There doesn’t look to be a great deal of value on the card but there are some good quality small fields with favourites that look very hard to beat so the short odds may be worth taking.

Back Me: Pounamu (Best Odds: $3.80) i thought put in the run of the race in the Spring Stakes which looks the form race for this. He was checked around the turn then held up only getting out late and flashing home to run second behind Sweynesse.
Big Danger: Sweynesse (Best Odds: $2.20) won the Spring Stakes at Newcastle last start and he will go into Saturday unbeaten from three starts. He definitely looks the horse to beat although i think Pounamu will turn the tables on him but the pair should run first and second.
Roughie: Happy to forgive Road To Shangri La (Best Odds: $17.00) on his last run because the start before that he was very good in winning. He had excuses last time out and i think the extra distance will definitely suit him so his odds looks good value in a small field.

Race Two (13:15) : Colin Stephen Qlty 2400m Form Guide
Back Me: I hate saying this but Travolta (Best Odds: $4.20) i think will be able to get an easy time in front here so being able to dictate the race should see him winning. He pulled up lame last start so there were excuses and this looks a very winnable race for him in not such a great field.
Big Danger: I was disappointed with Multilateral‘s (Best Odds: $4.20) run in the Newcastle Cup where he was favourite. The race wasn’t really set-up for those at the back and despite this race looking like it won’t either it isn’t the toughest of fields and he is arguably the best horse in the race.
Roughie: Celtic Prince (Best Odds: $8.50) is coming through perhaps the best form races despite being beaten by decent margins his form is pretty good when compared to the other runners. The step up in distance will certainly help his chances and i think at close to double figure odds in the small field he represents great each way value.

Race Three (13:50) : Bacardi Reginald Allen Qlty 1400m Form Guide
Back Me: Dynamic Rock (Best Odds: $8.00) i think is a better horse on top of the ground which she will get on Saturday. Last start i thought she won purely on ability and she finds a very winnable city race here. She has the ability to go forward or back which is a big plus here as the speed of the race is very hard to access so at the value she goes on top.
Big Danger: If Donelle (Best Odds: $7.50) can put in a run like she did in the Magic Night Stakes she will be winning this but her three starts since haven’t shown a lot. She has to be included but she will need to be at her best to be winning.
Roughie: Muscovado has won her last two starts quite well and will be looking for a hat trick on Saturday which she can certainly do and at double figure odds in the market she looks overs.

Race Four (14:25) : R4 Smoothfm (bm85) 1900m Form Guide
Back Me: Foreign Prince (Best Odds: $2.70) gets into the weights really well with the three kilo claim and he finds a pretty quick Saturday city race. Despite thinking he is better on a rain affected track which i doubt he will get on Saturday he has the class to beat these and he is the horse on the way up so there should still be improvement in him. He will start pretty short in betting but i can’t see any of these testing him.
Big Danger: Kourkam (Best Odds: $1.00) is an imported galloper in the Tony McEvoy stable and he has been well backed at ever one of his Australian starts suggesting the stable has a good opinion of him. He comes out of a weak race but the step up in distance will definitely see him improve and he looks the only danger to the favourite and our on top runner.
Roughie: Whisperossa (Best Odds: $17.00) two starts ago did a lot wrong and wasn’t beaten far by a good quality galloper in the way of Rock Sturdy. He gets into the weights here at 52kg which will put him right into contention and at the big odds he is worthy of an each way ticket or atleast a horse you must include into your multiples.

Race Five (15:05) : Stan Fox Stakes 1500m Form Guide
Back Me: Scissor Kick (Best Odds: $2.00) i thought put in the run of the race in the Group 1 Golden Rose last start when running wide throughout he was still able to kick very well in the straight and was only just run down by a very good horse. He meets his opposition at level weights here and the step up in distance should suit him based on his last run and he will be very hard to beat with a good run in transit which he should from barrier four.
Big Danger: Shooting To Win (Best Odds: $3.20) finished his race off strongly in the Golden Rose and that looks by far the best form race heading into this. His run in the Ming Dynasty again was very good and going off those two runs the increase in distance will see him get better and he looks the obvious danger to the favourite.
Roughie: Bachman (Best Odds: $51.00) didn’t have a lot go right for him in the Golden Rose and he was outclassed in the end. The top two here look well above the rest but i think he can sneak into the placings with a better run from barrier two.

Race Six (15:45) : Betting Season Shannon Stakes 1500m Form Guide
Back Me: Best Case (Best Odds: $16.00) didn’t have any chance last start with the way the race was run so he was very good making up ground late in a race dictated by those at the front. He finds an easier field here and the extra distance will suit. He may need this run under his belt to be at his best but i think at the weights and from the barrier he will still be very hard to beat at good each way odds.
Big Danger: Rock Sturdy (Best Odds: $3.20) looks the horse to beat in the race but he is at pretty skinny odds in what is a pretty open race. He always races well and is never far away, he was beaten as a short priced favourite last start but the winner had all the favours in the race and was a very good horse who looks to have bounced back. This is a very winnable race for him but i think he may be under the odds.
Roughie: Kirramosa (Best Odds: $14.00) has been ticking a long nicely this preparation and every step up in distance will see her getting better. She is a quality mare who i think will go very close in this race despite needing further. She is at good each way odds and has to be included.

Back Me: Chris Waller once again has placed Catkins (Best Odds: $1.60) perfectly and she finds another very winnable race on Saturday. She will carry the top weight but i can’t see any of these beaten her in the race and taking the short odds looks a safe bet.
Big Danger: Arabian Gold (Best Odds: $7.00) won’t be clicked up on Saturday and she will need further but she looks the only horse with enough class to beat the odds on favourite here. Watch for her running on late and if a few of the other horses soften up Catkins she may cause an upset.
Roughie: Chintz (Best Odds: $41.00) got back in the Sheraco Stakes and made decent ground late, the extra distance will see her improve and she looks the only horse out of the top two who could possible go close in the race.

Back Me: Mahara (Best Odds: $8.50) will need luck but i think she is the horse to beat in an open field. She has a good first up record and i thought her run two starts ago in Aspiration Quality was excellent making up good ground in a race she wasn’t required to do so. It will take a good ride from Shinn but he is in very good form lately and should be able to give her every chance.
Big Danger: First Class Ticket i thought was very unlucky last start where she should have probably won the race. She is weighted very well here and has drawn a good barrier so she has to be included at very good odds.
Roughie: Order Of The Sun (Best Odds: $21.00) i think is way over the odds, he has a perfect record first up winning two from two and he has had two trials this time in so he should be quite forward come Saturday. He will go forward in the race and he will be doing his best work late.
