Nine races have been set down for Eagle Farm this Saturday, headlined by the final major of the season, the Tatts Tiara (1400m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:43) Tattersall's Life Member Stks 1830m
3 Tutukaka (Bet Now:ย $1.40 TOP ODDS) didn’t get a start in the JJ Atkins but a consolation should be a win here. It was an ordinary rating race The Phoenix but he was a real eye catcher in a sit/sprint behind Volcanic Rock. He looks like he will eat up 1800m, has upside and last start showed he will handle Eagle Farm.
2 Balmaurice (Bet Now:ย $4.60 TOP ODDS) is a handy juvenile for Rex Lipp. Ran last Saturday over 1350m at Ipswich and closed off strongly nearer the inside when a close up fourth to Bayerische in a close finish. Relative to the day, the time didn’t stack up, so highly doubt he beats Tutukaka, but should fill a first three spot.
1 General Wolffe (Bet Now:ย $5.50 TOP ODDS) is on the seven day back up after racing in the Bayerische race mentioned above from last Saturday at Ipswich. He was back near last in the run and worked to the line with purpose I thought. That was his first run in a month so he’s got upside/progression.
Race 2. (12:18) Ernie Ward Memorial Hcp 1200m
1 Redoute’s Image (Bet Now:ย $2.10 TOP ODDS) is a smart filly for Kris Lees that should prove hard to beat. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind Mirra Vision. Then went to the Sunny Coast where she was a notable late drifter in betting but a peach from Craig Williams defied that drift and she was impressive.
9 Microwave Jenny (Bet Now:ย $4.20 TOP ODDS) looks to have her share of talent. Tony Gollan trained filly that resumed over 1200m at the Gold Coast when back in the run and never really a threat, but liked the way she closed her race off behind Mr Majestic, who was smashed in betting and duly saluted. Like her on the bigger track and she’ll be strong late.
Good little test here for 10 Super One Susie (Bet Now:ย $7.50 TOP ODDS) but she’s 2/2 this time in and I think has earned a crack at this level. Ran over 1100m at Ipswich last time out and I loved the way she dug in. She was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but she can sneak a first four spot.
Race 3. (12:53) Winning Edge Presentations Hcp 1200m
It’s been somewhat of a frustrating Carnival for 1 Mass Destruction (Bet Now:ย $3.00 TOP ODDS) and his connections but I think they’ll be rewarded with a win here. Gee he has run some super races this time in without winning, his latest run being two weeks ago in the Queensland Day when pipped near the peg by stablemate Setanta. This race, as a whole, looks thin, and he has the runs on the board.
3 Acrobatic (Bet Now:ย $13.00 TOP ODDS) is a Kelly Schweida trained three year old that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Summer Carnival where he was far from disgraced in a couple of lead ups to the Magic Millions but he was found out as to not really measuring up at that level. This looks more his go and has trialled well leading in.
2 Kavak (Bet Now:ย $21.00 TOP ODDS) can give this a shake if he runs up to anywhere near his best. Chris Munce trained three year old that is a few weeks between runs since a down the track effort at Doomben behind a promising animal. The Move. 1/1 at Eagle Farm, so he gets some level of respect.
Race 4. (13:28) Tattersall's Gold Crown 2137m
6 La Grisa (Bet Now:ย $5.50 TOP ODDS) has more upside than most and should love the rise in trip for John O’Shea. This mare has had two runs back from a spell, each coming over 1800m at Rosehill behind Mubariz and each time she has caught the eye late. Hard fit now, J Mac on, can sit much closer in the run…I think she’ll take beating.
Is this one run too many for 1 Polly Grey? (Bet Now:ย $2.35 TOP ODDS) Really put it together at the back end of the Carnival in Sydney. Then came back to the mile in the Sapphire and was just fair behind stablemate Nudge. Was that a prep run for this target race, or has she had enough? Market will be the guide.
4 Cellarmaid (Bet Now:ย $26.00 TOP ODDS) can be a big improver back to this level. Thrown in the deep end in the Q22, looked outclassed on paper and ran right up to that, finishing down the track behind Zaaki. Back to her own sex, better for the 2200m run under the belt, she can be dangerous at a price.
Race 5. (14:03) Battle Of The Bush Final 1200m
With these races, I look more at who has measured up at TAB meetings rather than recent/impressive Non TAB form. With that in mind, I’ve landed with 2 Tango Rain (Bet Now:ย $4.00). Jay Morris has done a super job with this guy and he comes here off the back of a pretty strong win at Rockhampton when lumping 62kg, sitting on speed and kicking on strongly in what looked a decent open handicap. I think he’ll only run well.
