23/1/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gawler

A strong nine race meeting will be run and won at Gawler this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

I think there is enough class in 4 Bribery (Bet Now: $2.70) to get her home here. Resumes for the McEvoy camp and it will be really interesting to see if she has progressed physically from her juvenile season to three years old. We see so often that these juveniles don’t progress, but she has been given a good break since her last run, which was in May. Looked sharp in an Oakbank trial and finds a winnable race to resume in.

2 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Team Jolly trained three year old that is four weeks between runs since recording an impressive win over 1200m at Morphettville. Loved the way he attacked the line from off the speed and came clear late to win and win well. Think he finds another winnable race here.

I’ve got a bit of time for 5 Mrs Mourinho (Bet Now: $4.40). Daughter of Smart Missile for the Stokes team that was a dominant maiden winner fresh at Strathalbyn before going to Morphettville where she got back and closed off okay without really threatening behind The Big Goodbye. If she can sit closer in the run, she’ll be dangerous.

5 Decent Raine (Bet Now: $2.60) looks to have some talent. She won a trial on the same morning as Hauraki Golf and ran faster time in winning her respective trial. Thought the colt looked to go better despite going slower, but she does draw well and does get Vorster steering, which isn’t a negative.

3 Gosden (Bet Now: $2.90) is a Not A Single Doubt colt for Will Clarken and Aquis that debuts. He is bred to be a handy one, especially early on, and his jumpouts to prepare for start one indicate he has good ability. Will be fascinating to see what the market does with him with so many unknowns.

1 Garrire (Bet Now: $4.50) is the one with race experience and I think has to be respected. Debuted at Murray Bridge two weeks ago and worked home strongly from off the speed when second to Saasmit, with a good gap to third, which is a positive sign. Keen to see how he goes against this lot.

Happy to butter up with 3 Meadows Young Buck (Bet Now: $4.50). Was on him two weeks ago at Murray Bridge over 1800m where he attempted to lead throughout and looked the winner until the final few strides when getting a stitch and was grabbed late by Von Costa Glass. Like him back to 1700m, should find the front and prove hard to run down.

4 Magnetic Edge (Bet Now: $3.90) has been up forever it seems for John Hickmott but continues to race at a pretty decent level. He comes through the Von Costa Glass race from two weeks ago at Murray Bridge. He didn’t exactly quicken when asked to go but stayed on and kept coming to finish a close up third. He can win this with a more reasonable tempo in front.

Think the rise to 1700m suits 8 Motell (Bet Now: $5.00). He was a few weeks between runs when racing over the mile at Murray Bridge a fortnight ago. Was wide no cover but kept finding the line and was really good in defeat I thought behind Unlaced. With better luck in the run, he can take this out.

Things need to fall into place for 6 La Richesse (Bet Now: $2.40) to win, but if they do fall into place, I don’t think they will be beating her. Bit surprised she started $14 when resuming at Murray Bridge two weeks ago and she was dominant, leading throughout and that is the key to her. She needs control in front. Once she gets that, she’s a hard horse to get past.

2 Diplomatic Measure (Bet Now: $4.20) is a very interesting runner. Team McEvoy trains this gelding, who resumes, having not raced since May 16 at Flemington when down the track behind Sikorsky. Unbeaten fresh and has had two solid trials to get ready. Stable is going very nicely at the moment so watch the market and see what it does.

5 Hankstar (Bet Now: $4.80) is on the seven day back up for Peter Nolan after racing at Murray Bridge last Saturday. Thought there was a bit of ticker about the win given he was wide no cover for the trip yet kept finding under pressure and on the line was too good. Repeats that effort here and he’s in the mix.

Hard to get away from the Phillip Stokes trained gelding 2 Taken Off (Bet Now: $2.35). There was a bit of class and arrogance about his win at Gawler three weeks ago. He showed more intent from the barriers to sit near the front of the pack in chasing the tearaway leader. He ambled up to that horse and then drew right away late for a most impressive win. He’ll go on with it now.

