27/2/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sunshine Coast, Tattersall’s Members Cup day

Nine races will be run and won at the Sunshine Coast this Saturday where it is Tatts Members Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

10 Mosshiki (Bet Now: $7.50) has an awful winning strike rate but I reckon he is going well for Rob Heathcoate. He ran over the mile at Eagle Farm three weeks ago where he was back last in a sit/sprint but picked up and was really good late in the piece behind Quality Approach. Think he’s hard to beat back to this sort of level.

8 Wolf Moon (Bet Now: $4.20) is an interesting runner. Billy Healey trains this three year old, who comes here off the back of a dominant win over 1350m at Doomben when leading throughout and giving his rivals a galloping lesson in an impressive bounce back after a somewhat disappointing first up effort. 1600m should be fine and is a key threat.

You always have to give a bit extra to the Sunny Coast runners on their home track so respecting 3 Redstone (Bet Now: $23.00) at odds. Ran over this track/distance last Friday night when back off the speed in the small field and it was just an odd ride from Tiff Brooker. Very negative and left the gelding with too much to do when a closing second. His best is good enough to run well.

Think the rise to 1800m is ideal for 11 Blue Comet (Bet Now: $17.00), who has done little wrong since joining Trevor Thomas. Ran over 1400m here last time out and really attacked the line late, just missing out on picking up Extreme Jewel. He is a winner at this track/distance and has more upside than most.

1 Guise (Bet Now: $6.00) makes a return to Queensland, where her career began and at the time she looked an Oaks filly. Hasn’t gone on with it since but has been a solid campaigner for Chris Waller for a number of seasons. Returns to the sunshine state and she finds a very winnable race here.

5 Lucky Jackson (Bet Now: $18.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over the mile at the Sunny Coast where he sat off the speed and closed off well, not beaten far by an in form Star Of Michelin. He can be hard to trust, but his last couple of runs have suggested a win might not be far away.

1 Glorious Ruby (Bet Now: $3.40) is a ripper for Bryan Dais. She is just so genuine, puts herself near the speed and loves to dig in and have a go. Was 1200m back to 1050m at Doomben a fortnight ago but it mattered not to her because she was dominant in the run to the line. Just has to hold her form and she wins again.

2 Sweet Dolly (Bet Now: $1.65) is unbeaten in two career outings for Kevin Hansen that is first up here, having not raced since taking out the Calaway Gal. Yes, it was a Stakes win, but the form out of it has been ordinary, so the jury is somewhat out on her, but you don’t know how good a horse is til they are beaten.

4 Le Rubis (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Chris Anderson trained filly that comes here off the back of a maiden win over 800m at Ipswich, where she had inside advantage and more often than not, having that at that start is a recipe for success. Harder here, but Rodd sticks and outside the first two, the depth is thin.

2 Cochrane (Bet Now: $2.20) looks the obvious. Started life with Team Snowden but is now with Tony Gollan and returns to racing as a gelding. Hasn’t raced since Boxing Day when down the track behind Rocket Tiger at Randwick, who is a very smart juvenile and is a contender for the Slipper. One trial to get ready and on form, has a bit on these.

4 I’ve Bean There (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained juvenile that is first up on his home track. He got a fair way back off them in the run but loved the way he found the line at the end when second to Ghostwriter, who was far from disgraced in the Golden Gift, so the form reads well and can settle much closer in the run this time around.

3 Gemelon Bolt (Bet Now: $6.00) looks to have a decent engine under the hood and can give this a shake. Debuted two weeks ago at Doomben when on speed and showing good fight. Just had had no answers for Glorious Ruby, who is a ripping filly and is one of the top seeds for this Jewel race in a couple of weeks time. Reads well for this.

Class, I think, gets 1 Kisukano (Bet Now: $2.90) home. Talented filly for Mick Nolan that hasn’t raced since resuming in the Nudgee at Eagle Farm when backed as if unbeatable but failed to fire a shot and was quite disappointing behind Athiri. Back to this level, and even with the weight, on form, she’s clearly the one to beat.

