The good horses keep on returning and that is the case at Rosehill this Saturday with some very nice types stepping out in the feature, the San Domenico Stakes (1100m). The weather is overcast, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

I’m hoping for the forecast for rain on Friday/Saturday is right, because if the track gets give, 2 Mandylion (Bet Now: $5.50 FAT ODDS) is a good thing for mine. Gwenda Markwell has this mare absolutely flying at the moment, but she’s crying out for a wet track. Has raced on rock hard surfaces in her first two runs for the prep and has run well but just found Irithea too good. Hopefully gets a soft lead…please, please, please let the rain come.

Danger

7 Bella Success (Bet Now: $9.00 FAT ODDS) certainly has got the ability to win this race but she’s just got no early toe and that straight away means she needs luck to go her way in order to win. Comes through the Irithea race a fortnight back and tried hard but couldn’t quite pick up. Perhaps up to 1500m and with potential give in the track, she can improve.

Long Shot

1 All Too Soon (Bet Now: $8.00 FAT ODDS) is the class of the field and should be a serious threat. Resumed in the Irithea race two weeks ago where she got back to near last off a slow tempo and really had no chance of winning but loved the way she picked up over the final 150m. Think she wants further, but she’s got the quality to win.

7 Valentino Rossa (Bet Now: $9.50 FAT ODDS) is a horse who has burned the pockets of punters for a while. I haven’t been on his back for the most part but I’ll give him a look here. Well backed last time over 1900m at Canterbury where he once again had no luck in the straight when close up behind Itsa Fait Accompli. Up to 2000m on the bigger track should help his cause.

Danger

4 Impavido (Bet Now: $5.75 FAT ODDS) is a Bjorn Baker trained gelding who looked nearly as much of a good thing as Winx when racing over 2100m at Gosford last time in a Class One/Maiden and he won accordingly, bolting up late with his class coming to the fore. Now his confidence is up, he can go on with it and win again. Could I back him to do it? No.

Long Shot

8 Invicta (Bet Now: $51.00 FAT ODDS) could be a knockout at odds. Ken Parker trains this son of Rothesay, who is on the quick back up after racing in the Taree Cup on Saturday where he was near last in the run in a race completely dominated in front from Shalmaneser, who stacked them up then sprinted from the turn. Invicta did a good job to get as close as he did. If he gets a bit of tempo here, he could easily threaten.

Race 3. (13:10) TAB Highway Handicap (Class 3) 1100m

Back Me

8 Highway Sixtysix (Bet Now: $5.25 FAT ODDS) looks a talented mare for Danny Williams who should take some beating here. Hasn’t raced since July 7 when winning impressively in a Highway at Randwick over 1200m, and that form has been franked with both Nicconita and Roman Typhoon running subsequent. Moruya trial on Sunday looked very good and is a first up winner.

Danger

6 Common Purpose (Bet Now: $3.30 FAT ODDS) is a John Bateman trained gelding who has really put it all together this time in, both starts/wins coming at Goulburn. resumed over 1000m and was most impressive with the 61kg before stepping up to 1200m and being even more impressive. Deserves a crack at a Highway and is a leading contender despite the horror draw.

Long Shot

12 Risk And Reward (Bet Now: $10.00 FAT ODDS) is a Terry Robinson trained galloper who looks to be a working progress. Was formerly with Peter Nestor but had his first run for the Robinson camp over this track/distance two weeks ago where he attempted to lead all the way and gave a pretty decent kick but just tired late when third to Lifesaver. Should improve off that and if he can get the front without spending too many petrol tickets, he can improve.

Race 4. (13:55) Lindt Handicap (78) 1100m

Back Me

I’ll just lean the way of 2 Single Bullet (Bet Now: $5.25 FAT ODDS). Son of Not A Single Doubt that resumes for the Gary Portelli team and we know the talent is there, but he just hasn’t put it together on race day. They’ve tried him out as a Stakes horse but he hasn’t measured up, so he’s been given a good break and I thought his two trials leading in have been quite good.

Danger

13 Sanglier (Bet Now: $7.00 FAT ODDS) is a James Cummings trained colt who comes to Sydney after resuming over 1000m at the Valley where he was unlucky not to finish closer given he was badly held up on the turn when appearing to have plenty to offer and should have finished much closer when fourth to Mig Energy. Finds a very winnable race here.

Long Shot

Back in grade, expect improvement from 6 Upscale (Bet Now: $15.00 FAT ODDS). She is four weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here where she didn’t get a great deal of room and luck in the straight behind Oria. She can be hit and miss at times but when she’s right, she’s a proven city horse who could easily win this.

Race 5. (14:30) San Domenico Stakes 1100m

Back Me

$26 all in for 9 Ringerdingding (Bet Now: $21.00 FAT ODDS) was crazy. The bookies had him as the rank outsider on Monday and the price was immediately taken. Several of these resumed in the Rosebud and yep, I was on him, but I’m not alone in thinking that if he got clear, he probably wins when a narrow fifth to Sandbar. Just needs a decent run in transit and he’ll take beating.

