26/10/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Belgravia Stakes day

The Ascot Carnival continues this Saturday with a nine race card, headlined by the Belgravia Stakes (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Giving 7 Bolshoi Gal (Bet Now: $3.10) another chance for the Mcauliffe stable. She was relatively solid in betting when resuming here last Wednesday but unfortunately for her supporters, she was wide no cover for the trip and faded out of the finish. Tricky draw, but this race does appear to be lacking serious depth and she has early speed to overcome the wide barrier.

I like 2 Neat Action (Bet Now: $3.80) up in trip. This Neville Parnham trained galloper resumed over 1100m here two weeks ago where he lacked any real change up speed but did make ground late to run fourth to Validation, looking like a horse that he wants further, which he gets here. Suited at 1400m and fitter, he’s a key chance in what appears to be a winnable maiden.

6 Frosty Belle (Bet Now: $6.00) was a few weeks between runs for Keith Reeves when racing in a 1400m maiden at Bunbury last time out when attempting to lead all the way and giving a good kick, but just felt the pinch late. Think she’ll take improvement off that, lands on speed and will be hard to run down. Last 50-100m will be the test but has the right racing pattern.

Going the way of 10 Chokslam (Bet Now: $3.90) for the Gary Crispin stable. This mare had trialled up well prior to debuting over 1200m at Bunbury when off speed and chasing well to place in a maiden which had depth to it in solid time. Bit of depth here but she looks a likely type and has upside. May want a touch further, but this race does appear to lack serious depth.

3 Megachino (Bet Now: $5.50) has had several chances to break the maiden tag for the Tiarna Robertson stable but certainly has enough ability to take this out. Resumed over 1100m here two weeks ago when back in the run and never really likely as a winning threat but did make up ground late behind Validation. Fitter and up to 1200m, he can improve against these.

6 Rapid Transit (Bet Now: $10.00) can be an improver here at odds. Trevor Andrews trains this four year old, who debuted at this track/distance two weeks ago and was pretty solid in defeat I thought behind Validation after getting a reasonable run just off the pace. Looked a bit raw/new to the caper but found the line well enough in defeat. Improves from start one to start two and is a chance.

9 Vicinity (Bet Now: $13.00) is a daughter of Safeguard on debut for Neville Parnham. She’s had a couple of trials in readiness for start one, the latest coming over 1000m at Belmont when looking to go about her business nicely in reasonable time despite the trial only having three horse. Stable have a decent record with their juveniles so keen to see how she goes here at start one.

6 Too Spicy (Bet Now: $2.30) is a Dion Luciani trained filly that was kept very safe in betting when debuting here two weeks ago and I thought she was quite good in defeat when a narrow second to Bumper Humper after settling just off the speed, she got the outside and worked to the line nicely to grab second and just miss out on the win. Hard to beat, but too short to back.

5 Pure Excitement (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Paul Jordan trained son of Oratorio that is having start one. This bloke has had a couple of 400m trials in readiness for his debut, the latest coming on Monday at Lark Hill. Hard to get a real guide on these 400m trials but the stable does have a good record with the juveniles and he has early toe if he jumps clean and the jock wants to use it.

Last chance for 6 Spillinova (Bet Now: $4.40). Been hot on him winning a race this prep and he arguably should have won three back when pipped by Mad Brad after copping serious heat on speed. Last start came at this track/distance last Saturday when off speed and tried hard but was never really a winning threat when fifth to Platoon. His best chance will come if he can lead and dominate.

4 Western Temple (Bet Now: $3.50) is the interesting runner. Adam Durrant trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced for four weeks since racing at Belmont over the mile when a closing third to Taxagano after getting well off the pace in the run. He may need one run under the belt, but he’s got enough class/quality to run well despite 1400m being short of his best trip.

2 Freo (Bet Now: $20.00) is on his last chance too. This time last year, he was touted as a sneaky Railway chance, but gee his two runs back from a break have been poor, the latest coming two weeks ago over 1400m when down the track behind Cup Night. He has a really good third up record and generally saves his best for Ascot. His best would see him win. Just hasn’t produced it in a while.

6 Stoicism (Bet Now: $3.30) looks ready to win third up from a break. Resumed with a third to Jedaffair at Belmont before going to the Kalgoorlie where he just took an eternity to wind up, but was solid enough late to run third, though let the punters down as he was favourite. Third up at 1800m, he looks ready to peak and three of his four career wins have come at Ascot.

