27/11/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, City Of Marion Stakes day

Blacktype racing returns to Morphettville this Saturday for City Of Marion Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Last Tuesday here saw a few 2YO jumpouts. The one that looked the best to my eye was the winner of Heat 1, 6 Celtic Vader (Bet Now: $4.00). Showed brilliant early toe to lead comfortably by a space and just kept running under minimal pressure, spanking her rivals. Off that, with gate one, she’ll do me.

4 Spencer’s Spirit (Bet Now: $2.40) looks the next best. 2/2 from jumpouts so he’s had a good grounding for his debut and he looked to move quite well in his heat win last Tuesday. The knock is the stable. Unfashionable when it comes to early juveniles, but this gelding looks smart.

3 Monseagle (Bet Now: $15.00) can be an improver. Comfortably held by Spencer’s Spirit in that jumpout mentioned above but a tick for him is that when pressure was applied, he did respond and found the line okay. From the jumpout, gets a significant jockey upgrade and stable should always be respected with their youngsters.

8 Speed Lover (Bet Now: $1.60) has done little wrong in two career outings for the McEvoy camp and commands respect here. Both runs have come over 1000m at Ballarat, placing each time, the latest being a third, a well held third, after starting $1.55. SP Profile is strong and stable runners generally go better when they get sent to SA from Victoria.

9 Squeaky Gate (Bet Now: $6.50) looks a jump/run type for Karen Byrnes, which is a good recipe for these kind of maidens. Debuted over 1000m at Murray Bridge when on speed and sticking on well to run third. Not sure she’s good enough to win a Saturday metro maiden, but a first four threat.

10 Starlite Rebel (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Reward For Effort filly for Kym Healy that is on debut. This girl trialled at Oakbank earlier this week and looked to go about her business in okay order without jumping up and down. Not sure I could back her to win, but I think she’s one for multiples.

2 Lady Dunmore (Bet Now: $3.50) is a talented mare for Phillip Stokes that commands respect. Ran on the Parks track a few back where she got a fair way out of her ground but really liked the way she finished her race off and clocked good late splits behind Tommy Blue. Hard to beat if she can sit closer in the run.

Fitter and up in trip are two big ticks for 1 Kayseri (Bet Now: $3.80). Resumed three weeks ago over 1000m on the Parks track and just looked like he needed the run behind dominant winner Chosen Blonde. Normally gets better as the prep goes on, so might need one more, but appears well graded here.

4 Love Magic (Bet Now: $31.00) hasn’t really measured up in town before, but the recent form around him is okay. Last run was over a month ago at Naracoorte when far from disgraced in defeat when second to Wild Willy, a horse who has won again since and one day will be a metro horse, so I think the form is solid enough for this kind of race.

The jockey upgrade, fitter, I’m keen to give 13 Keep Reading (Bet Now: $2.80) another chance. Ben Price just rode him a bit cute I thought fresh on the Parks track and left his run too late when a narrow second to Rodeo, who ran well at the Valley last Friday night, so I like the form, and fitter, onto the course proper, down in the weights, he’s hard to beat.

9 Smokin’ Val (Bet Now: $6.00) is certainly capable if she produced anywhere near her best. Hasn’t really shown it this time in but this is a much easier race from her latest start, which was in the Alinghi on Caulfield Cup Day when down the track behind Mileva. Tick over jumpout was solid…I’d watch the market and see what it does with her.

12 Zoulah (Bet Now: $19.00) is a very interesting runner. Talented mare for Will Clarken that resumes and is having her first run for the new camp. As we say time and time again, this stable is one of the best in the business at improving a tried horse. Short sample size re this mare, but I was taken by her recent trial. If the market likes her, she comes here expected to run a very positive race.

1 Hypercane (Bet Now: $4.60) has come back in really good order and third up from a break, looks ready to win. Ran over 1400m on the Parks track a few weeks ago and took an eternity to wind up. He looked the winner when looming to the front but was nabbed on the peg by Perfect Command. Hard fit now, he’ll take a power of beating.

