Race 1. (12:05) Quayclean Hcp 1200m
Fitter and up to 1200m, I am buttering up with 9 Sensical (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Peter Moody. She was backed with confidence when resuming here two weeks ago over 1100m. She had a good run in transit and presented to win at the top of the straight but couldn’t quite get there when second to impressive winner Spicy Margs. Like her up in trip, fitter, runs on the board, hard to beat.
1 Gangitano (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a smart colt for Team Yargi that resumes. I thought he would be a Blue Diamond horse in the Autumn but he didn’t fire in the Prelude and was spelled immediately. Given a good break and from what I’ve seen, his trial/jumpout has been strong. Could find a maiden at the Provincials and be a moral but resuming in town, to me, signals intent.
3 Orion The Hunter (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the speed and give them something to chase. He was big odds when resuming over 1000m at Sale, leading throughout and I thought he was quite strong to the line in getting the job done. Off that, 1200m is no issue and with the racing style from first up, I think he has to be given respect.
Race 2. (12:40) Mrc First Renewal Edward Bode 2400m
2 King’s Crossing (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat against these. He ran three weeks ago in the Mahogany Final at Flemington where he got back to near last in the run but worked home strongly from the back to run second to the very much in form First Immortal. That was his first run in four weeks so he has good room for improvement and the depth here is nowhere near as strong.
3 Moveforlex (Bet Now: $SP.00) is having his third run for Patrick Payne. Too bad to be true at Mornington over 1500m on a heavy deck before finding firmer footing when racing a fortnight back over 2000m here where he ran a much improved race, sitting just off the speed and finding the line well enough when second to Torranzino. 2400m, I think, should be fine, and commands respect.
7 Daddy Frank (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Maher/Eustace trained three year old that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since June 14 at Sandown when near the speed throughout but was forced to make his run nearer the inside, which was the quicksand, so be forgiving of the run behind Whakamana. Trip, I think, will be fine, and respecting the stable.
Race 3. (13:15) Vobis Gold Stayers 2400m
4 Ferago (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a stayer with good upside/progression and is off a win. That came three weeks back over 2500m at Morphettville where it became survival of the fittest and in a slog to the line, he finished best and was quite dominant in the run to the line. 2400m at this level should be no issue and being only fourth up, he’s got to be respected as a key winning chance.
3 Teewaters (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Archie Alexander since racing over 2600m at Flemington in the Banjo Paterson Final. He got back off the speed and in a true staying test, he was somewhat found wanting late in the piece behind the very much in form Mimi’s Award. He did win this race last year…is he going as well 12 months on? I’d say no, but maybe he doesn’t need to be to feature.
6 Khoekhoe (Bet Now: $SP.00) has run well at Caulfield previously and I think firmer footing is a big tick. He found a bog at Sandown last time and just struggled to finish the race off in the conditions behind Claidheamh Mor. He is much better on top of the ground and can roll on speed, so he gets a decent set up here IMO to run a much improved race.
Race 4. (13:50) Vobis Gold Ingot 1400m
8 Mollynickers (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks extremely hard to beat here IMO. Peter Moody trained filly that resumed over 1200m in a Moe maiden where she looked a moral on paper and while she took a while to get into her work, what I liked was the last 200m where she knuckled down and was quite strong to the line in winning. Love her up to 1400m and with good upside to come, clearly rates highly.
4 Inexorable (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise in trip. Son of Dandino that debuted over 1100m on the Ballarat Synthetic. He got back to near last in the run but I loved the way he found the line late in the piece when second to Piastri, clocking some of the better late splits of the meeting. Bred to eat up 1400m and if he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take holding out.
9 Balgowan (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for Mick Kent. She debuted over 1400m at Werribee where she was near the speed throughout and kept chasing but had to settle for a second to a pretty smart filly in Rise At Dawn. Had jumped out well prior to the debut and with Craig Williams aboard, ideal racing pattern, she appeals as a knockout hope.
Race 5. (14:25) Royal Meeting All Class (Bm70) 1400m
10 Movader (Bet Now: $SP.00) is such a consistent animal for Maher/Eustace. Was racing very well without winning but that all changed at Sandown last time when letting down nicely and just getting the job done over a very much in form Albanian I Am, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Not sure she has got upside but only has to hold her form to be around the mark.
