A strong nine race card has been assembled for Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:18) TAB Handicap 1400m

3 Sizzling Babe (Bet Now: $2.35) should be winning again. Should have won here two back here before racing here again a fortnight ago where she was a notable drifter in betting but nobody told the filly that because she won like the $1.50 chance she was in opening markets. Bit more depth this time around, but not enough to warrant being against her. Looks the winner.

Danger

9 Pull Anchor (Bet Now: $5.50) is a daughter of Husson for the Tony Gollan stable who was well backed when debuting at Doomben last Wednesday where she got a fair way back in the run and spotted them too much start but was good late when second to Hit Snooze. I think 1400m on the big track will really suit her and has plenty of upside. A win wouldn’t totally surprise.

Long Shot

6 Don’t Waiver (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Not A Single Doubt colt for Stuart Kendrick who debuted three weeks back at Doomben in the Jewel Prelude and was no hope given The Odyssey walked them in front and sprinted. He’s better than that and the tick over trial looked pretty good behind older horses. Not sure he wins, but off the trials, he does look handy and can run an improved race.

Race 2. (13:57) TAB Handicap 2200m

5 Lucadeal (Bet Now: $7.50) on top. Tony Gollan has a really good batch of Lucas Cranah progeny and this bloke is one of them. Ran over 1800m at the Gold Coast in a maiden last time where Colless gave him an absolute peach of a steer just off the speed and once the split came, he burst through and proved too good. Suited up to 2200m and this race isn’t overly strong.

Danger

7 Missed The Alarm (Bet Now: $17.00) is a progressive looking filly for the Steve O’Dea who won her maiden impressively two back at Grafton before racing over 1800m here two weeks ago where she got a fair way back in the run and was never really likely but finished off okay behind impressive winner Rocknavar. 2200m should be fine and has plenty of room for improvement.

Long Shot

9 Taverne (Bet Now: $18.00) is suited at 2200m I think. Bevan Laming trains this son of Tavistock, who ran over the mile in a Doomben maiden last Wednesday where he really had no chance of winning but finished off quite well when second to American Cat. 2200m should be fine for him and despite being a maiden, I think he can measure up here against this lot.

Race 3. (14:37) Prostate Cancer Australia Handicap (70) 1500m

16 Belle Roc (Bet Now: $4.00) should just about be ready to win. She’s third up for Brian Smith after an inglorious resumption here behind Macewen. Then raced over 1300m and was much better when back and closing off quite well to run a close up third to Zoucara. Looks like she wants further and 1500m should be ideal despite taking on the older horses. Hard to beat.

Danger

6 Ponytales (Bet Now: $4.80) is likeable here for the Gollan camp. Ran over the mile here a fortnight ago where she was given a sweet steer in transit from Du Plessis and she loomed large to win but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to stablemate Get Stuck In. Creeping up in the weights but again looks to get run of the race stuff and Nothdurft is riding in super form.

Long Shot

15 Winning Ways (Bet Now: $18.00) looks a definite improver. Garry Newham trains this filly, who resumed over 1300m here where she got back to near last in the run in a race where the leader/winner absolutely crawled them in front, and when they’re running 33.5 last 600m, those from behind had no chance. Happy to overlook that and give her another look here.

Race 4. (15:17) QTIS Jewel 3YO 1200m

I’m hoping that 3 Defence Missile (Bet Now: $6.00) can turn the tables on Mishani Hustler. This pair clashed in the Prelude three weeks ago at Doomben with the Ben Currie horse getting the job done. The market support said that Defence Missile was ready to win and was given every chance I thought by Lloyd. Just think Mishani Hustler got a cheap furlong or two down the side, which won the race and allowed that horse to give a strong kick late. Hoping the Les Ross galloper can turn the tables.

Danger

That’s nothing against 1 Mishani Hustler (Bet Now: $3.60). He puts himself on speed and is there to be beaten but he keeps finding a way to get the job done and the record says that. He is getting deep into the prep and I’d like to think there will be more pressure in front this time around, which could leave him vulnerable late. He can win, he goes in the quaddie…just not sure I could back him to win.

Long Shot

I reckon 14 Trail of Glory (Bet Now: $20.00) is going well. Sharp turn of foot and luck saw her win first up at Doomben over 1200m before racing at the same track/distance where she was back in a slowly run affair and couldn’t dash quick enough when fourth to Mishani Hustler. Fast run 1200m will be right up her alley because she is a filly who is looking like she wants 1400m.

Race 5. (16:00) TAB Handicap 1000m

11 Frangipani Moon (Bet Now: $15.00) is a David Vandyke trained filly that resumes and she has shown good talent in her short career to date. Had two runs in her first prep, both coming at Ipswich, winning the maiden at start two in impressive fashion in a race which has produced four winners, so the form has been good, and her two trials leading in have been more than encouraging.

Danger

I think 1000m suits 3 Silver Melody (Bet Now: $14.00) perfectly at this level. Speed demon for Kris Lees who was given a lovely front running steer from Avdulla to win over the 1000m at Wyong last time, proving too good for a handy mare in Partners. More depth here and won’t get it easy on speed this time, but 1000m should suit, she’s got a bit of upside left and has good form around her.

