Nine races have been set down for Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:58) Evie Networks (Bm68) 1200m
2 Starry Eyes (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep for Chris Anderson. He resumed a few weeks back over 1200m here where he got back off the speed but was able to get inside splits and for a few strides, was hailed as the winner, but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a narrow third to Evocator. Fitter, he’s a leading chance.
10 Fumiko (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with her best. Two weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at the Gold Coast where she was one of the better runs of the meeting, closing off with real purpose late in the piece behind This Is One, who had the pattern in its corner and was too good but I really liked the way Fumiko found the line. Fairer track here, hopefully, and she’ll take holding out.
7 Kudu (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Dale Smith trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Nov 24 at the Sunny Coast when down the track. He is now with Smith after formerly being with Jack Bruce and has trialled up really nicely. Hard to beat.
Race 2. (13:33) Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Hcp (C1) 1600m
9 Who Ordered Dafish (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a handy three year old for Kevin Kemp that should take beating against these. He has done little wrong in three starts this time in, the latest run being three weeks ago over 1400m here where he got a fair way back in the run and worked home strongly late in the piece behind Miliarense, beaten around a neck. Like him up in trip and this race isn’t deep.
3 Blue Ray (Bet Now: $SP.00) is two weeks between runs for Jack Bruce since racing over 1800m at the Gold Coast where he got a fair way out of his ground and was never a factor when down the track behind Joe Mama. The run prior at Doomben was strong and I think perhaps getting back to the mile helps his cause.
14 Cryptic Verse (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice mare on the up for Joshua King. She was kept pretty safe in betting when resuming over 1200m at Warwick. She got into a decent spot near the speed and tried her guts out but being first up, condition just gave way late. Up in trip sharply I find interesting but I do respect the stable.
Race 3. (14:08) Ace Plate (C3) 1400m
Keen on 15 Ocean Zar (Bet Now: $SP.00) to bounce back. Totally forgiving of her run three weeks ago at this track/distance when back in the run and made up minor headway, seemingly being quite plain to the eye, but post race was found to have had thumps, so a clear excuse. Dominant win the start prior, off that, she wins this.
Fitter and up to 1400m are two big ticks for 9 Brookhaven (Bet Now: $SP.00). Chris Munce trained gelding that resumed three weeks back over 1200m at the Gold Coast behind This Is One. He got back to near last in the run and did make up some headway but was never really a factor. Good room for improvement and his best is more than good enough to take this out.
3 Pentito (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. Far from disgraced two back in the Sunny Coast Cup before going to Doomben several weeks back where he was ridden with intent and it backfired, as he failed to finish his race off behind Anythink Goes. I think with a more conservative steer, he can run a much improved race.
Race 4. (14:47) Vecchio Property Group Hcp 1000m
4 Zouna (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a sharp colt for Lawrie Mayfield-Smith, a stable that is #flying. This guy was backed with confidence when debuting at Doomben and he made an absolute mess of them after getting into a lovely spot just off the speed, winning very impressively. Back to 1000m from 1110m is no issue, he’ll be strong late…I think good luck beating him.
1 Devine Force (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Munce trained filly that resumes after a two run prep in the Spring where she won both races and each time was impressive from on speed. Kept on ice with the Winter Carnival in mind, dodging the Summer, and her trial last week at Doomben was very good so keen to see how she resumes.
2 El Morzillo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented juvenile for Kelly Schweida that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the Inglis Millennium at Randwick when back, held up at times, but was good late in the piece behind Fully Lit. Back to this level, hard to beat if there is luck from the gate.
Race 5. (15:27) Chemist Warehouse Hcp 1000m
4 Malaboom (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a short course specialist and I think she’ll take beating here for Matty Dale. She resumed over 1000m at Warwick Farm back on Australia Day when on speed and giving a tremendous sight but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Shezanalister, a subsequent Saturday metro winner. Good tick over trial, lands near the front…hard to get past.