2 Cuban Link (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Greg Eurell trained mare that is one of the key chances. She is several weeks between runs since racing over 1300m at Sandown when doing work early from the wide gate to find a forward spot but credit to her, she kept finding the line but just found one better in Anahita. Back up in trip, firmer footing, she appeals.
9 Divine Diosa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Simon Zahra trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced March 18 at The Valley when down the track in the Mystic Journey on All Star Mile Day behind Queen Air, perhaps running her race behind the barriers when in a real foul mood. Two jumpouts to get ready for the return and can sprint well fresh, so watch the market.
Race 6. (15:05) Senet Gambling Law Experts Hcp 1100m
1 Kin (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. James Cummings trained filly that let down with real purpose to win here two weeks ago, settling back off the speed before coming with a well timed run under Gaudray and she was dominant in the run to the line. Back to her own sex, and she looks really well in at the weights after the last start. Clearly the one to beat for me.
2 Cotel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a big improver back to this level. She ran three weeks back in the Creswick when back off the speed and did make up some level of headway but was never really a threat behind Renosu. 1/1 at the track, races best when near the speed so with Linda on, back to this level, hopefully that eventuates.
10 Lacemaker (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Price/Kent trained filly that comes straight to town off the back of a dominant maiden win on the Pakenham Synthetic. Did she beat much? Probably not, but the manner in which she put them away was impressive, and she ran decent time. Good test here against some likely types but down in the weights, on speed, she’ll give a sight.
Race 7. (15:45) Stow Storage Solutions Hcp 1200m
2 Validated (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given respect. Team Blanch trained gelding that comes to Melbourne off the back of a strong first up win over this trip at Murray Bridge, giving them a start and a beating, winding up hard from the back to win impressively. He’s a real race horse that is a line finder and despite the relative weights not being too ideal, he is so genuine that he has to be respected.
5 Boldinho (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with his best. Market kept him quite safe in betting when resuming here two weeks back at Caulfield where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, he did make up headway and was pretty solid in defeat behind Kin, beaten five lengths. Doesn’t need to get as far back this time around and has more upside than most.
9 Tapo (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a sight. She did that two weeks back here and gave a sight at a price but just couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch late behind Kin. The end of 1200m at metro level is the query with her, but with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance to look the winner for a fair chunk.
Race 8. (16:20) Bletchingly Stakes 1200m
4 Regardsmaree (Bet Now: $SP.00) wasn’t too bad in the Monash. Chasing from the outset when resuming, I didn’t mind the way he found the line late. He might want want one more and 1400m+, but he does have a touch of class when at his best and has a good second up record, and does have a track/distance win over subsequent Group l winner Lombardo. Open race, worth a throw at the stumps each way.
2 General Beau (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be suited up to 1200m I think. Matty Ellerton trains this guy, who ran two weeks ago in the Monash over 1100m here. He got back off the speed and found the line strongly off the good speed when fourth. Yet to really tick the 1200m box but the way he has found the line his past couple, I think it’s fine and has hard fitness under the belt.
5 Mnementh… (Bet Now: $SP.00) what a beauty he is for Mitch Beer. B Shinn went on three weeks back in the Santa Ana Lane Final and the intent was there from the outset, leading, getting control and giving nothing else a look in, leading throughout for an outstanding win. Harder here, but it’s hard to knock the way he’s racing and how genuine he is.
Race 9. (16:52) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm78) 1400m
1 St Lawrence (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very promising animal for Maher/Eustace and confident he can make it 2/2 this time in. Resumed a few weeks ago over 1400m at Caulfield where he did a bit of early work from the wide gate but it mattered not to him because he was quite dominant late in such an impressive return. Destined for Stakes grade and confident this is a winning stepping stone.
11 Scantoon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is second pick, but a distant second pick. He ran over 1400m at Sandown last time on testing ground when attempting to lead throughout and did give a solid kick but the end of 1400m on wet ground found him out and tired late when fourth to La Zucca. Back on firmer footing, lands near the front, he’ll give a sight.
10 Netanyahu (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one with good upside and is a proven city performer. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since the Swan Hill Carnival when contesting a strong 78 and just looked in need of the run behind Ten Commandments. Might need one more run, but he has a good second up record and outside the favourite, the depth is thin.
