Melbourne racing this Saturday heads to Moonee Valley where ten races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

VOBIS Gold Carat ๐: View the Field and Odds for the VOBIS Gold Carat
Race 1. (12:15) Bottle Stop (Bm70) 3000m
10 Bitcoin (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is the each way bet for me here. Lindsey Smith trained gelding that ran over 2500m here last time when off speed and chasing from the outset and was held up at times but got clear and found the line well enough in defeat behind Roaring Engine. 3000m should be fine and this isn’t a strong race.
6 Galilaeus (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) should love the rise to 3000m after resuming over 2500m here when chasing from a fair way out but ran through the pain barrier and closed strongly when beaten narrowly by Lavish Thinker. Like him up in trip and has good upside to come.
9 You Betcha Woo (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) lacks the class of some of these but should love the rise to 3000m I feel. He comes through the Lavish Thinker race where he tried to make a sustained run from off the speed but couldn’t quite finish it off. That said, he stayed on and was sound in defeat. Maps to do no work and be strong late.
Race 2. (12:45) Drummond Golf Hcp 1200m
4 Green Spaces (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) for me in what looks an open race for the babies. Son of Street Boss that is on debut for the James Cummings camp, a stable that is starting to hum with their juveniles. This guy did start life in Sydney before coming to Melbourne and his recent Benalla trial was good. Keen to see how he goes here.
1 Neverenoughlego (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has the race day experience on his side to command respect. He debuted at Ballarat a few weeks ago when chasing with purpose from off the speed but couldn’t quite reel in impressive debut winner Aleppo Pine. Has that race day experience under the belt, which holds him in good stead.
7 Tom (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a juvenile trained by Phillip Stokes and gee isn’t his 2YO’s running like they have wings. This guy has had two preps, one in the Spring, and this one, each time having two jumpouts and each time moving nicely. I think watch the market and see what it does.
Race 3. (13:20) Big Swing Golf (Bm70) 1500m
2 Georgie Get Mad (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Denis Pagan trains this mare, who is third up from a spell and should be ready to go. She ran over 1200m at Caulfield Heath last time out when off speed, chasing from a fair way out, and was never really a factor behind Thailess. Up to a more suitable trip, she can take this out, especially after the claim.
6 Boltsaver (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. He ran over 1200m at Caulfield Heath last time out when off the speed and worked home with purpose in a good effort in defeat I thought behind Thailess. Up in trip looks ideal and he does get B Shinn to steer.
5 Real Sensation (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome but he does like racing here and his best is more than good enough. He ran over the mile at Caulfield Heath last time out when back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat behind Dragoon.
Race 4. (13:55) Vobis Gold Carat 1200m
3 Acta Non Verba (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks a big price here I feel. He hasn’t raced since Derby Day when attempting to lead throughout and remember that meeting it was impossible to lead throughout with the stiff headwind. so forgive and forget. Fresh legs and back to 1200m, back miles in grade/depth, he takes beating I say.
1 Just For Show (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) comes back to 1200m and back to his own age after a strong win over 1500m in a Class 3, taking on the older horses and was strong in winning after sitting near the speed. Back to 1200m, so a good test here, but he does look a promising animal.
2 Stormbourg (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Pakenham where he got back off the speed and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Sweethearted. He has the finale to be dangerous.
Race 5. (14:30) Josh Freakeโs Bucks (Bm70) 1200m
1 Along The River (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is the each way play for me here in what looks an open contest. He ran over 1200m at Caulfield Heath last time out where he was off speed and chasing from the outset but credit to him, he kept finding the line in a really good effort behind Thailess. Has won here previously and should be around the mark. Each way for me.
All you can do is win and that is what 8 Mytemptation (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has done in two career outings. Sharp debut winner at Bairnsdale before going to Caulfield Heath where he was near the speed and I really like the way he knuckled down late to fend them off and win. Tricky draw, but hard to knock him.
