Brisbane racing this Saturday heads to Doomben for a solid eight race card, with good depth right across the board once again. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:32) : RBHW Foundation Handicap 1350m:

Back Me: Trainer John Zielke talked up 3 Ruby Red Heart (Best Odds: $2.30) in a big way prior to her debut over 1200m here a fortnight back and the filly justified his confidence with a tough and gritty on speed win. Should improve off that, maps well once again and she should have upside from start one to start two.
Big Danger: 1 Lady Lark (Best Odds: $3.10) ran second behind Ruby Red Heart in that race mentioned above and she tried hard, but she just got too far back in the run, and with two year olds at the 1200m start here, it’s difficult to make up ground, so she did a really good job to finish as close as she did. Extra 150m is ideal and she is hard fit.
Long Shot: 5 Pah Terie (Best Odds: $6.50) debuted over 1000m in an Eagle Farm maiden a tick over two weeks back where he got a fair way back in the run and though off the bit a fair way out, he closed off well late behind Acceptile, who ran well last Saturday to frank the form. Has room for improvement and he will love the rise to 1350m.

Race Two (14:07) : Sofitel Brisbane Central Handicap 1050m:

Back Me: Prepared to take the gamble with 3 Pinch River (Best Odds: $7.50). Talented sprinter that resumes for Rob Heathcoate after three runs in the Autumn where he didn’t really fire, but the third run was in the Victory Stakes and he was four lengths of Group l sprinter Fell Swoop. That alone reads very well and he does sprint well fresh.
Big Danger: 5 Espiritu (Best Odds: $9.50) also comes through the Divine Service race at Eagle Farm three weeks back where she had to do a stack of work from the wide draw and to her credit she stuck on really well but was no match the final 150m. If she can perhaps get cover here and saved for the last run, she can certainly beat these.
Long Shot: 4 Best Of The Rest (Best Odds: $26.00) is the big query runner here. Talented gelding that hasn’t raced since December 2015 when running okay at Stakes level over the mile. No public trials, so how fit he is remains to be unclear, but you always have to respect these horses off long layoffs.

Race Three (14:42) : Midori Handicap 2000m:

Back Me: 3 Yoho (Best Odds: $10.00) for me here. He had his first go at 2000m here a fortnight back where he attempted to lead all the way and he gave a really good kick but was just simply no match for the low flying Arki. No horse of that form or class engaged here, he maps well once again and now that he has the 2000m run under the belt, he should be much better off and rates highly to my eye.
Big Danger: 6 Hi Son (Best Odds: $14.00) is on the seven day back up after racing in an open handicap over the mile at Eagle Farm last Saturday where he got back in the run and had to save ground nearer the inside, which wasn’t the place to be, but he stuck on really well behind Beatniks. Really good record at this distance range and looms as one of the hardest to beat.
Long Shot: 12 Explosive One (Best Odds: $21.00) is a mare who can be hard to trust but I think she can be followed now with confidence given she comes to town off the back of a six length romp of her rivals over 2000m at Lismore. Admittedly, she beat nothing, but the margin and manner in which she did it does suggest she can measure up to these, and she does have the Matty Dunn polish.

Race Four (15:22) : Thyme2 Restaurant @ Sofitel Brisbane Central Handicap 1600m:

Back Me: 5 Niccanova (Best Odds: $2.50) is a talented gelding for Steve Tregea who is on the seven day back up after racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm last Saturday where he got back and held up in the run but once clear, he really finished his race off with purpose behind All Over Bosanova. Up to the mile is the query, but he looks well above average.
Big Danger: 6 Up The Tempo (Best Odds: $5.00) has had two runs back from a break, both coming here, the latest coming at this trip when sitting near the speed and trying hard but was simply no match for the above average Ahndras. Third up now, so she should be about ready fitness wise, and stable is in really good form at the moment.
Long Shot: 2 Damn Fine (Best Odds: $10.00) looks ready to tackle the mile now after racing over 1350m here last Wednesday where he sat off the pace before Cassidy gave him clear air and he chased hard to get the win in the final few strides. On that run, the mile here should suit, he’s hard fit and now has winning form under the belt.

