Nine races will be run and won at Randwick this Saturday, headlined by the Carrington Stakes (1400m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:15) PFD FOOD SERVICES HCP 1000m
Pretty keen here on the Team Snowden colt 3 Rulership (Bet Now: $2.90 TOP ODDS), who is on debut. He’s had two trials this prep in readiness for start one, the latest coming here when leading throughout and bolting up, running good time and beating home Prague, who came out and won impressively at Canterbury. Think he’s smart and should take some beating.
5 Ticket To Ride (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) is a Vancouver filly for the Freedmans that looks a smart type. Debuted in the Gimcrack and worked home very strongly from the back to run third to Every Rose, beaten around 1.5L. Trialled last week at Rosehill and loved the turn of foot she produced when clicked up before being throttled down late. Confident she runs well.
4 Sea Boss (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) creates a bit of interest here. Sebring colt for Kristen Buchanan that is on debut with two trials under the belt in the space of six days, the latest coming on Sunday at Muswellbrook when running second in solid time given the track got worse as the day progressed. Interesting he debuts in town, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 2. (13:50) TAB HIGHWAY HCP 1100m
Market will be the guide as to how forward 1 Mr Wong (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) is. Whether or not he develops in a contender for the Tamworth Country Championships Qualifier remains to be unknown but he’s certainly got his fair share of ability and first up last prep he bolted in at Muswellbrook. No trials, so so watch the market with him.
7 Don’t Cry Mama (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is the very interesting runner for mine. Brenden Mackay trains this gelding, who was good on debut behind Seeyaron at the Gold Coast in what has turned out to be a strong form reference. He then went to a 1000m maiden at Coffs Harbour and finished best to win in fast time relative to the day. Potentially on the path towards the Coffs Harbour Country Championship Qualifier.
9 Know Where To Look (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is a Brett Cavanough trained filly that finished best to win two back at Scone before racing there again over 1350m in what was a brutally run affair and was just run off his legs. Not sure what upside she has left, but she’s hard fit, in form and the form around her does read well enough for this.
Race 3. (14:25) SKY RACING ACTIVE HIGHWAY HCP 1100m
3 Conspirator (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) on top in what looks a race in two. Clint Lundholm has a promising animal here I feel and is on the Country Championships path, so keen to see how he goes here. Had a month freshen up prior to racing over 1100m at Dubbo and he bolted up in sharp time. Stable have a high opinion of him, has gate one and they find Nash to steer.
2 Hellenism (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) is certainly worth a shout in terms of being a leading chance for the Coffs Harbour Country Championships Qualifier in a couple of weeks so really keen to see how she goes here. Big win first up on her home track at Coffs Harbour with no public trials and was pulling hard, but she was far too good for them. Back to a fast run 1100m I like and while her main target is two weeks away, she’s going to take some beating here as well.
Good test for 7 Mr Aloysius (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) but think he’ll run well all the same. Was heavily backed when racing in a 1200m maiden at Corowa last time and the bets were landed as he led throughout and bolted in, running decent time despite being throttled down late. Looks to get on speed and will give a sight I’m sure despite coming back in trip.
Race 4. (15:00) INGLIS MILLENNIUM IN 14 DAYS HCP 2000m
Back to 2000m I do like for the Chris Waller trained 7 Guise (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS). Stable were 50/50 on her at 2400m and last start, three weeks ago behind Dark Pearl, confirmed that she indeed doesn’t see out twelve furlongs, and was found to be lame post race, so back to 2000m with the gap between runs I like. Does she have upside? Probably not, but prior form was sound.
1 Dabiyr (Bet Now: $2.90 TOP ODDS) looks hard to beat with upside to come. Admittedly had things fall into place for him over 1800m here two weeks ago thanks to the crazy speed in front set by Mr Dependable, but he still had to take advantage of it and he did, really surging hard late to get the win. Fitter and up to 2000m, he’s very likeable.
Up in trip should suit 4 Roman Son (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS), who is third up here after racing over 1550m on the Kenso track three weeks ago when not really suited by the race shape and to the eye was disappointing but there were excuses. Up to 2000m is ideal for him and with Tim Clark aboard, with a lack of early tempo outside Fun Fact, do they go forward?
Race 5. (15:40) COOPERS HOTEL NEWTOWN HCP 1600m
9 Mugatoo (Bet Now: $3.10) is such a query here. Kris Lees trains this Australian Bloodstock galloper, who is making his Australian debut. Best form in the UK was at 2000m+, so this may be short of his best, but he was outstanding in a recent Newcastle trial and he might just be better than these. Last 10-15 minutes of betting will give you a guide as to how forward he is, but the races he was accepted for last week, he was well backed in each.
