Race 1. (13:48) Girls Day Out On Sale Handicap (Class 4) 1600m
7 Yukanuma (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) to measure up in town. Stephen Lee trained gelding that was down the track two back at Doomben behind Sacred Mission before going to Coffs Harbour where he gave them a start and a beating in an electric display. He is heading in the right direction and the way he spanked them at Coffs, he’ll run well against these.
2 Vendidit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Glenn Thornton. He was on speed over the mile at Doomben last time and he gave a very strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by Tuhinga. He has a good record at Eagle Farm and I reckon with a more patient steer, I think he’ll be more effective late.
4 Kinetic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Tony Gollan. This mare hasn’t quite set the world on fire in two runs back from a spell, the latest coming here over 1300m when doing work to land on speed and just tired late behind Tread Softly. Tongue Tie goes on, which is an interesting gear change, and I do think she is suited at the mile. Not dismissing her.
Race 2. (14:23) Stradbroke Season On Sale Maiden Plate 1200m
2 Bucks Fizz (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the way I am leaning in what looks a solid maiden. O’Dea/Hoysted trained filly that is on debut off the back of a sharp trial win at Doomben over a month ago when on speed before being clicked up and moved well late to win the trial in solid time. Stable rarely misfire when they debut a horse in town and despite the tricky gate, she is the way I am leaning.
8 Magic Island (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. Rob Heathcoate trains this daughter of Kermadec, who comes here off the back of a sharp all the way trial win last week at Doomben, where she moved well and under minimal riding, won by a space in solid time. Maps ideally, should press forward and be hard to run down.
5 Grand Meteor (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of Deep Field on debut for Tony Gollan. This girl trialled last week at Doomben where she was a well held second but what I liked is that when asked for the effort, she did find, responded, and closed off her trial, so the grounding is there and she’s in a good camp.
Race 3. (14:58) Mount Franklin Maiden Plate 1200m
3 Dashing Hope (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks ready to win a maiden and I think she gets a great chance here. She has placed in all three runs this time in, the latest run coming over 1200m on the home deck at the Sunny Coast on wet ground when just off the speed and kept finding the line in a good effort when second to Jealous. Maps to get a suck run in transit and strikes a winnable race.
10 Traviata (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver for O’Dea/Hoysted. This girl was a notable drifter in betting when resuming over 1200m at the Sunny Coast where the market got it absolutely spot on, failing to handle the conditions when down the track behind Daintree Dreaming. Firmer footing, Blinkers on, she can bounce back.
1 Bold Rouge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of Under The Louvre for Garnett Taylor that is on debut. This girl has had two trials this prep to get ready for start one, where each time she hasn’t moved too bad and enough to say she has ability. Not sure she can win on debut in town, but she is a must for exotics.
Race 4. (15:33) Sky Racing Maiden Plate 1200m
3 Gold Dazzler (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way for Team Sears. He resumed on the home track at Toowoomba on New Years Day where he got a mile out of his ground and while he was never a threat, he did make up ground in a solid return. Fitter and up to 1200m, can settle much closer in the run and still be effective at the end.
8 Pivotal Lad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Sidestep for Tony Gollan that is on debut. This guy has had a couple of trials to get ready for start one, the latest coming at Doomben last week when running third to Torre Egger and seemed to move well enough to my eye. Market will be your main guide to see if this guy us ready for a winning debut or if this is an educational run.
2 Bute Moves (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m for Nat McCall. He debuted over 1000m on the home deck at the Sunny Coast. He was run off his legs early but he picked up and was pretty good in the run to the line Laydownlilly. Like him up in trip and with the run under the belt, hopefully he can settle closer and still be effective late.
Race 5. (16:12) Souths Sports Club Handicap (Class 1) 1200m
11 Malarina (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has good ability and IMO, she has a bit on these. Annabel Neasham trained filly that resumed over 1200m at Ipswich where she looked a good thing on paper and despite a few nervous moments, class came to the fore and she made an absolute mess of them in an impressive display. Fitter, bigger track, good upside, down in the weights…keen.
3 Damo Dayz (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Cable Bay for Tony Gollan that is first up. He hasn’t raced since his debut here back in March when giving them a start and a beating, producing a brilliant finale to win and win well, beating a nice type in Paris Avenue. Two trials under the belt to get ready, I think he’s a huge market watch.
8 Up The Country (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) hasn’t done much wrong in a three start career. Two of those runs have come for Jack Bruce, both at Lismore, winning the maiden two back before a gutsy second last time out behind Written Fame. Maps to get an ideal run in transit…not sure he has the quality of the first two, but is a lock for exotics.
Race 6. (16:52) XXXX Handicap (Class 2) 1400m
1 Boom Short (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should prove hard to beat against these. Tony Gollan trained gelding that ran three weeks ago at the Gold Coast in a strong Class 4 where he got back to near last in the run and made up minor headway but was never really a threat behind Lavish Empire. Back in depth, hard fit and up to 1400m, he looks hard to beat.
3 Last Chance Saloon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong in a seven start career for David Vandyke and is one of the leading chances. He was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1400m at the Sunny Coast on wet ground and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to A Big Chance. Firmer footing, jockey upgrade, kind map…definite winning chance.
12 Satashi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another look for Rob Heathcoate. This mare was backed with confidence at the Sunny Coast last time and despite sitting wide throughout, she was too bad to be true, so the jury is somewhat out on her but her tick over trial last week was strong, so watch the market.
Race 7. (17:32) Ladbroke It! Handicap (68) 1200m
8 Boom Court (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. This gelding raced over 1200m at Doomben last time out when attempting to lead throughout and giving a very strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by a nice horse in Belvedere Boys. Has run well at the track/distance previously and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
9 Amathuba (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver for Tony Gollan. Formerly with Team Freedman, she had her first run for Gollan at Ipswich where she just looked in need of the run, failing to finish the race off behind Addriel, a pretty handy horse for Annabel Neasham who would be a clear favourite here. Tick over trial was good, she’s fitter and is a proven metro performer.
10 Strapparsi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Kris Lees. She ran over 1110m at Doomben last time out where she was ridden with a sit and found the line strongly but found one better in Tikka Ready. She was five weeks between runs there so with improvement to come, she rates highly.
Race 8. (18:10) Drinkwise Handicap (Class 1) 1800m
1 Royal Rift (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the good thing on the card. Former Maher/Eustace galloper that had his first run for Tony Gollan over this track/distance where he got back off the speed and found the line strongly when third to stablemate Ain’t He Grand. He has good improvement to come and this race looks much weaker vs last time. Keen on his prospects.
6 So You Knew (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Stablemate of Royal Rift that ran over the Doomben mile last time out where he got into a decent spot off the speed before making a sustained run and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when fourth to Whisky Dream. Blinkers on, up in trip, hard fit, there is clear intent.
4 Disputed River (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate firmer footing for Stuart Kendrick. His recent runs have come on wet ground on his home deck at the Sunny Coast where he hasn’t been too bad for the most part but for mine he is clearly a better horse on a dry deck, which is what he gets here. Big improver.
