Race 1. (15:28) Macmahon (Rs1mw) 2200m
7 Kinellins Legacy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a lightly raced filly for Luke Fernie that is heading in the right direction and off a win, she rates as one of the hardest to beat. Just missed out on the win two back over 2100m here before going to 2200m at Belmont where she gave them a start and a beating. She’s in form, she is on the up…one to beat, and clearly.
4 Zackariah Beau (Bet Now: $SP.00) is ten years of age but I think he’s racing in just about career best form. Gave them a start and a beating to win two back at Narrogin before proving that was no fluke with a win here over three weeks back at 1800m. He’s racing like 2200m will be fine and the way he’s racing, I don’t think you can dismiss him.
5 Comealilbitcloser (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very hard gelding to catch at times, but his best is good enough to be dangerous. He ran over 2100m at the Belmont midweeks last time when near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get the win when third to Kernan Rock. Not sure I could back him to win but he’s a must for exotics.
Race 2. (16:03) National Pump And Energy Plate 1000m
2 Bondi Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice mover for Sharon Miller. Son of Bondi that is on debut off the back of a trial at Lark Hill last Tuesday where he was on speed throughout before being clicked up, asked for an effort, and he responded well to win and win nicely. Tricky gate, but he looks a professional and I don’t think this is a deep 2YO race.
1 Rise To Glory (Bet Now: $SP.00) has an engine under the hood. Susan Olive trained gelding that debuted at this track/distance several weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground, back to near last, and while he was never a winning threat, he made up a stack of ground and was one of the eye catchers of the meeting I thought behind Madhi Girl. If he’s within range, he has the finale to win.
3 Boyz Lite Up (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Playing God gelding for Neville Parnham that is on debut. This guy has had two trials this prep in readiness for start one where each time he has been okay without setting the world on fire but the stable has had a good season with their juveniles so I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 3. (16:39) Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly) 1000m
5 Bisector (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top. Simon Miller trained mare that comes here over three weeks between runs since racing over this track/distance. She got into a decent spot near the speed and tried her guts out but had to settle for a third to Bayezid. She does tend to race well on the fresh side and gets a kind map. Plenty in her corner to say she’s hard to beat.
7 My Baby Blue Jean (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Mitch Pateman, having not raced since Jan 28 at Mount Barker when getting run of the race stuff behind the speed but didn’t have the finale to go with them late in the piece behind Russian Sniper. Good with fresh legs and with a decent racing style, she can threaten.
4 Desert Vixen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Simon Miller trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since June 17 when ending the prep on a high with a win at Belmont. She is a good fresh horse and has a touch of quality on her side against these, so watch the market and see what it does.
Race 4. (17:19) Vale Brian Richards Hcp 1200m
6 Cheeky Charlotte…(Bet Now: $SP.00) how good is she? 2/2 to start her career, with this Luke Fernie trained filly winning impressively on debut over 1000m here before going to 1200m at Belmont where she led throughout and was dominant in the run to the line. Good test here against likely types but I do think she is a likely type herself.
3 Wubin Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality filly for Colin Webster that resumes. This girl had a two run Belmont prep in the Winter to start her career and was quite dynamic each time in winning them both. Could have easily been a Carnival contender but the stable kept her on ice and I thought her trial a few weeks ago was strong. Market watch to see if she’s ready.
10 Olivia’smemumma (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Universal Ruler filly that is resuming. This girl hasn’t raced since Dec 3 at Pinjarra when placing over 1000m down the straight, closing off with purpose. First up at 1200m signals intent, and despite no public trial, I think she’s a market watch for sure. Knockout hope.
Race 5. (18:00) The Greycroft Trophy (Bm72+) 1200m
3 Live To Tell (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good filly for Simon Miller that makes her long awaited return to the track. She hasn’t raced since the Karrakatta last year where she was outstanding in defeat behind Super Smink but was held into second. First up at 1200m tells me there is clear intent, potentially with an eye towards The Quokka and looking to get a slot, so I say she’s here to play and make a statement.
