26/12/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown, Christmas Stakes day

Eight races will be run and won at Sandown on Boxing Day. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

2 Wrigley Field (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was off a mini freshen up when racing three weeks ago on Ballarat Cup Day. He got off speed before being presented clear air out wide and finished off strongly when third to Tempt The Gods. Better for the run, can settle closer, takes beating.

1 Zebra Finch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran second to Tempt The Gods on Ballarat Cup Day. He got into a reasonable spot in transit just off speed and tried hard but couldn’t reel the surprising but impressive winner. He has that 1400m run under the belt, which holds him in good stead.

7 Princing (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes straight to town for Jerome Hunter off the back of a win at Werribee in a maiden when leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win and win well in dominant fashion. Gets in well after the claim, will press forward and be around the mark.

5 Behaviour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be sneaky flying and I think is a great gamble here. He resumed over this trip at Pakenham where he got back to near last in the run but I really liked the way he closed his race off after getting wide on the turn and in the straight. Has a gate to settle much closer and will be effective late.

12 Runlikeencryption (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned well for Ben Brisbourne. She resumed over 1000m at Caulfield Heath when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat. If within range, she has the finale to take this out.

7 The Showvinist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran in the same race that Rewards And More contested, won by Always Enuff. He was just run off his legs and although he did make up late ground, he was never really threatening. Not sure I could back him to win but is a must for exotics.

2 Promised Land (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key chances after a solid effort over 2000m at Pakenham behind Suntora. He got off speed and tracked into the race nicely but just lacked the change up speed to go with them late when fourth. Hard fit, can settle closer, will be strong late…can win.

5 Scintillate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racing over 1800m at Caulfield Heath. He got off speed and tracked up nicely before angling into clear and finished off pretty good in defeat. Tick over jumpout win was strong, maps nicely and the rise in trip is fine.

12 Seethru (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 2100m after racing over 1741m at Geelong last start. He was a bit one paced when asked for the effort but he stayed on and kept finding the line in defeat behind Blue Cowboy. Unknown at the trip but is racing as if he’ll be fine and is a knockout hope.

7 Untapped (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be hard fit. He ran over this trip at Caulfield Heath last start where he got into a lovely spot in transit just off speed and presented to win when getting clear air but had to settle for a narrow second to surprise winner Gundaroo. Hard fit now, he can take this out.

3 No Fooling (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing at Werribee when wide no cover throughout and tried hard but the early work took its toll late. Better run in transit this time around, form prior was strong, he’s one of the leading contenders.

8 Winsome Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in the mix for the Symons/Laxon camp. He ran over this track/distance last time, his first run in a month, and for mine just looked a bit rusty and in need of the run behind Primal Spirit. Has that run under the belt, he’s dangerous.

2 Stage N Screen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Mark Walker. She ran second over this trip at Cranbourne last start when off speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Gellhorn. Hard fit now being third, she’s a key threat.

1 Legacy Bay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Moody/Coleman. She has run third in both runs this time in, the latest coming at Ballarat when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat when third to Swiftie Harriet. Can settle closer and be effective late.

7 Dane On Tour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hit and miss but is capable with her best. She ran over this trip at Geelong last time where she got back to near last in the run and just whacked in the run to the line behind Botanical Boy. Blinkers go on to sharpen her up and she gets in well after the claim.

3 Nadal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is back on track. He ran in The Meteorite where he got back to near last in the run and on a day where up/in was dynamite, he was very good late behind Jigsaw. If within range, he can launch over the top.

1 Aviatress (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a ripping mare for Team Jolly that was a strong winner of the Doveton several weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating, launching late from off speed to win in good style. Can settle much closer in the run and still be effective late. Clear threat.

2 Marble Nine (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran down the track behind Aviatress in the Doveton. He attempted to lead throughout but copped heat from the outside and couldn’t sustain the run when down the track. Fitter, 1200m, think he gets more front end control, he’s a definite improver.

I think the class of 1 Craig (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets him home. He resumed at Caulfield in the Testa Rossa several weeks ago where the race shape was against him but he kept finding the line and was really good in defeat I thought behind Here To Shock. Better for the run and up to a more suitable trip, he takes beating.

2 Detonator Jack (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to the mile after racing over 2000m in the Ballarat Cup. He got into a decent spot just off the speed and did try hard but just couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch late in the piece. I think he saves his best for the mile and he is proven here. Big threat.

11 Bon Mistress (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran fourth to Jenni Gone Bonkers at Pakenham and I thought her run was full of merit given she was three and four wide no cover for a fair chunk of the race but she stuck on and was quite game in defeat. She has shown signs of life and is one for wider exotics.

12 Matawai (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me each way in the last. She resumed over 1300m at Cranbourne where she landed on speed and seemed to get her chance but I think first up, condition just gave way late. Fitter, should lob into a beaut spot from the draw…only runs well.

7 Stealth Of Night (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very genuine mare for Team Hayes that was a strong winner at Sandown last time. The margin was narrow but I say the win was strong because she was there to be beaten but she really lifted when it mattered to score. Good racing style, she’ll take beating.

6 Russian Meteor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was good in defeat last time out over the mile at Pakenham, getting a fair way off the pace but was good late in the piece when third to Eye For An Eye. If he can settle closer and be within range, he’s dangerous.

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 12 Matawai
