Australia Day Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Australia Day Cup
Race 1. (13:30) Petaluma Plate 1100m
4 Epic (Bet Now: $SP.00) will do me each way in the opener. Team Hawkes trained colt that trialled like a rocket prior to resuming on the Kenso where she was very keen on speed and tired late. If he can harness his energy better, I think he’ll run a beauty against these.
1 Bryant (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice colt for Ron Quinton that resumes. He was strong when last in work without winning and despite just one trial, it was a good trial to bring him right on for a return. Hard to beat.
5 Gus The Great (Bet Now: $SP.00) resumes for Joe Pride. He had one run when last in work, a debut resulting in a fourth at this track/distance. Looks to have trialled up really well for the return, so watch the market and see what it does.
Race 2. (14:05) TAB Plate 1100m
1 Fairway To Heaven (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top in what looks a two horse race. This girl was kept quite safe in betting when debuting on the Kenso back in July when placing behind the Stakes performed Custom. Rivalled very well, maps ideally, rates highly against these.
2 Farfetched (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the debut run, which came on the Kenso when leading and she gave a decent kick from the front but bumped into a smart one, Astronomix. Looks the leader and will take running down.
7 Olivia Twist (Bet Now: $SP.00) is first up for Brad Widdup, having not raced since her debut back in September when raw and new to the caper. Given a good break and her trial work has been quite encouraging. Watch betting.
Race 3. (14:40) Precise Air Plate 1400m
7 Let’s Go Barbie (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door. She ran last Wednesday on the Kenso when off speed and took a little while to wind up but charged late when second. Racing well and is one of the hardest to beat.
1 Indigo Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had numerous chances to break the maiden tag but that said, she is knocking on the door. Runner up when resuming before going back in trip and just found them a bit sharp. Like her up to 1400m and hard fit, she appeals.
8 Saytara (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous if this track is playing up/in. She sat on speed on the Kenso last start and tried hard but felt the pinch late. Front end control, she can run a much improved race at odds.
Race 4. (15:15) Hyland Race Colours Handicap (64) 1600m
4 Lancelot Du Lac (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the straight bat play. He has been freshened up since Dec 20 when a solid fourth at Randwick, a good effort at start two. Tick over trial was pretty good, he looks the leader, will be extremely hard to get past.
2 Climb The Ladder (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to the mile after racing over 1800m on the Kenso last start where he was very one paced in the straight and just whacked in the run to the line when second. He’ll be strong late. Just wants a genuine tempo.
1 Commanding Artist (Bet Now: $SP.00) has returned well for Ryan/Alexiou and is dangerous. He attempted to lead throughout over 1550m at Canterbury and gave a strong kick from the front but had no answers late for Monopolistic. Good racing style, he’s a must for exotics.
Race 5. (15:50) Toyota Forklifts Handicap (72) 1400m
2 Mamushka (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. She was a sharp first up winner before going to the Gold Coast when leading and seemingly had her chance but just weakened late.
1 Tequila Baby (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in the mix for Brad Widdup. She found the track far too wet at Rosehill in the Midway last time, sitting off speed but didn’t let down in the conditions. Firmer deck and 1400m, she can run a much improved race.
5 Shanoni (Bet Now: $SP.00) was ridden with intent last start on the Kenso, leading, and looked the wiener for a few strides, but the class of Unleeshing came to the fore. Tricky draw, but if she does get ridden with intent again, she’s dangerous.
Race 6. (16:30) Australia Day Cup 2400m
3 Unspoken (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a real eye catcher in the Christmas Cup. He got back off speed and spotted those in front too much head start but did like the way he finished his race off in defeat when third to Tavi Time. If he can settle closer, he’ll take holding out.
1 Future History (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the leader and from there, is hard to beat, as seen in the January Cup. He lapped up the conditions and just wanted to win more vs the rest. 2400m should be fine, he gets front end control and is tough.
5 Elliptical (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran third to Unlimited two weeks back at Wyong. He got into a decent spot in transit and tracked into the race with purpose. He tried hard but couldn’t quite finish off well enough when third. Racing well, nearing a win, commands respect.
Race 7. (17:10) Ole Kirk First Yearlings Handicap (72) 1400m
4 Anthracite (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the card. Formerly in SA with Gary Boyce, he finds himself with Joe Pride. We know how good the stable are when it comes to a tried horse, never mind a horse that has good upside/progression to come, and his trial work has been strong.
9 Il Passero (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1200m here. He got back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was far from disgraced. If within range, he has the finale to take this out.
10 Master Riley (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope. He ran in the Moruya Cup last start, thrown in the deep end, and was never a factor after getting back. Hit and miss this guy but his best is good enough to win.
Race 8. (17:50) Asahi Super Dry Handicap (72) 1000m
2 Shalaa Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a great bet to close out the meeting. He resumes for Bjorn Baker after doing some nice things when last in work. 900m trial followed by a trial over 1050m, the grounding is well and truly there for a first up assault.
4 Straand Beauty (Bet Now: $SP.00) likely presses forward and runs well, as seen last start at this track/distance when on speed and was hailed as the winner, getting nabbed late by Tai Lung. Should land on speed and run well…last bit may test.
13 The Main Event (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Terry Robinson trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Sep 21 when a tough on speed winner at Nowra, finding plenty under pressure to fend them off and score. Fresh at 1000m I like, good racing style, he’s around the mark.