Danger

1 Performer (Bet Now: $4.75 FAT ODDS) looks the class runner of the field and should be enormously respected. He was one of the better colts from last season, where he last raced in the Slipper in a total forgive job given they walked in front and those from the back had no chance. Two trials leading in have been quite good and does have class on his side.

Long Shot

8 Neutrality (Bet Now: $5.50 FAT ODDS) could be the knockout chance. Team Snowden trains this colt, who hasn’t raced since the Silver Slipper where poured the pressure on in front and weakened late behind Sunlight. Been given a really good break and in terms of the three year olds who have trialled, he is high up on the pecking order.

Race 6. (15:05) Ming Dynasty 1400m

Back Me

5 Aramayo (Bet Now: $7.50 FAT ODDS) looks a nice colt for James Cummings, but just a bit unsure as to whether or not he’s got the brilliance to beat some of these. Don’t think he beat much last time over 1550m at Canterbury but loved the way he put them away when Angland asked him to extend. 1550m-1400m is the worry and he didn’t exactly smash the clock last time relative to the meeting. But I’ll be with him.

Danger

Up to 1400m will suit 1 Outrageous (Bet Now: $7.50 FAT ODDS). Team Hawkes train this three year old, who resumed in the Rosebud and the 1100m was just too sharp for him. Got back and tried to come on nearer the inside but couldn’t dash with the sprinters but stuck on well enough. He’ll eat up the extra trip and has class.

Long Shot

4 ExcelticΒ (Bet Now: $17.00 FAT ODDS) can certainly win this. He’s got the best form in the race for mine. He comes through the Rosebud where he got well back against the tempo and really had no chance of winning but I liked the way he picked up and his late splits was quite good. He’ll eat up 1400m and brilliance wise, he’s got most of these covered.

Hard to get away from 9 Avilius (Bet Now: $2.05 FAT ODDS). Was hot on his chances when he made his Australian debut over the Randwick mile three weeks back and gee he was impressive, producing an outstanding finish from off the pace and on the line he looked to do it in second gear. Very exciting prospect and if he naturally progresses from that, hard to see him getting beat.

Danger

If you’re going to have a saver, it’s clearly 2 Destiny’s Kiss (Bet Now: $81.00 FAT ODDS), especially if we do get the rain. He’s ten years of age but he’s still remaining to have a healthy zest for racing as we saw last time in the Winter Cup when just failing to pick up Harper’s Choice, who beat most of these in the Prelude. Loved the way he attacked the line in a recent Rosehill trial and I could definitely have something on each way.

Long Shot

5 First CrushΒ  (Bet Now: $21.00 FAT ODDS) is a Chris Munce stayer who hasn’t raced since the Grafton Cup on July 12 where I thought he did an enormous job to win given he was wide throughout then shunted very wide on the turn yet kept finding and on the line was too good. Gets a good run from the draw and does have residual fitness. Class the only niggle.

Race 8. (16:25) The CEO Magazine Handicap (91) 1200m

Back Me

9 Don’t Give A Damn (Bet Now: $7.50 FAT ODDS), if he’s right, looks the horse to beat. Blessed with so much talent for Danny Williams but unfortunately injury and soundness issues have plagued his career. He hasn’t raced since the Country Championship Final when running a game second to the very good sprinter Victorem. No trials, but I’d assume he’s had a jump out or two.

Danger

11 Miss Que (Bet Now: $7.50 FAT ODDS) is a Joe Pride trained mare who comes through the Trekking race here a fortnight back and she was one of a couple of unlucky runners from the race, working to the line strongly from the back to run third. Form has been franked via Dal Cielo and that does look strong form for this.

Long Shot

14 Arraignment (Bet Now: $126.00 FAT ODDS) is a former kiwi making his Australian debut for Joe Pride. His form over in NZ probably isn’t A1 and would need to improve off it, but his two trials leading in have been quiet good. If the rain comes around, that’ll only help his chances so I’ll keep an eye on the market and see what it does.

Race 9. (17:05) Pacific Boating Handicap (82) 1500m

Back Me

6 Sanctioned (Bet Now: $9.00 FAT ODDS) is definitely a horse I’ll be backing each way here. Just ran out of puff late first up at Randwick behind Kaonic, with that form being franked. The raced at the same track/distance and was wide throughout but battled away quite well behind Bergerac. Third up at 1500m, he should be ready.

Danger

The weight rise is the little niggle, but it’s hard to ignore the way 3 Paret (Bet Now: $2.80 FAT ODDS) is going about his business. He’s finally putting it all together for Chris Waller since returning as a gelding. Strong winner two back over 1400m here before stepping back 50m in trip and he was even more impressive. Up to 1500m looks ideal. Just has to carry the weight.

Long Shot

2 Eagle Bay (Bet Now: $9.50 FAT ODDS) is a definite improver. Chris Waller trains this bloke, who resumed in the Bergerac race at Randwick three weeks ago where he got too far back off the pace but I really liked the way he finished his race off the Queenslander, clocking some of the better late splits of the race. Good second up record, so he can bounce back hard.
