26/9/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

The Parks track at Morphettville will play host to a solid nine event meeting this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

3 Bottom Line (Bet Now: $8.00) looks above average for Phillip Stokes and I think he can make it 2/2. Debuted over 1200m at Murray Bridge where he was one of the first off the bit but he kept finding under pressure and as the race went further, he got better and surged hard late to win. Not the strongest Saturday race this overall, so I’ll give him a chance.

4 Quietly Discreet (Bet Now: $1.60) is the one to beat on current form but could I take $1.65? No way. She was $7 when finally showing on raceday what she had been showing at the trials, which was above average ability, and she bolted in. If she produces that again, likely wins, but happy to watch her go around and bet elsewhere at the short odds she is.

Fitter and up to 1250m look two big ticks for the Jon O’Connor trained three year old 1 Great Leveller (Bet Now: $4.40). Resumed over 1000m here three weeks ago where he was wide no cover on speed for the trip but kept battling away and was more than sound in defeat behind Mileva. Up to 1250m I like and is a knockout chance.

Pretty keen here on 6 Sign Of Ussuri (Bet Now: $1.75) for the McEvoy camp. Had a six week freshen up prior to racing over 1250m here back on August 29 where he didn’t have the speed in the legs to go with them but was working home well late. He’ll love the rise to 1550m and the depth here doesn’t appear to be overly strong.

Fitter and up to 1550m are two big ticks for the Team Jolly trained gelding 1 Regalo Di Gaetano (Bet Now: $3.80). Resumed over 1200m on the course proper here two weeks ago and liked the way he found the line in the straight when fifth to Alsvior. Not a great second up record, but does tend to save his best for the Parks track.

Fitter and up to 1550m helps the cause of 2 Charossa (Bet Now: $9.50), who finished down the track in that Alsvior race mentioned above. He was back near last in the run and didn’t really figure at all in a disappointing return. Much better suited this time around and his best is good enough to measure up to these.

Back home in SA, I think 1 So You Can (Bet Now: $2.05) can bounce back into the winners list. Was keen on him when he raced at Flemington two weeks ago, but IMO, he was just outclassed and had every chance behind Crosshaven. Think 1550m will be idea for this Macdonald/Gluyas three year old and has the quality to put them away.

5 The Olympian (Bet Now: $7.50) commands some respect here. Team McEvoy trained three year old that broke his maiden status at Murray Bridge last time out, doing work in the run and was there to be run down, but found plenty and was too good, beating home Meadows Young Buck, who bolted up last weekend, so the form reads well.

Little query at 1550m with 7 Lady Dunmore (Bet Now: $11.00) but she does appear to have good ability. Both runs back from a spell have come at Gawler, resuming with a placing over 1100m before going to 1200m where she didn’t exactly ping when asked but found and was able to win. Stable is flying so has to be respected.

I think this is good placement by Mick Huxtable when it comes to 1 Ritratto (Bet Now: $9.00). I was keen on him being a SA Derby horse last prep, but he didn’t quite measure up and was spelled. The resumption was just fair, borderline plain behind Alsvior. Could have gone around in the 2MW race earlier, but stable send him to this weaker target, likely to try and get a confidence boost. Anything near his best, he bolts in.

5 Exalted Traveller (Bet Now: $3.60) is on the quick back up for the Grant Young team after racing on the course proper here last Saturday. Did a bit of work to find the front but Pannell got control and he gave a really good kick. Just the last 50m he got the staggers and tired to run fourth. Back in trip is ideal and he’ll give plenty of cheek.

3 Galahad Guru (Bet Now: $3.90) can bounce back. Macdonald/Gluyas trained gelding that was 1250m to the mile when down the track behind Lord Vladivostok, but was far from disgraced in defeat I thought given the less than ideal set up for the 1600m contest. Now has that run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead.

Does class get 1 Parsifal (Bet Now: $5.00) home? Will Clarken trained gelding who hasn’t raced since the Autumn Carnival when down the track in the McKay behind subsequent multiple Group l winner Behemoth. Has had two jumpouts to get ready for his return and even though he has 61.5kg, he does have class/quality on these.