Long Shot

10 Munich (Bet Now: $26.00) is a former Team Snowden galloper that had his first run for the Toby Edmonds who had his first run for the new stable over 1050m at Doomben on Feb 27 when leading all the way and despite being the margin being narrow, he toughed it out. Has run some good races in NSW so I think he can measure up here against this lot and is a threat.

Race 6. (16:42) Brisbane Racing Carnival Handicap 1000m

Back Me

I think the double figures on offer for 9 Snitch (Bet Now: $9.50) is pretty good. Ben Currie trains this galloper, who really turned his career around when sent to the Currie stable, winning five on the bounce including a couple in town. The first up record says maybe not, but stable has been flying with their first up runners recently, and this bloke did very well first up last prep at Ipswich and also keep in mind he bolted in off a six week break, so he can sprint well fresh.

Danger

1 Guard of Honour (Bet Now: $4.50) is the interesting runner. Handy sprinter for Kris Lees that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Doveton at Sandown during the Spring where he got back and made up ground late behind Malibu Style. Been given a good break and the two trials in NSW have been quite good to the eye, plus he has run well in Queensland also. Has class on his side.

Long Shot

5 Boomwaa (Bet Now: $12.00) is a stablemate of Snitch who resumed at the Doomben midweeks behind another stablemate in Whycatchim where he did parade with a bit of improvement to come and that’s how he raced, just dying on the run late to run third. Blinkers are back on, so looks to be intent to run well, and Jeff Lloyd steers, so there are a few ticks going for him.

Race 7. (17:18) TAB Handicap (80) 1800m

Back Me

I think 10 High Opinion (Bet Now: $51.00) is worth something small each way. Kris Lees trains this stayer, who has had two runs back from a long break and on face value, he hasn’t done much, but the form from both races in Sydney has been quite good, most notably last time at Rosehill with the runner up Supernova winning last week and looking a Sydney Cup prospect. Third up at 1800m, back in depth, he can fire.

Danger

3 Get Stuck In (Bet Now: $2.20) is continually creeping up in the weights but gee he’s racing quite well for Tony Gollan. Ran over the mile two weeks back where he continued his picket fence in the form line with a pretty dominant win. Creeping up in the weights and up to 1800m is suitable based on the breeding. He’s likeable and should take some beating despite a couple of question marks.

Long Shot

5 Reiby The Red (Bet Now: $19.00) is in ripping form at the moment for the Les Kelly stable. He has won his past two, both coming over the mile at Doomben with the latest coming last Wednesday when given a lovely ride from Michael Murphy and despite some difficulties, he proved too good and class got him home. 1800m should be fine and rates highly here for mine.

Race 8. (17:53) TAB Handicap 1500m

2 Order Again (Bet Now: $3.60) should just about be ready to show his best. Brian Smith trains this five year old, who resumed over 1400m here a fortnight ago where he was near the speed all the way and wasn’t beaten far when fourth to the handy mare Tumbler. You’d like to think the 1500m will suit him second up. Prefer to see him ridden cold and look to ambush late.

Danger

3 Sword Of Justice (Bet Now: $3.40) looks the one to beat on current form. He was absolutely smashed in betting when racing in the Members Cup at Doomben three weeks ago and the bets were landed, with the Ben Currie galloper leading all the way and giving nothing a look in with a commanding all the way performance. Harder here, but he’s going about it really well at the moment.

Long Shot

8 Zamex (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Matty Dunn trained gelding who had trialled up okay prior to resuming in the Tumbler race from two weeks back where he was off the pace throughout and stuck on pretty well in defeat but was never really likely behind the mare, but was only beaten a couple of lengths. He can be hard to trust at times, but the resumption was solid enough to be included.

Race 9. (18:30) Jim Beam Black Carnival Ball Handicap (Class 6) 1200m

A horse who will appreciate a genuine tempo is the Steve O’Dea trained 5 Scallopini (Bet Now: $7.00). Resumed over 1200m at Eagle Farm four weeks ago where he was given a lovely ride by Boris Thornton just off the speed before waiting as long as possible to let him down given he was first up and that patience won the race. He is a second up winner and will love a fast speed.

Danger

9 Spin (Bet Now: $3.70) is the really interesting runner. Team Snowden trains this three year old, who ran over 1200m at Randwick three weeks ago where he worked to the line pretty well late when third to Renewal in a race where I do have suspects on re the strength of the form. Perhaps not as strong for Sydney, but for a Class 6 at Eagle Farm, it does read well, and drawing wide this time of the day should be ideal.

Long Shot

1 Shogun Sun (Bet Now: $7.00) is an above average four year old trained by Kelly Schweida that returns to racing, having not raced since the Sunny Coast Cup on Australia Day when a close up sixth to surprise winner Balboa Rocks in a race where the form has been quite suspect. In saying that, his recent trial was quite good, he likes big tracks and can sprint well fresh.