1800m looks a little query with 1 Missile Launch (Bet Now: $4.60) but I reckon Vaughn Sigley has him flying I reckon without winning. He ran over the mile here a couple of weeks ago where he loomed to win and looked the winner 150m out but couldn’t finish it off when fourth to Jedaffair. Either he needs 1400m, a drop in depth, or is he looking for 1800m. Only time will tell.

3 Witness In Court (Bet Now: $8.50) is a sneaky chance here. He ran over this track.distance last Saturday where he was back near last in the run and didn’t fire a shot, mind you that Cockney Crew dominated proceedings on speed and gave nothing else a look in. He can sit much closer in the run from the better gate and if that eventuates, he’s a knockout chance.

I’ll take a chance on 6 Black Sabbath (Bet Now: $3.50), who resumes for Team Harvey. This four year old hasn’t raced since July 27 at Belmont when specked at odds and running a positive race when a close up fifth to Free Trade, who at the time was one of the form gallopers in Perth, so that form reads very well for this, his trial was good and he can sprint well fresh.

5 Beat The Devil (Bet Now: $11.00) is an interesting runner. Simon Miller trains this gelding, who had good specking when resuming over 1200m here last Saturday when on speed but didn’t show much in the straight and was disappointing. Interesting the stable backs him up straight and coming back in trip, and especially with this stable, I’d be watching the market.

4 Diablerie (Bet Now: $9.00) is first up here. This son of New Approach hasn’t raced since June 22 at Belmont when down the track behind War God on a somewhat testing track. Has a decent enough record at Ascot and the fast speed in front should be ideal for him. Trialled earlier in the week and looked pretty good there, so for multiples, I’d be including him for sure.

I think 3 Sophie’s Song (Bet Now: $6.00) can run a bold race here fresh. This mare is first up for Simon Miller, having not raced since May 18 over 1500m when running a close up fifth to Mrs Brown’s Boy, capping off a pretty solid prep. Really liked the way she trialled recently and finds a winnable race from a decent gate, even though she’s yet to fire in two previous fresh runs.

9 Forgotten Star (Bet Now: $6.00) is a daughter of Star Witness resuming for the Alan Matthews team. This girl went down the Oaks path and for the most part ran well, but at a staying trip, against some decent horse flash, she couldn’t see it out strongly enough. Shorter trips are her go in life and has trialled well leading in. 1200m is short of her best, but does have class on her side.

7 Megazone (Bet Now: $20.00) brings provincial form to town, but the Ashley Maley stable is absolutely flying at the moment. His two runs back from a spell have come at Geraldton and I really liked the way he found the line from the back to place last start, which was over 1100m. Tricky draw, likely gets back but will be strong late and the big tick is the rise to 1200m.

In the corner of 9 Celebrity Queen (Bet Now: $4.60), who looks a decent prospect for Team Williams. Impressive debut winner over 1200m at Belmont before being freshened up and racing over 1000m here two weeks ago where she found the five furlongs too sharp but was good in defeat when second to the talented filly Amelia’s On Fire. Back up to 1200m, keen on her.

7 Miss West Coast (Bet Now: $5.50) is a key threat. Very good filly for Trevor Andrews that resumed over 1000m at Belmont several weeks ago where she sat off what was a good speed and when McNaught shoved into the clear at the top of the straight, it was a matter of how far. Ended up being three lengths but that flattered her rivals. She was outstanding and can go right on with it.

8 Miss Tycoon (Bet Now: $35.00) is a daughter of Written Tycoon resuming for the Neville Parnham stable. This girl hasn’t raced since June 29 at Belmont when scoring a narrow but decent win over 1000m at Belmont. Looks to have trialled well leading in and stable is starting to find their groove as the Carnival gathers momentum. Has a touch of quality about her too.

6 Black Ducati (Bet Now: $3.60) is putting together a decent record for the Michael Lane team. This mare got her confidence back up on her home track at Bunbury last time out when on speed and giving a really good kick under Parnham to get the win in good style. Comes back to town, where she did run well at in the previous couple of runs, and be hard to run down.

Toughest test to date for 4 Bobcat Johnnie (Bet Now: $6.50), but he’s absolutely flying. Ran at this track/distance last Wednesday when leading throughout as an odds on pop and he absolutely spanked them, winning by just under five lengths in decent time. Harder here, but he lands on speed and hopefully doesn’t spend too many petrol tickets. Hard to beat.

I like 7 Zero Demerits (Bet Now: $15.00) slightly back in trip. This gelding ran over the mile here two weeks ago where he was back in the run and never really in the mix but did make ground late and wasn’t too bad in defeat behind an in form mare, Jedaffair. Not sure what upside he has got left, but he’s a hard fit horse who has won a couple of races this time in. One for multiples.