5 Simply Fly (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Rex Lipp trained three year old that is several weeks between runs since scoring an impressive finale from off the speed to get up and win a similar race at the Sunny Coast, producing some of the better late splits of the meeting. He’s a line chaser and has a good winning strike rate. Happy to include him.

1000m is on the short side for 4 Tumbler Ridge (Bet Now: $26.00) but he does have class. Resumes for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp, having not raced since the Winter Carnival when placing over 1400m here behind Plutocrat. Trialled well enough here and will be strong late off a more than genuine tempo.

Very tricky race to sort out this one. 1000m is on the short side for 8 Amicitia (Bet Now: $13.00), but she’s a pretty reliable mare who runs honestly each time she steps out and think she will be strong at the end here with a stack of early speed engaged. Usually sprints well fresh and liked the way she trialled recently.

2 Howwonderfullifeis (Bet Now: $5.00) is one of the class runners of the field and comes here in winning form after getting the job done at the midweeks at Doomben, lumping the big weight and finishing best in a close go. She was only second up there, so you’d like to think there is room for improvement.

10 Defence Missile (Bet Now: $46.00) would love a drop of rain to hit the track, because that will certainly enhance his claims. Month between runs since racing at this track/distance and working home okay late without threatening behind Air Spirit. Think he’s going well and is a knockout chance.

I’m with 7 Gem Of Scotland (Bet Now: $3.70). Would be a great story if she can return to racing a winner. Tailed off last in the 3YO Jewel last year at the Gold Coast, where she was found to have sustained a nasty injury to her Pelvis. Has been given nearly 12 months off, nursed back to health and thought her recent trial was solid enough to suggest she can resume a winner.

4 Run For Glory (Bet Now: $5.00) is a beauty for Tony Gollan that resumes. He really came of age when last in work, winning five on the bounce and often we see, horses that go for a spell off a win, come back and resume with a win. 2/2 at the track, trialled well and won’t mind a drop of rain.

Best version of 6 Epic Girl (Bet Now: $8.50) is more than capable. Chris Anderson trained mare that has been freshened up, having not raced since January 2 at Eagle Farm when close up behind Macewen. Tick over trial win last Tuesday was a nice piece of work and we know her best is good enough to beat these.

I reckon 6 Victory Eight (Bet Now: $21.00) is a great bet here. IMO, a measuring stick for this horse and how well he is going is when he races well away from his home track, here. He was very good late in the piece at Doomben two weeks ago behind an in form Socialising. Like him up to the mile, fitter, saves his best for the home track…he only runs well.

2 Ligulate (Bet Now: $2.70) is an absolute beauty for Cody Morgan. He is loving life in Queensland and what is keeping him winning is his change up speed. It’s just too good for what he has been facing. This is a good test for him here, and the forecast for rain isn’t ideal, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.

Not sure 1 Alward (Bet Now: $35.00) wins, but is a must for exotics I feel. Resumed over 1350m at Doomben where he was back near last in the run and worked home okay without threatening behind Socialising, but it was a definite pass mark. Gets a better scenario this time around and is a knockout chance.

16 Scottish Mist (Bet Now: $4.20) looks hard to beat here for the Rob Heathcoate camp. Looked in trouble early on in the straight at Doomben last time but she surged really hard late to get up on the peg and beat Good Chat, a progressive three year old. Bigger track, up to 1400m, she’s likeable.

14 Lunar Light (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Team Guy trained mare that is racing really well at the moment. Four weeks between runs since recording an impressive win at this track/distance when proving too good late, just, for Pull Anchor. Been kept up to the mark with a nice trial and is a leading contender.

2 Dio D’Oro (Bet Now: $9.50) saves his best for when he gets his toe in, so wetter the better for him. Sat near the speed at Doomben last time before angling into clear air and finishing best to win and win impressively. If this track is genuinely wet, I think he’s one of the hardest to beat.

BEST BET: Race Four Number 2 Cochrane

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 1 Kisukano

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 6 Victory Eight
