Eight races have been set down for Sandown Lakeside on Monday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

The safe option looks to be 8 Queen Of Rocks (Bet Now: $2.60) for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This girl debuted in the Debutant at Caulfield and closed off strongly at the end to run third to Tanker. Blinkers go on for the resumption, trialled well at Tatura leading and that Tanker form does look one of the stronger form references for the Melbourne juveniles.

Danger

6 Kartini Day (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Kermadec filly for the Ellerton/Zahra stable that is on debut. Still looks to have a bit to learn if her recent Flemington jumpout is any guide, but overall, looked to move well with something in hand to the eye. Few unknowns in this race, including this girl, so I think watch the market and see if it likes her or not.

Long Shot

Very wary of 2 Art Glass (Bet Now: $11.00), a Sebring filly on debut for Grahame Begg. She trialled a couple of weeks back at Pakenham when back in the field before being asked to respond and did so in an encouraging trial performance. Has an inside gate to sit near the speed and always have to respect the stable with their first starters.

In the corner of 4 Ellis Park (Bet Now: $5.00), who is on debut for Mark Kavanagh. This bloke has had two jumpouts in readiness for his debut, including an all the way win in solid time and seemingly did it with something in reserve, which is a good sign. Williams on, expecting him to roll forward from the wide gate and prove hard to beat.

Danger

8 Prosecutor (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Shea Eden trained colt that has finished runner up in both career outings, each coming over 1300m at Cranbourne. Latest run saw him a little unlucky in the straight but overall, thought he had his chance to win when second to Strike A Beau. He’ll pick a maiden off…not sure it’s here, but has the recent runs on the board, so he’s in the mix.

Long Shot

Big watch on the Team Hawkes trained first up runner 5 Holster (Bet Now: $7.50). Hasn’t raced since debuting on the Hillside course back in September when just being fair, finishing midfield. Tipped out soon after and loved the way he looked in a recent jumpout. The knock is it was one soft jumpout in slow time, so fitness levels are unknown.

3 Blow Torch (Bet Now: $3.90) on top in what looks a race in two IMO. Disappointing third as an odds on pop fresh at Gawler before going to Murray Bridge and loved the way he closed his race off when fourth to Wonderful Riri, with the form around that Paul Preusker runner being very good. Third up at 1600m, he looks really hard to beat.

Danger

4 Bet Red (Bet Now: $3.20) is the one on the up for the Price/Kent team. Was nearly a year between runs when resuming over 1400m at Geelong and given the set up, it was the win of the day, charging home from the back and bolted in despite doing a bit wrong. Gets the claim for Stockdale with gate one, has plenty going for him.

Long Shot

8 High Beam (Bet Now: $4.60) is an honest mare for the Ellerton/Zahra stable but is just struggling to put a win on the board this time in. Ran over 1400m at Cranbourne last time out when on speed and fighting on well but couldn’t finish it off when fourth to Necessary. Lands near the speed here and if the track is suiting those near the front, she’s a knockout chance.

Race 4. (14:45) Le Pine Funerals Handicap 1400m

Back Me

Bit of a throw at the stumps here in the shape of 1 Sizzleme (Bet Now: $7.50) for the Cindy Alderson stable, which is absolutely flying at the moment. This mare resumed over 1400m at Caulfield and on face value, didn’t do a great deal, but her late splits weren’t too bad. Prefer her on the bigger track, fitter and finds a very winnable race.

Danger

3 Ice Girl (Bet Now: $9.50) hasn’t won in nearly a year but I reckon Tom Hughes has her flying and a win isn’t far away. Ran over 1400m at Cranbourne last time out when ridden for luck back in the run and got the breaks late, charging home to run a close up third to Necessary. Can sit closer in the run if need be and that was her first up, in around a month, so she has room for improvement.

Long Shot

12 Relette (Bet Now: $17.00) has to improve a bit on what she produced to break the maiden tag at Cranbourne last time, but there are a few here that haven’t won in a long time and she’s a last start winner, which was over 1400m and really liked the way she knuckled down to get the job done when challenged. Harder here, but is a last start winner and can press forward.

