, I thought this was one of the better runs from the Port Adelaide Guineas. Just had far too much to do from the back in a race dominated by those near the pace yet his effort from the back was great I thought. Proven 2000m+ horse and looks well placed up in trip.
If you are going on brilliance, 4 Leicester (Bet Now: $2.80) is the best horse in the race. Just all depends how he runs the ten furlongs. Did a power of work in the run in the Port Adelaide Guineas yet kept coming and his fourth behind Spring Choice was courageous I thought. If he can stretch his brilliance to 2000m, he’s the one to beat.
8 Box On Collins (Bet Now: $16.00) looks to be the one with upside and timing. Tony McEvoy trains this three year old, who is on the quick back up after winning the maiden last Friday night at Cranbourne over the mile, where he led all the way under a lovely front running steer from Regan Bayliss, who controlled things beautifully and kicked hard on the bend. No qualms with 2000m I think.
Race 8. (17:20) Murray & Barb Stewart 60th Anniversary Handicap (82) 1300m
6 Manuel (Bet Now: $3.20) for me. Tony McEvoy trains this four year old, who was a notable drifter in betting when resuming on the course proper a fortnight back but aided by a peach from Jamie Kah, the gelding finished best to score a narrow but impressive win. He is a second up winner and has raced well on the Parks track before.
3 Hussybay (Bet Now: $6.50) is going really well at the moment for the Mick Huxtable team and should run well despite coming back 300m in trip. He ran over the mile last time out and tried hard but just no match for the low flying Tatoosh. He has a great record on the Parks track and he will be strong late off a good speed.
10 Have Another Glass (Bet Now: $21.00) is too good of a mare to not include. Resumed three weeks back over 1200m on the course proper and for mine just looked in need of the run behind Mica Lil, who franked the form recently. In fact, that form overall has been very good. Two time winner here and I think up to 1300m should suit.