2 Toryjoy (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Chris Waller trained mare who went way too hard on speed two back in the Belle Of The Turf before coming back to1400m here two weeks ago, not using as much petrol to find the front, and she fought on pretty well in defeat when third to Phaistos. Looks the leader and will give cheek again I’m sure, especially if she gets a cheap furlong.
1 Our Candidate (Bet Now: $12.00) is a quality stayer for Kris Lees that resumes. This bloke had a very busy Winter/Spring, highlighted by a string of wins then running third in the Newcastle Cup. Likely has eyes towards the lesser feature staying races, potentially a Sydney Cup? 1600m is short of his best, but does have class on his side.
Race 6. (16:20) CITY TATTS BUSHFIRE APPEAL HCP 1600m
Can 3 Helga (Bet Now: $2.50) reproduce what she delivered here two weeks ago? Was heavily backed, into $2.80 from $4.20, and duly delivered for punters under a lovely steer from an in form Chris Williams, who is building up a really good record with this mare. You’d have to think off that win, up to 1600m will be no issue and is a leading chance.
With Hippo aboard 4 Missybeel (Bet Now: $4.80), you know what you’re going to get with this girl, which is a strong tempo set by her. That’s what happened at Warwick Farm last time out and she took full advantage, darting clear on the turn and holding a safe margin to the line. Harder here, but looks the leader and should take some catching.
She’s one for later on, but 2 Domed (Bet Now: $23.00) does have a touch of class about her when she’s right, so keen to see her resume for John Thompson. Hasn’t raced since the Epona last year when midfield behind Semari, and I dare say that is a race the stable will target again. Two 1000m+ trials leading in ensures she’s forward enough to run well.
Race 7. (17:00) CARRINGTON STAKES 1400m
6 Gaulois (Bet Now: $7.00) is a James Cummings trained gelding that was trying to force his way into a start on Magic Millions Day via a win in the Buffering, but the tempo was against him and he couldn’t quite get there, but his run in defeat was strong. Back home to Sydney and looked to trial very well last week at Rosehill. Hard to beat against these.
11 Southern Lad (Bet Now: $2.35) is a bit unknown at 1400m, but he does get a good speed in front of him here and should relax, which is what he did two weeks ago when bolting up here under a lovely ride from Tom Marquand. I think the trip is the only knock with him because he does tick most boxes against this lot.
It’ll be interesting to see what the tactics will be when it comes to 4 Passage Of Time (Bet Now: $8.50). I think his best chance of winning will be if they lead, because I think when he doesn’t lead and dominate from the front, he tends to struggle. Was 1400m back to 1200m two weeks ago here and couldn’t dash with them when fourth to Southern Lad. Back up in trip, he’s worth including.
Race 8. (17:40) MARK ALATI BOOKMAKERS HCP 1100m
Class/brilliance gets 10 Pandemic (Bet Now: $2.70) home IMO. Quality three year old for James Cummings that resumes after a very sharp Winter/Early Spring campaign to start his career, which ended with a third in the Heritage behind a potential Group l colt in Standout. Randwick trial win was outstanding and he’s ready to go I think.
Is 8 Sir Elton (Bet Now: $3.20) a contender or pretender? He is first up here, so has improvement to come, but if he’s going to reach the heights expected by some, he’s got to be winning this. Adam Duggan trains this quality three year old, who is resuming but has looked outstanding in two trials in readiness for his return. Hard to beat, but from a betting perspective, happy to watch.
14 Patriot (Bet Now: $71.00) is certainly worth a throw at the stumps here at the odds for John Sprague. First two runs back this time in were good before racing in a fast run 1000m on the Kenso three weeks back and loved the way he found the line late when fifth to Rare Episode. Bigger track and extra 100m are big ticks and should be strong at the end.
Race 9. (18:15) EDNEY RYAN GROUP HCP 1400m
5 Superium (Bet Now: $2.00) is a hard fit/in form galloper for Joe Pride who is looking like he’s crying out for more ground and he gets it here. Could easily make a case that he should have won several weeks ago at Randwick, but the mid race breather suited those on speed and allowed them to kick on, with Superium surging late to just miss, with Embracer franking that form last Saturday. 1400m looks perfect and am keen on him.
Could easily have something on 2 Laure Me In (Bet Now: $8.00). Had his first run for David Pfieffer over 1400m at Randwick four weeks ago and off a moderate tempo, I thought he was one of the runs of the day, closing off with real purpose to run fourth to Leviathan. Think he wants further, but that resumption was outstanding.
1400m on the big track looks an idea set up for the John Sargent trained 13 Come Along (Bet Now: $12.00). Loved the way he found the line to win two back at Kembla before racing over 1400m at Warwick Farm where he was back off a slow speed and couldn’t produce the necessary finale but was still very good in defeat. He races as if he wants further, but 1300m-1400m is his go in life.
