25/4/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Anzac Day races

The Kensington track at Randwick is where Anzac Day racing heads to in Sydney. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

2 Emperor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the yard/market watch. If there is a tick for either/both, he wins. He just brings the best form, albeit it is 12+ months since he last raced. Has clearly had his issues but he has had two trials at Ballina to get ready for the return and each time he has looked sharp. Should land on the bunny from the gate, Nash on, he’ll do me in the opener.

3 Himalaism (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had several chances to break the maiden tag but finds a very thin race here and gets J Mac so he has a bit in his corner. He is several weeks between runs since contesting a Warwick Farm maiden where he had every chance from just off the speed when fourth to a handy filly, Golden Queen. Given the lack of depth, he has to be respected because his best sees him go close.

1 Charity Joy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) wants further than 1100m but is a knockout hope if they go silly in front. He resumed over this trip at Hawkesbury where he got back to near last in the run and made up solid headway when a close up third to Bite Your Tongue. He has Zac Lloyd aboard and he is the form rider in Sydney at the moment, so with his 1.5kg claim, drawn soft, don’t pen him.

5 Viadelamore (Bet Now:  $SP.00) strikes a firmer deck than what he faced at Hawkesbury last time and can be a definite improver here. He actually moved nicely last time but the wheels were just spinning on the wet ground when down the track behind Queen Yuna. Getting towards peak fitness and rising to 1800m, Moreira on, a win wouldn’t shock at all.

8 Cut On A Dime (Bet Now:  $SP.00), potentially, has eyes on the Queensland Derby, but would want to be going close here. He ran at Canberra on Good Friday and was very plain in the straight I thought after getting a suck run in behind, seemingly struggling on the bog track. Tick over trial was good and back on firmer footing, he commands respect.

D-Day for 6 Postwick (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Former overseas galloper that has had two runs in Australia for Chris Waller and has been quite disappointing each time because he had jumped out well prior to the first run, so I do think there is an engine under the hood, he comes to Sydney now and finds a thin race, plus gets J Mac.

Pretty keen here on 1 Token Capitalist (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Annabel Neasham trained three year old that ran last Saturday at Kembla over 1400m where he tried to make a sustained run from a fair way out and loomed but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Cuban Granchico. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and gets a big upgrade re jockey with Zac Lloyd taking over. One of the better bets on the program.

2 Toesonthenose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in his nine start career and has to be respected against these. Game third at Hawkesbury two back before going to 1400m at Newcastle where he got a lovely steer from Tom Sherry and in a driving go, finished best, beating a Stakes performed filly, Miss Faberge. Like him up to 1550m and he has run well on the Kenso before. Key chance.

Fitter and up to 1550m are two big ticks for 10 Lehndorf (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Market kept him relatively safe in betting when resuming over 1350m at Wyong where he was very one paced and seemingly didn’t handle the tight track when third to Vandelay Style. Blinkers go back on him, signalling some level of intent, and up to 1550m, more positive ride, he can take this out.

6 Agnelli (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been pretty good in three runs back for Chris Waller and can certainly take this out. Latest run came a fortnight back behind Stuck With You where he had the suck run behind the speed and he seems the sort of horse where he needs early room to move and build the revs, which didn’t eventuate for him. If he can get that here, he’ll take beating.

5 Yarrawonga (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will lead and look the winner for a fair chunk of this 2400m contest. He looks a jumper given how slow he is. Slow in the sense that he has no turn of foot but will keep batting away, his recent runs being at Warwick Farm. That said, the Blinkers are on, a sign that they want to sharpen him up, and if that eventuates, he’ll take running down.

1 Outlandos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t want the rain to hit because I think he is sneaky flying. He is a few weeks between runs since racing over 1800m on the Kenso where he got back to near last in the run and was never a winning threat, but didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece behind Silent Agenda, who was flying at the time. Like him up in trip and his best is clearly good enough.