3 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Paul Seater trained mare that is holding her form quite nicely this time in. Ran over 1200m at Gawler three weeks ago in what was a fast run race. She had to chase the speed and was entitled to drop away but kept chipping to the line and was game in defeat behind Street Life. Racing well and can win this.

The best way to ride 6 Little Rich Boy (Bet Now: $6.50) is aggressive from the outset. That is what they tried to do last Saturday at Murray Bridge when heavily backed. Problem was they found Mrs Hyde in the same race and she only knows one way to run. Little Rich Boy did all the chasing and by the time he beat her off, he was a tired horse and had to settle for third. If he leads, he’ll take some running down.

If gate one is used to advantage, think 8 Arctic Blaze (Bet Now: $26.00) will run a beauty. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when back near last in the run and working home strongly late when third to Khani Star. Gets a 2kg weight pull on that mare here and hopefully can settle much closer in the run.

1 Cotillion (Bet Now: $6.50) is nearing a win for Michael Hickmott. Four weeks between runs when racing over 1200m at Murray Bridge a fortnight ago where she got back to near last in the run and was a real eye catcher late when a closing fourth to Second Slip. Fitter, for an in form stable, hard to beat.

Darren Magro has done an outstanding job in placing 5 Khani Star (Bet Now: $3.50). Last two starts have resulted in wins at this track/distance. Two back won a 64 Final before dropping back to a 56 and bolting. Now is in a 68 and despite being a two time recent Saturday metro winner in similar grade, she’s just so well in at the weights. Have to give her respect.

10 Promoter (Bet Now: $2.80) is a son of Foxwedge for Michael Hickmott who resumes. This four year old hasn’t raced since September 9 over 1400m here when doing a power of work to be near the speed and tiring late, finishing down the track. Showed enough in the first prep to suggest she can measure up.

9 May Be Fate (Bet Now: $4.00) definitely deserves another chance. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago where he knuckled at the start and nearly dumped the rider, so that put pay to his chances behind Taken Off. Prior form suggested a win was near and finds a winnable race.

Wouldn’t be surprised if there was support for 11 French Rock (Bet Now: $8.00). He tends to save his best for when he has fresh legs and is first up here, keeping in mind that first up last prep at Murray Bridge he was heavily backed and nearly saluted. Can see him getting a suck run off the speed and being strong late.

9 Fearless Vision (Bet Now: $3.70) deserves another chance. Michael Hickmott trained filly that resumed over 1000m at Murray Bridge two weeks back where she got back to near last in the run and was never really a winning factor despite making up ground late. She can settle much closer in the run and take some beating.

1 Damascus Moment (Bet Now: $4.20) finds a very winnable race to bounce back into some positive form. Has contested 70+ and strong 0MW races this prep and has run well without winning. Drops to what looks a moderate 60 and with luck in running, a win here wouldn’t shock at all.

5 Olive Grove (Bet Now: $17.00) is a knockout chance if he can use the inside gate. Has the awful racing pattern of flopping out the back and working home, which is what he did three weeks back behind Four Of A Kind. If Opperman can kick up and use the inside draw, he’ll be dangerous at a price.

Think 12 Magic Dee (Bet Now: $3.30) can measure up to these. Not sure she beat much at Strathalbyn last time, but gee she was dominant. Had the suck run behind the speed before Gatt eased her wider and in a matter of a couple of strides, it was race over and she gave them a spanking. Off that, think she runs well here.

4 The Sidekick (Bet Now: $10.00) looks in for a good prep and given the lack of depth engaged here, think he’s hard to beat. Resumed over an unsuitable trip at Murray Bridge and was run off his legs early but loved the way he closed off late in the race. Can sit closer in the run this time around and has more upside than most.

6 Galcrum (Bet Now: $10.00) is an honest customer who should be thereabouts. Ran over this track/distance three weeks back when near the speed and battling away well although she had her chance when third to Li’l Hank. Think that form reads okay for this race and she does save her best for Gawler.

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 6 La Richesse

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 8 Arctic Blaze