6 Ice Pick Nick (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Maher/Eustace, he now finds himself with Dan Morton. He was hit and miss when racing in Victoria but his best saw him be a Saturday class horse, so the talent is there. Perhaps the change of scenery will do him good and his trial work has been strong.
1 Flying Missile (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Neville Parnham since racing at this track/distance when attempting to lead throughout and gave a mini kick but couldn’t quite see it through behind Red Fifty Three. Not sure she is good enough to win but with a more economical run, she can run top four.
Race 6. (18:42) Unite Resourcing (Bm66+) 1000m
8 Tycoon Harry (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Short course three year old for Jim Taylor that has won two on the bounce. Narrow but strong win at Belmont two back before going to Bunbury two weeks ago where he produced sustained speed from the front and he was much too good. Good racing style, 1000m specialist…hard to get past.
4 Indie Ruler (Bet Now: $SP.00) is much better suited here I feel and can bounce back. He ran down the straight last Saturday at Pinjarra where he was on speed but he found a hot sprint race and was just outclassed late when fourth to Nurhaci. Back to this level, lands near the front, hard to get past.
5 Sky Duke (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He comes here with fresh legs for Neville Parnham, having not raced since New Years Day over this track/distance when on speed and failed in the straight, finishing down the track behind Brave Venture. He does race well on the fresh side and this isn’t an overly deep race.
Race 7. (19:17) Amelia Park (Bm66+) 1600m
6 Bonjoy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Jason Miller trained mare that is absolutely flying and is hard to beat once again. She has won two on the bounce, firstly at Pinjarra before a strong win at Bunbury two weeks ago when back in the small field but came with a well timed run. Tricky gate but she’s flying and she has shown she can give them a start and beat them.
4 Material Witness (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing in a purple patch for William Lewthwaite and commands respect. Strong all the way winner at this track/distance last start before going to Bunbury a fortnight back where he was leading again and gave a strong kick but had no answers late for Baramagic. Good racing style, hard fit and in form.
3 Cash Away (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the interesting runner. I was really keen on him last Saturday at Pinjarra but he did zero after having a suck run in transit. Yes, held up, but he didn’t finish it off at all and was terrible. The runs prior suggested a win was near so perhaps getting back to Ascot can see him run an improved race.
Race 8. (19:55) Detonator Stakes 1800m
4 Black Fantasy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is clearly the one to beat for mine. Team Pearce trained gelding that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the Perth Cup where he just didn’t run the 2400m out strongly enough behind Casino Seventeen. I reckon beyond 2000m at this level sees him out so fresh and back to 1800m is ideal and his recent trial was very good. Keen on his chances.
1 Casino Seventeen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the Perth Cup champ that returns after that triumph, where he gave them a start and a beating under Pike, lifting him late to win. No tick over trial but he has residual fitness and quality about him. Market will be the guide as to how he’s going into this and whether he’s ready or needs the run.
2 Marocchino (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. His last run came in the Ted Van Heemst when attempting to lead throughout and giving a very strong kick but couldn’t quite finish the job when second to Numerian. He can be hit and miss at times given his racing style, but with it, he does give himself every chance.
Race 9. (20:30) Black Diamond Drilling Services Australia (Rs1mw) 1400m
3 Cerridwyn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Michael Lane and has earned another crack at Ascot. He won two weeks ago on the home deck at Bunbury, lobbing into a beaut spot behind the speed before angling clear and in a driving finish, he was too good. Maps ideally again and hard to knock the way he is racing at the moment.
2 Blazing Tycoon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door and is one of the key chances here. William Lewthwaite trained gelding that ran in the Cerridwyn race from a fortnight back where he got a fair way out of his ground and did make up headway but was never really threatening. If he can settle closer in the run, he’s dangerous.
1 Kelvinator (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Heritage for Fred Kersley that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 29 at Belmont when struggling to pick his feet up in the conditions behind Becalotti. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and has trialled up nicely. Good record at Ascot so watch the market and see what it does.
