23/10/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Belgravia Stakes day

Nine races will be run and won at Ascot this Saturday where it is Belgravia Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out eleven metres for the entire circuit.

4 Snowdome (Bet Now: $4.00) looks a really good mover for Neville Parnham. Chris Parnham had ridden in both trials and sticks for start one. Latest trial was on Monday at Lark Hill where he led throughout and won with plenty in hand. Think he’s pretty smart and can make a winning debut.

2 Kostas Crown (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Team Casey trained juvenile that debuted here two weeks ago. I was keen on his chances based on sharp trial work. He looked the winner when presented but couldn’t quite get past Pot Shot. Better for the run, not dismissing him off one run.

9 Revitup (Bet Now: $10.00) is a daughter of Demerit on debut for Dion Luciani. It’s hard to get a real gauge on the 400m trials but she looked to go about her business, has a soft draw to use and won’t mind give in the track based on breeding. Watch the market and see what it does.

7 Sweet Strawberry (Bet Now: $5.00) on top for me. Brock Lewthwaite trained mare that is a few weeks between runs. Latest run was October 3 at Northam when back off the speed and chasing strongly behind the in form Beanie. Won’t mind give in the track and good lead that Pike sticks.

3 Castillo Del Lago (Bet Now: $3.60) should be suited up in trip for Michael Lane. Last couple of runs have come over 1400m, one of those being a closing third behind the in form Big Screen. Interesting to see what tactics are adopted here, whether they press forward or opt to ride cold. Either way, is a key threat.

1 Our Idyll (Bet Now: $8.50) is the class runner of the field. Comes here second up after reassuming in the Ladies Day Cup at Northam where she found them a bit sharp fresh behind Celebrity Witness. Might need one more, but is in well after the claim and has more upside than most.

I’m with 2 Pure Devotion (Bet Now: $2.15). Team Williams trained mare that resumed over 1400m here two weeks ago. She got a fair way back in the run but didn’t mind her finale when fifth, beaten just under two lengths. Fitter and up to the mile, smaller field, she’ll take beating.

4 Olden (Bet Now: $9.50) has done little wrong this time in and has to be respected. Ran here a fortnight back and did try hard, but couldn’t reel in an impressive Roman Flirt. That form looks strong enough for this. Just depends how he will go getting his toe into the ground.

3 Big Screen (Bet Now: $4.60) won’t mind rain hitting the track given he was a recent winner on a Soft7 at Northam when leading throughout. That was three back. He then went to Belmont and won again before racing here two weeks back when leading and was just nabbed late by Big Bada Boom. That form reads well for this.

9 Antique Jewel (Bet Now: $4.40) should take some beating here for Adam Durrant. She was 1300m to 1800m last time out and worked home strongly from off the speed when third to There’s A Thought. Confident she turns the tables on that horse here and has more upside to come. Keen.

2 Vintage Stock (Bet Now: $8.00) has returned in really good order for Alan Matthews but can’t quite crack it for a win. Last run came four weeks back at Belmont when a closing second to an in form mare, Sugar Cain. She is a winner on soft ground and has a liking for this track.

8 The Cat Ratcher (Bet Now: $26.00) isn’t one of mine but should be around the mark. Ran three weeks back at Kalgoorlie where he was one paced when the sprint went on but stayed on and was sound in defeat when second to Regal City. Doubt he wins, but a first four threat.

2 Angelic Miss (Bet Now: $4.80) on top. Simon Miller trained mare that resumes, having not raced since June 5 when a closing fourth from the back behind the then in form Comfort Me. Just one soft trial to get ready for her return, but it was a good piece of work and she’s 2/2 on soft ground. She’ll do me.

11 Testing Love (Bet Now: $3.30) has a touch of quality about her. Just staying at 1200m is the query because she looks like a horse that wants further. Luckless return at Belmont before going to Geraldton where she looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted. Steps back up to metro level and should prove hard to beat. 1200m and remaining there is the knock.

5 London Miss (Bet Now: $12.00) is a knockout chance. This mare was massive in defeat at Northam last time out. Got stuck five wide no cover for the trip but despite that run, she kept chipping away and was excellent when fifth. If that hasn’t busted her, I think she can run a cheeky race at odds.

7 Secret Plan (Bet Now: $1.80) for me. Team Williams trained gelding that looks to have returned in really good order. Smart win here two weeks ago, sitting off a good speed before angling into clear air and away he went. He was dominant and given his great wet track stats, I’m keen on him here.

4 Magical Dream (Bet Now: $5.00) is a quality mare and a stablemate of Secret Plan that resumes. She hasn’t raced since March 30 when a dominant winner over 1400m here, lumping 59.5kg in the process. One soft trial leading but is unbeaten fresh and a drop of rain won’t hurt.

5 Platinum Bullet (Bet Now: $9.50) has the engine under the hood to give this a shake. This mare last ran in the Marjorie Charleson during the Autumn Carnival where she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Clairvoyance. Good fresh record, trialled well leading in and does save her best for Ascot. Knockout chance.

I’m with 5 Wilchino (Bet Now: $2.45). Dan Morton trained mare that comes here with residual fitness, her last run being an impressive win over 1000m at Belmont back on August 21. There are better horses in this race, but as we say often, 1000m horses are suited in 1000m races and she’s indeed a 1000m specialist.

12 Bright Diamond (Bet Now: $3.50) is the best horse in the race. But 1000m is on the short side. In saying that, she has the right colours and the right trainer/jockey combo. Liked her recent Lark Hill trial, she’ll sit back off a fast speed and launch late. Just depends how much start she concedes.

8 Night Voyage (Bet Now: $46.00) is three weeks between runs since racing on Kalgoorlie Cup Day. He was a touch keen behind the speed and that burn just took away something from his finale when fifth to False Statement. Gets run of the race from the draw and is a horse who saves his best for 1000m.

The inside gate could end up being nasty again for 15 Arcadia Grace (Bet Now: $3.40) but I have to give her another chance. Ugly viewing if you were on her two weeks ago here. She was building momentum nicely but as soon as you had that thought, she got cut out and the last 150m was a barrier trial. If she gets a chance to build the revs, she could put a decent margin on this lot.

4 Liwa (Bet Now: $12.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but she does have a big finish on her. That was the case when sprouting wings from near last to win the race mentioned above from a fortnight back. Will need luck from the gate, but if she gets a similar set up, she can threaten.

10 Searchin Roc’s (Bet Now: $10.00) could be a Carnival contender. She resumes for David Harrison after a fruitful Winter prep, which saw her win three on the bounce. Resumes without a trial, but she looks a strong filly who might find 1200m a bit sharp but will be charging late.

Tricky race to close out the meeting. Landed with 2 Pym’s Royale (Bet Now: $14.00). Tick over three weeks between runs since contesting the Hannans at Kalgoorlie. CJP gave him a peach steer and he was there to win, but couldn’t quite finish the job when fourth to Startthefriar. He won’t mind give in the track and has a liking for Ascot. Each way in the get out.

4 Charleton Eddie (Bet Now: $8.50) would be a good thing if this was a firm deck. But with the rain and likely wet track on the cards, that does concern me given he is a great dry track horse. Resumed here two weeks ago and to the eye, was awful behind Graceful Girl, but was found to be coughing post race, so there were excuses. His best sees him win. Watch the market.

6 Bad Wolf (Bet Now: $7.50) is a beauty for Ashley Maley. He ran over this track/distance two weeks back when off the speed and chasing but picked up and was good late in defeat behind talented mare Kissonallforcheeks. If he can sit a pair or two closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 15 Arcadia Grace

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 9 Antique Jewel

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 2 Pym’s Royale