8 Booming Lad (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Anderson trained gelding that resumes and is dangerous. His last run came at Eagle Farm on Nov 4 when racing over 1400m. He ran a solid race behind Weigall Tiger but 1400m at this level is a bridge too far. He’s a short course animal IMO and has trialled up really nicely leading. Hard to beat.
11 Szabo (Bet Now: $SP.00) has shown good ability previously in town and off a win, commands respect. She got a beaut run in transit over 800m at Warwick last time and duly saluted. Nit sure she wins, bu5 can run top four.
Race 6. (16:07) Pitcher Partners Hcp (C6) 1000m
13 Apophis (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very promising short course sprinter for Lindsay Gough and despite rising to this level, I am confident she can measure up. He resumed a few weeks ago at this track/distance where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish over the top for a big win. Good improvement to come, he’ll be strong late and is a winner. Hard to beat.
2 Hold On Honey (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained short course animal that will jump on the bunny and prove hard to get past. He did that when resuming three weeks ago at this track/distance, getting complete control in front and gave nothing else a look in, winning quite impressively. Natural upside/improvement to come, he’s going to take beating I’d suggest.
8 Red Rubi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a handy mare for O’Dea/Hoysted that ran third to Hold On Honey in that race mentioned above. She kept finding the line by us was never really threatening behind the stablemate. More genuine tempo, she is an improver for sure.
Race 7. (16:48) Ethos Orthodontics (Bm78) 1200m
2 Mahbaby (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well at the moment. She comes through the Kanazawa race from three weeks back where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, I really liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind the O’Dea/Hoysted galloper. Think with a more positive ride, she’s a definite winning threat.
4 Outlawed (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key chance. Rob Heathcoate trained mare that was backed with confidence when racing a few weeks back at this track/distance when on speed and she tried hard but being first up, condition gave way late when a close up fourth to Kanazawa. Fitter, good racing style, genuine, hard to beat.
3 Crazy Train (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Matty Dunn since racing over 1200m at Doomben where she got a fair way out of his ground and was held up at times but eventually got clear and worked home with real purpose late in the piece when a close up fourth to Northern Express. Has run well at the track/distance previously and off last run, she appeals.
Race 8. (17:28) Gotransit Media Group (Bm78) 1200m
8 Our Magnus (Bet Now: $SP.00) rates highly for Team Geran. He ran over 1200m here a few weeks ago where he had a suck run in transit on the fence and loomed large to win, driving hard but just failed to get there when second to Kanazawa, who led throughout and held on, just. That form clearly reads well for this and for mine, is the one to beat.
12 Fastconi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Nicconi for Nat McCall that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Nov 7 at this track/distance when back in the run and failed to come on behind Richon, who was flying at the time. Trial work to get ready has been more than encouraging and he can sprint well fresh so watch the market.
17 Liberty Steps (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Former Team Hayes galloper that is now with Nat McCall. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 15 at Geelong when keen in the run and failed to come on in a plain effort. Been given a good break and I think his trials leading in for the return have been quite good. His best is more than good enough.
Race 9. (18:08) Ladbrokes Racing Club Hcp 1600m
Back in trip isn’t ideal for 8 Red Wave (Bet Now: $SP.00) but he is a horse who I feel has come back in really good order. He resumed over 1700m at the Gold Coast where he got a fair way out of his ground, against the pattern, and was never a winning threat, but I really liked the way he found the line late behind Goldeel. Fitter…as I said, back in trip a concern, but bigger track, longer straight, that should give him every chance to wind up and finish off strong.
2 Daytona Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well for Kelly Schweida and rates highly. He ran two weeks ago in the Gold Coast Stakes over 1800m where he was near the speed and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to the in form Red Top. Back to the mile is fine, good racing style, hard fit and in form, rates highly.
11 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hit and miss at times but his best is more than good enough to be dangerous. He ran two weeks back at the Gold Coast where he got back to near last in the run and was never a factor when down the track. Likes Eagle Farm and is dangerous if he can settle closer.