3 Raiden (Bet Now:ย $12.00) is one I am wary of. John Manzelmann trained gelding that has run well in town before. Last run at this track, he was four lengths off The Harrovian. Ridden far too warm two back, then last start, they rode to his normal pattern of cold and he was a real eye catcher. If he’s within range 400m out, he can win.
14 Hit Snooze (Bet Now:ย $35.00) has done his recent racing at Non TAB meetings but one thing that is a big tick for him is that he is a winner at Eagle Farm in another life when he was trained by Steve O’Dea as a juvenile. His recent efforts have been sound. Not sure I could back him to win, but one for multiples.
Race 6. (14:42) Tattersall's Cup 2406m
Is it a case of how many times can you go to the well with 4 Incentivise? (Bet Now:ย $1.45) He has been up a while but seems to be thriving. This will be a good test for him because to be fair, he has been smashing provincial class horses, and if he is indeed going to be a Caulfield Cup contender, he has to be smashing that sort of cattle up, and I think he needs to smash this field up something similar. Couldn’t back him to win here, but can’t tip against him.
1 Mirage Dancer (Bet Now:ย $6.00) is capable if he found anything near his best. Was over eight weeks between runs when he ran in the Q22 and given it was a stop/start affair, he didn’t really fire and was plain behind Zaaki. He’ll come on from that and his best would see him around the mark.
5 Traduce (Bet Now:ย $23.00) is on the seven day back up for Maryann Brosnan after racing in the Ipswich Cup on the weekend. He was outclassed on paper but his effort was still more than sound I thought in defeat. I highly doubt he wins here, but he could sneak a minor spot.
Race 7. (15:22) Edward Street Brisbane (bm80) 1000m
6 Shooting For Gold (Bet Now:ย $2.05) is a talented animal for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Summer Carnival where he was putting wins together nicely before being thrown in the deep end and the Magic Millions Carnival, where he didn’t measure up in the Guineas. Like he has dodged the Winter and resuming towards the back end, where he has fresh legs, whereas some of these are nearer the end than the beginning of the prep, and his trial was sharp.
5 Genzai The Wolf (Bet Now:ย $8.00) is a David Murphy trained four year old that comes here four weeks between runs since recording an impressive win over 1200m here, finishing best from off the speed. The form out of it has been strong via Superium and I do feel he is best suited at 1000m.
2 Desert Man (Bet Now:ย $15.00) is on the quick back up for Kelly Schweida after dominating proceedings last Wednesday at Doomben. He was big odds but was just dominant on speed and gave nothing else a look in. Harder here, but he’s racing well and has the right racing pattern.
Race 8. (15:58) Tattersall's Tiara 1400m
9 Nudge (Bet Now:ย $10.00) has earned a crack at Group l level. Has won two decent class races on the bounce, winning the Pam O’Neill two back before sprouting wings out wide to win the Sapphire three weeks ago. Fast run 1400m will suit, she’ll be strong late and is a Chris Waller mare in form.
What a great decision it has been from the Moroney camp and connections to pull 1 Tofane (Bet Now:ย $4.20) out of the sale because it’s been rewarded already with a win in the Stradbroke last time out and gee he was strong to the line in winning under a peach from Williams. Back to Mares grade, hard fit, she appeals.
12 Coventina Bay (Bet Now:ย $20.00) is the one from the Dane Ripper I have eyes for. Ran second to star mare Avantage two back before going to the Dane Ripper fresh and she worked to the line strongly late behind Brooklyn Hustle. Fitter and up to 1400m, she’ll appreciate a genuine tempo and be strong late.
Race 9. (16:34) W.j. Healy Stakes 1200m
5 Hightail (Bet Now:ย $8.50) is a good sprinter for Team Snowden that resumes. Hasn’t raced since March when placing in the Hareeba at Mornington behind Laverrod. His trials leading in have been pretty solid and he is a pure dry track horse, so he does get conditions to suit here.
I reckon 10 Hail Manhattan (Bet Now:ย $19.00) is in for a good prep. Team Hulbert trained four year old that resumed threeweeks ago in the Lightning at Eagle Farm. He was never really a winning threat given the race shape but I loved the way he closed off late behind Usmanov. Is a second up winner, like him up in trip and has the strong form lines.
The inside gate could be a negative for 13 Inanup (Bet Now:ย $23.00) but I think he has come back in super order and is a knockout chance at odds. Several weeks between runs since racing at Randwick when back near last in the run and making up good ground late behind subsequent Stakes winner Adelong. If the inside is okay, or if he gets to better ground, he’s a threat for sure.