Race Five (16:02) : Betfairy Handicap 1350m:

Back Me: Going with 6 Siegfried (Best Odds: $3.10) here in a strong open handicap. He was unlucky not to strongly challenge Madotii two back in the QTIS race on Magic Millions Day before getting redemption a fortnight back at this track/distance when heavily backed and coming with a well timed run to get the job done. He’ll handle the class rise, maps well, hard fit…ticks alot of boxes.
Big Danger: 1 Cylinder Beach (Best Odds: $3.00) is clearly the best horse in the race, but whether 1350m is short will be the issue. Ran some cracking races during the Summer Carnival, highlighted by a brilliant by a brilliant first up win in the Recognition when ridden a treat by Luke Tarrant. He does have very good stats first up and at Doomben, and he has class on his side.
Long Shot: I thought there was merit in the first up run of 4 Beckham (Best Odds: $6.00) over 1200m at Eagle Farm three weeks back given he was wide and midfield throughout, and had the big weight. Stuck on really well I thought and the form has been franked. Goes well at Doomben, and if they press forward, he should get up near the pace without doing much work.

Race Six (16:42) : Prive249 Restaurant @ Sofitel Brisbane Central Plate (Class 3) 1200m:

Back Me: 5 Bold Adventure (Best Odds: $4.60) looks one of the best bets not just on this program but indeed the country. Promised to do great things when trained by Gai Waterhouse but didn’t quite seize upon his potential. Transferred to Toby Edmonds and made his Queensland debut at Ipswich, and though he was up against much, the win and performance was just unbelievable. He was in a hopeless spot in the run but came with such a brilliant finishing burst. He will win a Stakes race in time I think, and he should give these a nice caning.
Big Danger: 14 Just Orm (Best Odds: $7.50) is a three year old taking on the older horses but has to be respected off the back of a sharp on speed win over 1050m here a fortnight back when beating Dylan’s Luck, who came out and beat up a handy field at the Gold Coast last Saturday, so the form has been franked, and he does map well here.
Long Shot: 2 Earnhart (Best Odds: $101.00) couldn’t come on two back over 1050m here at the midweeks before going to the 1200m at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago where he ran a much improved race when a narrow second to proven city performer Redsson. He has shown good promise previously, and he is another that could go on with it now he has found some positive form.

Race Seven (17:22) : RBWH Handicap (0MW) 1200m:

Big Danger: 9 Rhyme Nor Rhythm (Best Odds: $2.80) is rising in depth, but he is a very promising galloper for a lethal combination in Lindsay Hatch and Brad Stewart. The trio combined in a lowly ranked Class 2 at Toowoomba and rightfully started prohibitive odds. Lived up to that and spanked them. Rises in depth, but has run well in town previously.
Big Danger: 15 Tyzone (Best Odds: $5.50) is a talented three year old from North Queensland who drew the carpark last week, so was scratched and instead runs here against the older horses. Though his form had been in easier races, he proved hie is no slouch with an eye catching fourth to Oink. Draws well after scratchings and he will be strong late.
Long Shot: 2 Just A Bullet (Best Odds: $9.00) is a talented sprinter who will appreciate the drop in grade and depth after racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm last Saturday where he sat on speed and gave a really good kick but just felt the pinch late when a close up fifth to Good Job Bro. Maps well and the claim for Emma Ljung is a big tick.

Race Eight (18:02) : Blokes Day Out Handicap (75) 1350m:

Back Me: 8 I Am The Sculptor (Best Odds: $6.50) for me here in a really good race. He ran over this track/distance last Wednesday where he was heavily backed late and when Lloyd gave him clear air, he really finished off with purpose and scored quite an impressive victory. That was his first run in just under a month, so he should improve off that.
Big Danger: 5 Hotel Drive (Best Odds: $23.00) is a smart galloper for Scott Henley at Grafton who trialled well there prior to running there for a Country Championship Qualifier where he ran along at a strong tempo and kicked well, but was no match late for Perfect Dare. That was his first run since early January, so he should come on from that and rates highly for me.
Long Shot: 6 Time To Torque (Best Odds: $8.50) strung together two wins on the bounce to kick off this prep, the second coming at this track/distance, before going to Eagle Farm where he was unsuited by the slow tempo behind Dee Nine Elle. With a more genuine pace in front of him here, he’ll be more of a threat.
