Nine races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:30) Darley Hcp 1300m
12 Perfect Radiance (Bet Now: $4.40 TOP ODDS) is a daughter of Snitzel for Kris Lees that was a most impressive debut winner over 1200m at Newcastle, beating the older Fillies and Mares in good style from near the speed and her late splits were impressive. Stable doesn’t bring them to town for nothing, especially juveniles, so very keen to see her.
7 Overlord (Bet Now: $2.35 TOP ODDS) looks to be ticking over beautifully towards the JJ Atkins but would need to win I dare say to assure himself a start in the Group l in a couple of weeks. His run behind Peltzer here a fortnight back was very good, finding the line with real purpose late and the overall time was fast, albeit with a track that got worse as the day progressed. Like him up to 1300m and should prove hard to beat.
10 Achiever (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is a stablemate of Overlord that does have a good wet track placing next to his name so that has him in the mix here. Ran fourth at Warwick Farm last time out and loomed to win, but couldn’t finish it off, eventually finishing a close up fourth. Gets gate one and Blinkers first time to sharpen him up.
Race 2. (12:05) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1000m
Leaning towards 15 Biscara (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) for Matty Dale. Really strong win first up at Gundagai before racing during the Wagga Carnival where she produced really good late splits nearer the inside, which was quicksand, in running fourth. Does seem to be a filly that likes racing on the fresh side and give in the track should be no issue.
3 Tejori (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) can continue her winning ways here. Was on her when she won the Highway over 1200m here two weeks ago and I think was helped by a somewhat slow early tempo and the fact that the inside lanes were dynamite early on in the day. 1200m sees her out IMO, so back to 1000m is no issue and I’d love to see her ridden with cover.
8 Tallis (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) is a Colt Prosser trained three year old that resumes. Stable has had previous success when it comes to the Highway thanks to Haames so I’d be respecting this progressive son of Direct Charge, who hasn’t raced since December 14 when a close up fifth in a Highway over 1000m here behind Moore Euros. Recent Taree trial was quite god so I’d watch the market.
Race 3. (12:40) Sporting Chance Foundat.-bm74 2000m
Think 4 Mocambo (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) is worth another chance. To the eye, he was disappointing behind Navy Cross at Canterbury, but it was a day where making up significant ground was a tough ask, so I’d be willing to forgive that run. Two runs prior to start the prep suggested he was knocking on the door to win, so have to forgive and forget last start.
What to do with 3 Foxborough (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS). She was a most impressive winner of the Wagga Guineas during their Carnival, spanking her rivals and seemingly handling the heavy conditions best. Did she beat much? I’m saying no, but only have to go to the Spring to see the form around her and I don’t think 2000m will be an issue.
9 Just Society (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) looks a progressive three year old for John O’Shea. He comes through the Navy Cross race from a couple of Wednesdays back at Canterbury when taken back from the wide gate and the way the track played, he was no hope, but loved the way he found the line. He’ll eat up 2000m and can sit much closer in the run.
Race 4. (13:15) Tab Live Vision (bm78) 2000m
11 Loveseat (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) up to 2000m looks a big tick. Very impressive win at Canterbury two back before coming to the 1800m here two weeks ago where she was just run off her legs it seemed, but was okay late behind Bottega. She’ll appreciate getting to 2000m and a wet track, if we do get it, will be no drama for her.
8 New Arrangment (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) is getting close to a win for Chris Waller. Import that has steadily got better with each outing. Last run came three weeks ago on the Kenso track when seemingly getting every chance when third to Yonkers. Think up to 2000m will be fine, J Mac is on from a good gate and wet ground should be okay.
10 Lord Gododdin (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) is a Chris Waller trained stayer that looks to be near a win. Ran over 1900m at Canterbury last time out where he was back near last in the run and worked home pretty well behind Navy Cross. Has Bowman on and from the gate can sit much closer in the run, plus is bred to handle wet ground.
Race 5. (13:55) At Sea Hcp 1100m
1 Passage Of Time (Bet Now: $6.50) is a handy galloper for Joe Pride that resumes. Hasn’t raced since contesting the Carrington Stakes at Randwick back on January 25 when down the track behind Cradle Mountain in what was a fast run race. Two trials leading in have been solid enough and he does have a good fresh record despite being better suited over a bit further.
Looks a lovely race for the John O’Shea sprinter 5 Southern Lad (Bet Now: $1.90). Resumed in the Town Plate at Wagga where Guymer wasn’t able to take advantage of the inside gate and just got too far back, but liked the way he found the line when second to Irish Songs. He saves his best for Randwick, sits off a good speed and will be strong late.