Race 5. (15:20) The Big Screen Company Handicap

2 Antagoniser (Bet Now: $3.10) is one of two gallopers I’m quite keen on at this meeting. Mark Kavanagh trains this colt, who ran over 1400m at Flemington last time out when specked at odds and the mini plunge almost came off. Took a classy one in Rubisaki to get past him. That form clearly reads well for this, gets gate one and up to the mile, I like him alot.

Danger

1 Think ‘N’ Fly (Bet Now: $4.80) is a son of So You Think for the Hayes/Dabernig team that is racing well. Thought there was plenty of merit in his win at this track/distance last time out given he had to do a bit of work early to find a spot yet was still strongest on the line in winning. More depth here, and a tricky gate, but hard to knock the win, especially with the form out of it being good.

Long Shot

Interested in 7 Confusion (Bet Now: $15.00) for Matty Williams. Had jumped out well prior to resuming at Geelong over 1300m and really liked the way he attacked the line after being held up early on in the straight. Off that, he should have no trouble with 1600m. The gate does makes things tricky, but he has enormous upside.

Race 6. (16:00) Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap 2100m

6 Grand Promenade (Bet Now: $2.50) is the other one I really like for this meeting. Think he has plenty more to offer and despite coming straight to town from a maiden win, I think he can take the leap successfully. The maiden win came at Warrnambool over 1700m and he really put them away impressively when asked. Should eat up 2100m and finds a winnable city race.

Danger

2 Igniter (Bet Now: $4.20) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates, but gee he tries hard for Robbie Griffiths and is clearly knocking on the door to win one. Thought it would come last start at Flemington but he couldn’t quite get past Donndubhan in a tight go to the line. Little query at 2100m, but drops a fair bit in overall depth.

Long Shot

Rhys Archard has 7 Etna (Bet Now: $27.00) going pretty well I think. On the quick back up after racing last Sunday at Werribee where the track was quite firm and he was back on a day where making up significant ground was a task so I want to be forgiving of that effort behind Budd Fox. If this track had give in it, I’d be happy to bet at the big odds, but on a firm deck, just prefer him for multiple purposes.

12 Thunderdome (Bet Now: $4.00) is another who isn’t a fan of greeting the judge first, but this race just sets up perfectly for him. Team Corstens trains this gelding, who ran over 1400m at Caulfield just over three weeks ago where he was a bit one paced when the sprint went on but was sound late behind Saucy Jack. Johnny Allen remains on and Blinkers are on first time. If he can use that gate to advantage, he’ll take a power of beating.

Danger

13 Wham (Bet Now: $4.60) is racing well for Michael Moroney without winning. He comes back to 1400m after racing over the mile here last time out where he loomed to win after getting a good run just off the speed but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Think ‘N’ Fly. Back to 1400m, senior rider back on and Blinkers first time, he’s primed to run a beauty.

Long Shot

Mark Lewis has 6 The Card Players (Bet Now: $7.50) flying this time in. Loved the way he found the line first up at the Valley behind Reward With Return before racing over 1200m here where he was tucked in behind the speed, got out, surged, looked home, but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Banger. Good record at 1400m and potentially rolls forward.

Race 8. (17:20) Ladbrokes Cash Out Handicap 1200m

Back Me

1 Bold Arial (Bet Now: $6.00) for me. Been hot on her all prep after an outstanding jumpout. Forget she went around first up at Caulfield. Then dropped back to country grade at Echuca where she sat back off the speed before peeling wider and really finished off with purpose under Meech to win. Should be hard fit now and against the mares, she’s a leading chance.

Danger

8 Peko (Bet Now: $7.00) is getting towards peak fitness now for Colin Little so I think she should be respected against these. Market said she’d need the run first up at Pakenham and that’s how it panned out before going to Mornington when on speed and just feeling the pinch late behind a handy one in Bricktop. Against the mares, third up with Willow on, she’s likeable.

Long Shot

The value in the race certainly lies with the Mitch Beer trained 11 Sky Call (Bet Now: $14.00), a mare who hasn’t raced since Boxing Day when closing off pretty well late at Caulfield behind News Girl, who franked that form by winning again on Saturday. Lane is on from a soft gate and she does have good change up speed when she gets conditions to suit.