3 Echo Boomer (Bet Now: $5.00) is three weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track. Did plenty of work on speed and was entitled to knock up but she kept kicking under pressure and for a few strides, looked home, but was nabbed late by Perfect Command. Hard to beat if that hasn’t busted her.

7 Rapid Raiser (Bet Now: $10.00) is a proven metro performer and now he’s found winning form, now seems the right time to have another crack. Well tried favourite when racing last Wednesday at Strathalbyn and the market got it spot on as he came with a well timed run under Stubby to nail them and was impressive. If he brings that here, he’s in the mix.

1 Canford (Bet Now: $4.20) looks ready to win now. Ryan Balfour trained gelding that doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but no doubting his staying prowess at this level and up to 2500m, hard fit, this looks his race. Just lost sight of the bunny last time but was good late behind Nobel Heights. His racing pattern doesn’t help him, but if he’s within range 400m out, he wins.

2 Exalted Ambition (Bet Now: $4.20) has been up forever it seems like for Grant Young but he continues to race at a good level. Narrow second at this track/distance on Cup Day before going to the 2250m on the Parks track where he loomed to win but lacked the class to match it with Nobel Heights. If he holds his form, he’ll take beating here.

6 Ourkhani (Bet Now: $7.50) is honest and should be around the mark for Team Jolly. He ran behind Nobel Heights two weeks back on the Parks track. He was one paced and lacked any turn of foot but stayed on and was sound in defeat. Doubt he wins, but one for multiples.

8 Comfort Girl (Bet Now: $3.20) is bursting to win a race for Shayne Cahill. Was quite keen on her a fortnight back on the Parks track and she looked the winner when she presented. Loomed but had to settle for a narrow second to Brazen Force, lodging an unsuccessful protest to rub salt into the wound. Flying, deserves a win and gets another chance here.

4 Swiss Hero (Bet Now: $2.70) has the Archie Alexander polish and the Victorian raiders should always be respected when they come to SA. This guy was a strong winner at the Bool last start, showing good change up speed over 1700m and winning impressively. Confident he measures up here.

10 Victory Bandit (Bet Now: $8.00) had taken an eternity to get the maiden win on the board and it finally came over 1800m at Murray Bridge last time. The win had merit given she had to make a sustained run out wide and though she looked out of petrol tickets late, she found and kicked hard to win. Harder here, but now she has won, she can go on with it.

8 Rock Of Ring (Bet Now: $2.70) has been a revelation in recent times for the McEvoy camp. Has won three on the bounce and each time he has been really impressive, with two of the wins coming at this track/distance in good time. Good test for him here, but confident he can measure up.

12 Trip (Bet Now: $7.00) has well and truly earned a crack at some blacktype. Win of the meeting from her two weeks ago on the Parks track, leading throughout and running very sharp time relative to the day. She has always threatened to get to this level and now seems the right time.

Looks to be good speed in this race, which I think suits 15 Outlaws Revenge (Bet Now: $8.00). He resumed on the Parks track three weeks ago over 1000m. Just found them a bit sharp but was good late when second to Tequila Time. Fitter and up to 1200m, sitting off a good speed, he’ll be strong at the end.

6 Sidearm (Bet Now: $3.00) for me. Former John O’Shea galloper that had his first run for Will Clarken on Cup Day here. He was as short as $1.60, but the drift was alarming, getting towards $3. He had a suck run and when presented, loomed to win, but he must have known the market drift because despite looking the winner, he couldn’t quite get past Aston Rapova. He’ll come on from that and is very hard to beat here.

2 Hello Ladies (Bet Now: $3.30) is one of the hardest to beat. Shayne Cahill trained gelding that is four weeks between runs since racing over 1100m on the course proper here. He was badly held up at a vital stage and I think with a clear path in the straight, he wins when second to Calypso Reign. That form clearly reads well for this.

14 Storm Voyager (Bet Now: $13.00) has been given a mini freshen up, having not raced since Cup Day where she seemingly had every chance just off the speed and battled on okay when a close up fourth to handy mare Diamonds. Tends to race well with fresh legs and generally runs a positive race at this track. One for exotics.