2 Invictus Prince (Bet Now: $18.00) is a fascinating runner. He’s probably best known for finishing second to Winx, but you have to go back to August 2018 to find that and really, he’s done nothing since. Hasn’t raced since March 2019 so clearly has had his issues, but thought the recent Warwick Farm trial wasn’t too bad and stable finds Bowman for the resumption.
Race 6. (14:30) Calyx @ Coolmore Aust. (bm78) 1500m
Have to butter up with 10 Miss Einstein (Bet Now: $3.00). Was keen on her two weeks ago over 1400m here in a similar race and yes, Subpoenaed was unlucky, but after she was gone, Miss Einstein was the next most unlucky runner and if she gets that middle split, she wins. She’s flying this girl and looks beautifully placed to get a deserved win.
Fitter and up to 1500m are two big ticks for 8 Opacity (Bet Now: $6.50). Resumed over 1400m here a fortnight back and paraded like he would need the run. That’s how it panned out. Showed no zip at all and just whacked away behind Soldier Of Love. Think he wants further than this, but he’s a nice type who should improve.
If there is a blowout here, think it’ll be old mate 4 Adana (Bet Now: $19.00), who can turn it up more often than not, but I think his best efforts have come when on wet ground, as we saw last prep when he lapped up a heavy surface at Rosehill. His latest outing behind Wild About Her had merit, clocking good late splits before peaking late. Including him in the Quaddie just in case.
Race 7. (15:10) Exceedance @ Vinery (bm78) 1000m
2 Enfleurage (Bet Now: $3.90) looks the most reliable against these. Talented filly for James Cummings that resumes, having dodged the Denise’s Joy last Saturday to be saved for this. Hasn’t raced since Feb 8 at Caulfield in the Kevin Hayes when a gallant second to the then unbeaten filly How Womantic. Two trials leading in have been good, puts herself on speed and tries hard.
13 Switched (Bet Now: $3.40) is a daughter of All Too Hard for Brad Widdup that resumes. Hasn’t raced since January 18 when near the speed and tiring late when third to Lashes, but was at the end of a long prep and looking for the paddock. Has looked pretty good in a couple of trials, gets right down in the weights and handles wet ground.
7 November Man (Bet Now: $11.00) isn’t a horse you can back to win with confidence but with the right set up, he can blouse these. Resumed a fortnight back on the Kenso track and worked home strongly from the back behind Dirty Work. He’ll spot them a start, but he’ll be charging late, and does love racing at Randwick.
Race 8. (15:50) Octagonal Hcp 1400m
Going for a throw at the stumps with 5 Matowi (Bet Now: $20.00), resuming for Chris Waller. Was a career best prep for him last time in, winning a couple of races and was very consistent right throughout. Just one soft trial, which came on Tuesday at Rosehill in the fog, but from what I saw, he looked to travel really well. Not sure he wants it too wet, but good speed in front, he does no work from the gate and Bossy is 1/1 for him.
6 Outrageous (Bet Now: $6.00) hasn’t done much wrong in two runs back from a spell for Team Hawkes. Definite pass mark here first up behind Snitz before racing on the Kenso track when on speed and battled away well in defeat when third to Phaistos. On paper, his third up record is awful, but if you actually see the runs, they have had merit. Leading chance against these.
9 Oakfield Missile (Bet Now: $12.00) is flying this time in for Damien Lane. Talented mare who was unlucky not to fight out the finish in the Provincial Championships Final before going to Rosehill when given a lovely ride by Clipperton and wore down True Detective, but to be fair, that isn’t a hard task, so a little query on that form, but hard to knock a mare with winning form.
Race 9. (16:30) Sky Racing Active (bm78) 1200m
Think 6 Misteed (Bet Now: $11.00) is back on track and can take this out. Hadn’t really set the world on fire in her first two runs back from a spell but thought she closed off well here two weeks ago when third to the most impressive winner Masked Crusader. Tends to save her best for Randwick and a drop of rain certainly won’t harm her chances.
9 St Covet’s Spirit (Bet Now: $5.00) is bursting to win a race and I think she gets a great chance here. Was very good behind Rubisaki in the James Carr then proved that was no fluke when backing up a week later in the Hawkesbury Guineas and running a beauty from the back when second to Dawn Passage. That form has to be A1 for this kind of race.
3 So Taken (Bet Now: $7.00) is knocking on the door to win one. Thought J Mac gave her a lovely steer three weeks ago on the Kenso track here and loomed to win, but just didn’t have the finale to go with Rocha Clock, who of course ran well in the Inglis Guineas last Saturday, so the form reads well and her last couple of runs indicate a win is close by.