11 Thailess (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) lands on the bunny and will take running down, as seen at Caulfield Heath last time when near the front, booting clear early on in the straight and she had enough in hand to win impressively. Harder here, but with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
Race 6. (15:05) Tour Edge (Bm70) 1000m
1 Fickle (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks the straight bat play. She is flying for Tom Dabernig, her latest win coming over this track/distance where she led throughout and had enough in hand. Tricky draw in the sense of hunting up to hold the lead, but hard to knock how well she is racing at present.
8 Mighty (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a Moody/Coleman trained mare that resumes. She is first up, with her last run coming at Sandown back in September when placing over 1000m behind impressive winner and Stakes class mare, Pharari. Looked sharp in a jumoout win and despite the tricky gate, commands respect.
3 Excess (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a beautifully bred mare for Julius Sandhu that resumes. She hasn’t raced since May 15 at Sandown when down the track behind a mare who was flying at the time, Little Miss Kubi. She does seem to go well on the fresh side, she has trialled nicely leading in and strikes a winnable race.
Race 7. (15:45) Ladbrokes Form Genius (Bm84) 1600m
7 Prince Eric (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks like he is enjoying life down under and appears to be one of the hardest to beat. He ran over the mile a few weeks ago at Ballarat when held up at times but he kept finding the line in a very good effort when third to Place Of Gold. Hard fit, and with clear air, he takes holding out.
9 Bon Mistress (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a beauty for Team Keys and rates highly. Loved the way she won two weeks back at Caulfield Heath, sitting on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away she went for a dominant win. Harder here, but hard to knock the way she’s racing.
10 Madame Odette (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps here. I thought she was an eye catcher first up at Caulfield before going to Ballarat a few weeks ago where she drew wide, got back to last and couldn’t get involved when down the track. Maps to settle much closer and her best is more than good enough.
Race 8. (16:20) Drummond Club (Bm70) 2040m
6 Pure Grunt (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is racing well for Team Keys and rates highly. He won at Caulfield Heath last time out, giving them a start and a beating in a very strong performance. That was over 1800m and off that, the rise to 2040m should be fine and is one of the leading contenders.
5 Mannerheim (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has the Waller polish and commands respect. He comes to Melbourne off the back of a dominant win at Wyong where he got into a lovely spot off the speed and once Berry asked for the effort, away he went and he was dominant. Tricky draw, but rates highly.
4 Kailash (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Both runs have come here, first up over the mile before going to this trip where he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Son Of Solly. Hard fit now and his best is clearly good enough.
Race 9. (17:00) Big Max Buggies (Bm100) 2040m
11 Promises Kept (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) ran well in the JRA Cup on Cox Plate Day at this track/distance and if he brings that effort here, I think he’s the one to beat. His last run came over 2400m at Caulfield where he tried hard but on testing ground, at that trip, he couldn’t finish the job. Much better set up here, happy to be in his corner.
2 Le Don De Vie (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) isn’t going too bad to my eye. Ciaron Maher trained gelding that ran a few weeks ago in the Zipping Classic. He got back in the run but was tracking with purpose and I thought was going to be right in the finish but when asked for the effort, the wheels were spinning. Firmer footing, he can bounce back.
7 Mankayan (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has to be given another look for Ciaron Maher. He comes through the Zipping Classic where he didn’t want a bar of the heavy ground and was never a factor, tailed off behind Arapaho. Prior efforts were sound and I do think on firmer footing, he can run a much improved race.
Race 10. (17:40) Bottle Stop After The Last (Bm78) 1200m
15 Fission (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) seems to be The Valley or bust and I actually think he’s racing like he will appreciate 1200m. He ran over 1100m at Ballarat last time when off the speed and held up at times but kept finding the line when eventually clear and was good in defeat. Maps to settle much closer and he does love racing here.
14 Apache Song (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is flying for Michael Trotter and commands respect. She has won her past two, both at this track/distance, firstly with B Shinn on when romping up. Adam McCabe got on last start and she had to dig in to get the win but credit to her, she did. Confident she measures up.
11 Flying Mikki (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has to be given another look. Market liked him at Caulfield Heath last time but he lost both his front shoes and he couldn’t quite finish his race off in defeat behind Thailess when fourth. Glue on shoes now to help his cause and gets the senior jock on. Dangerous.