Bob Richard has 2 Star Hills (Bet Now: $3.50) absolutely flying at the moment. He has won three on end, the latest coming at Murray Bridge on August 8 when sitting just off the speed and when Stubby peeled wider, he finished best and was too good, defying a notable betting drift. Good test here, but think he’s up to it.

5 Celtic Blast (Bet Now: $12.00) is three weeks between runs for the Ashton Downing stable since racing at this track/distance when near the speed throughout and tried hard, but was clearly no match for the turn of foot Seemingly Discreet produced. Good winning strike rate and overall, this isn’t an overly strong race.

8 Tatalina (Bet Now: $2.15) is hard to beat. She ran over 1950m on the Parks track three weeks ago and was enormous in defeat after sitting four wide down the side and pouring the pressure on, with the bob of the head splitting her from defeat and victory. Hard to beat, but just want to see what the market does first.

1 Bertwhistle (Bet Now: $6.00) is an absolute beauty for the Darryl Dodson team. Ran over 2500m on the course proper here two weeks ago where she was made to carry the topweight due to a strong tempo, but she ran through the pain barrier and in survival of the fittest, she was too good. I think if she is to win, the tempo needs to be genuine and not a sit/sprint.

6 Franked (Bet Now: $21.00) can be hit and miss, but stable is going well and he finds a really winnable race here if he found anything near his best. Forget he went around behind Bertwhistle last time out. Tempo was too hot and he was run off his legs from the outset. Overly, this race isn’t strong, so think he’s a knockout chance.

8 The Difference (Bet Now: $2.35) has plenty of ability and he looks hard to beat. McEvoy trained gelding that has won his past two, the latest coming four weeks ago here over 1250m when producing really good change up speed to win well. Was down to run last Wednesday at Bendigo but was a late scratching, so I think watch the market.

4 Alsvior (Bet Now: $4.00) is racing in a real purple patch at the moment for the Jaensch team and I think he can win again, to make it four from his last five. Last start came two weeks ago on the course proper here when given a lovely ride from gate one under Gatt and once he found clear air, it was race over and he bolted in. He can repeat the dose for sure.

The quick back up is interesting with the Will Clarken trained 3 Silverhawk (Bet Now: $11.00). Ran over 1100m on the course proper last Saturday when wide no cover on speed and battled away pretty well I thought behind the in form Thompson’s Reward. If he can get better luck this time around, he’s certainly up to these.

4 Groot (Bet Now: $5.00) is bursting to win another race for Phillip Stokes and I think he gets a golden chance here. Hasn’t raced since August 31 on the Pakenham Synthetic when just off the speed and held up. Got clear and surged hard late to miss out on the win before firing in an unsuccessful protest. Finds a very winnable race here and am in his corner.

12 Fearless Vision (Bet Now: $4.80) is a daughter of Bull Point for Michael Hickmott that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since May 23 at Murray Bridge when near the speed and battled away okay without threatening behind Winning Weather. Stable is flying this season and they have been getting them ready for a first up win so watch the market.

6 Lancaster Sound (Bet Now: $10.00) isn’t the most reliable horse going around, but he’s in an astute team and does have the ability to win this kind of race. Comes through the Gougers race from two weeks back on the course proper where gate one was used to advantage, but not much went his way and should have finished a touch closer. Leading contender.

4 Dawn Salute (Bet Now: $2.40) on top. Team Jolly trained gelding that was an impressive winner two back on the course proper here before having a mini freshen up and racing two weeks ago where he seemed to get every chance and tried hard. Just wasn’t good enough when second to Gougers. He’s going well and should take some beating here.

Karen Byrnes has done a fab job with 6 Wounded Soldier (Bet Now: $6.00). Seems to be racing every week but continues to race at a decent level and continually picks up prizemoney for connections. His consistency was rewarded last Wednesday with an impressive win on Balaklava Cup Day. Great record on the Parks track and is hard to beat.

5 Equus D’Oro (Bet Now: $6.00) is a definite improver here second up. Bob Richard trained gelding that was backed with confidence when resuming at Oakbank but I thought on face value, he was a touch disappointing behind Exalted Maxine. Is a winner on the Parks track and is a second up winner, so he deserves another chance.
