Race 1. (11:43) Sky Racing (Bm85) 1110m
10 Bews (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Jan 25 at the Sunny Coast when back and making up headway without threatening over 1200m behind Metalart. Soft trial work under the belt but flies fresh so watch betting.
9 Gumdrops (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Price/Kent, she now finds herself with Chros Waller. Her last run came in the Alinghi during the Spring at Caulfield when midfield behind Niance. Given a good break, switched camps and her trial work has been encouraging, so watch betting.
3 National Choice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a sneaky chance at odds. He resumed over 1000m at the Sunny Coast, his first run since Nov 2023. He was run off his legs but the last 100m/through the line, he warmed up really nicely. Fitter, up in trip, Nash on, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 2. (12:18) The Star (Bm85) 1350m
12 Sir Artie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me in what looks an open contest. He resumes for Team Archibald after ending last prep with two wins at Warwick Farm where each time he found under pressure to fend them off and score. Not a noted fresh horse but his trials have been strong and has a good racing style.
I was really keen on 13 Tavs (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) to get a start in the BRC Sprint but instead he runs here and is one of the hardest to beat despite the wide gate. He is three weeks between runs since making an absolute mess of them over 1400m at Eagle Farm. If he can overcome the gate, he’ll be around the mark.
14 Without Revenge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over this trip at Ipswich when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Sha Of Gomer. Fitter, he’ll be strong late…knockout hope.
Race 3. (12:53) Bill Carter Stakes 1350m
1 Sunrays (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the one for me. She resumed two weeks ago in the Ken Russell where she was off the bit from a fair way out while Beadman was on speed and absolutely trucking. He made a mess of them but Sunrays stuck on really well in defeat I thought. Better set up here, she appeals.
2 Ha’Penny Hatch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a nice juvenile for Paul Shailer. She was several weeks between runs when racing in the Calaway Gal a few weeks ago and tried hard, looming to win but just found one better in Dragonne Rouge. Like her with that run under the belt, she’ll be strong late…like her.
4 Sweet Pretender (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. She ran in the Calaway Gal where she got a fair way off the speed and chased with purpose in the straight when third to Dragonne Rouge. Like her up to 1350m and if she’s within range, she has the finale to be dangerous.
Race 4. (13:28) Chief De Beers 1110m
3 King Kapa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks suited back to 1110m and away from WFA after racing in the Victory Stakes three weeks ago when outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Libertad. Better set up for him this time around and is hard to beat if there is petrol left in the tank.
1 Cannonball (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. Three weeks between runs since contesting the Victory Stakes where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, his finale was quite good behind Libertad. If he’s within range, he has the finale to win.
4 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Rob Heathcoate trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Feb 1 here when on speed and felt the pinch late when down the track behind Safework. Given a good break, recent trial was solid, watch betting.
Race 5. (14:03) Darby Mccarthy 1110m
3 Amelita (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Chris Waller. She hasn’t raced since March 29 when far from disgraced in the World Pool Classic down the straight at Flemington behind Kiwi filly Alabama Lass. Two tick over trials since have been strong so for mine, there is intent. Watch betting.
1 Mayfair (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Fastnet Rock that resumes for GaiBott. He is first up, having not raced since the Hobartville in the Autumn when leading and just felt the pinch late in the piece behind Broadsiding. Given a break and he has looked strong in trials, so watch betting.
12 Pride To Follow (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is better suited here vs the Gold Coast Guineas two weeks back when outclassed but didn’t disgrace herself in defeat behind Bosustow. That form clearly reads well for this so for mine, she is in with a shout at a price.
Race 6. (14:38) Magic Millions Mile 1600m
6 Thalassophile (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the way I am going. Chris Waller trianed mare that trialled up very well I thought prior to resuming in the Hawkesbury Crown where she was ridden as if it was a barrier trial, drifting back and failed to get involved. Better set up here and there looks to be intent with J Mac on.
3 Roots (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is getting near D Day. She resumed in the Hawkesbury Crown where she got into a decent spot off the speed but she couldn’t pick her feet up on the track and was plain late. Fitter, up in trip and back miles in grade/depth, she is in the mix.
13 Torabella (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can run a much improved race for Tony Gollan. She ran two weeks back in the Silk Stocking when struggling on the bog and was never really a factor behind Floozie. The rise to 1600m I like, she loves Doomben and firmer footing is a big tick.
Race 7. (15:17) The Roses 2000m
Very keen to be with 1 Benagil (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). She is the best filly in the race, by some distance. The trial last week at Caulfield Heath was a brilliant piece of work and the way she gave them a start and a beating in Adelaide was just so impressive. I think she has a bit on them.
6 Philia (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very progressive filly heading in the right direction for David Vandyke. She won the Princess Stakes several weeks ago where she got better as the race went on and was quite dominant late in the piece. Off that effort, 2000m is fine and she’s one of the leading contenders.
9 Pleasure Artist (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can run a much improved race for Team Freedman after racing in the Gold Coast Bracelet where she couldn’t pick her feet up in the conditions, finishing down the track behind impressive winner Pinito. Like her up to 2000m and on firmer footing, she’s a big improver.
Race 8. (15:57) Doomben Cup 2000m
I think there is a bit of disrespect towards 12 Pride Of Jenni (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) and while I don’t think she is the horse she was 6-12 months, her last start win at Caulfield tells me she’s good enough to measure up and take this out given she lumped 61kg, led throughout and was strong to the line. She’ll lead this field up, run along and look the winner for a long way. Hopefully can cling on.
1 Antino (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be respected given how dominant he was in the Hollindale two weeks ago. The ride from Shinn was 12/10 but even allowing for that, gee he was dominant and made an absolute mess of them. If Shinn can get him to jump clean and settle handy, he’ll take a power of beating.
9 Osipenko (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying I think for Chris Waller. He was good late in the piece in the All Aged first up before going to the Hawkesbury Cup when off speed and kept chasing with purpose behind Punch Lane, with that form franked via Tavi Time in the Scone Cup. Hard fit, 2000m, juice in the track, he appeals.
Race 9. (16:30) Brc Sprint 1350m
12 Coleman (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He resumed three weeks ago in the Victory Stakes where he was back and never really a factor when down the track behind Libertad. I like hm up to 1350m and J Mac is back on. D Day re his Stradbroke aspirations.
11 War Machine (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it, that win coming at Caulfield where he gave them a start and a beating, which followed a luckless effort in the Hareeba at Mornington. Hard fit, has eyes on the Stradbroke, he appeals.
6 Attractable (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Sara Ryan trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since the Scone Cup last year when leading and just feeling the pinch late behind Sky Lab. He has had 12 months off and with three trials under the belt, he’s ready to go I say, so watch betting.