4 Fall For Cindy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a progressive filly that should be suited here. John O’Shea trains this girl, who comes through the Carbine Club, and I thought she did more than enough in defeat, closing off well in testing conditions to run fourth to The Fortune Teller. Has always raced like a filly wanting more ground, so is this 1550m assignment a tune up for Queensland? Potentially. Either way, hard to beat.

3 Arale (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a little query at 1550m but with a soft lead on the cards, she is likeable. She got front end control at Hawkesbury two back and was impressive in winning. She then went to Warwick Farm and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off behind a handy mare, Ausbred Flirt. The depth here, as a whole, is on the thin side, and with a soft lead, she’ll give plenty of cheek.

5 Charity Spirit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but she’s an honest mare that is around the mark more often than not. Didn’t do a bad job at Warwick Farm last time after getting back in the run, making up solid headway behind Sprout Wings. If the inside gate can be used to advantage and can settle closer, she is certainly dangerous.

On paper, an open race, but it does look a lovely race for 4 La Pittrice (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Loved the way she dug in to win her maiden at Warwick Farm two back, beating a subsequent winner. She then went to the James Carr last Saturday and was far from disgraced in defeat, keeping on finding the line in a solid effort behind Olentia, who would be $1.50 against these. Form reads very well, maps ideally and gets Nash on.

9 Semana (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in super order and appeals for the Maher/Eustace camp. Did more than enough fresh at Warwick Farm behind a handy one, Renosu, before going to Kembla where she was given a 12/10 by Avdulla and she made a mess of them late, winning quite impressively. Good racing style, genuine, upside, she appeals.

7 Saveadateforme (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be getting near D-Day. He was a very promising horse early on in his career but as of right now, the wheels have well and truly fallen off. Failed to fire in both runs back from a spell but he’s hard fit now, he maps to do no work in the run and with Blinkers on, there is clear intent to say that this is a kitchen sink job.

Looks a lovely race for the Annabel Neasham trained three year old 11 Plundering (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He resumes after a three run prep in QLD to start his career in the Spring, winning the first two in very impressive style before failing to run out 1400m at Eagle Farm and was spelled. I think the stable have eyes on the Scone Carnival and a Stakes race, and with two trials under the belt, there is clear intent here to resume with bang. Best on the program.

1 Nasturtium (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat for me. Ryan/Alexiou trained five year old that resumes, having not raced since Manikato Night in a 955m race at The Valley when a close up fourth to Direct in what has turned out to be a pretty good form reference. Host of gear changes to get ready for his return and has looked the part in a couple of trials to get ready. Draws okay for him and will press forward and IMO take catching.

9 Miss Jay Fox (Bet Now:  $SP.00) saves her best for the Kenso track and is a must for multiples. She resumed over 1000m at Muswellbrook where she got into a tricky spot behind the speed and tried to build the revs but couldn’t and just looked in need of the run behind Ice In Vancouver. Gets a suck run from the gate and with upside to come…not sure she wins, but a first four threat.

7 King Of The Castle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) might want one more but the return was too good to ignore. That return came on the home deck at Warwick Farm over 1100m where he got back to near last in the run and was never really a threat but didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece behind Curtis Island. Like him up to 1400m and with a more positive ride, he’ll take beating.

6 Ceasefire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. He has been runner up in both runs this time in, the latest coming on Muswellbrook Cup Day when just off the speed and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to General Soho, who has run well in town before so think that form stands up here and he gets J Mac. Despite a tricky gate, he commands respect.

There is a Class 3 1600m Highway at Scone in two weeks time so you’d think that is the target race and that there will be zero intent here for 16 Steplee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) but he didn’t do a bad job first up, which came behind Ka Bling in the race mentioned above when wide no cover for the trip and that burn just told late in the piece. Gets a much more economical run in transit this time around and can be a big improver.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 1 Token Capitalist

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 6 Agnelli
