Race 1. (11:34) Mittys (bm80) 2000m
10 Prince Of Arragon (Bet Now:Β $2.45 TOP ODDS) is heading in the right direction for John Thompson. He has won 2/2 this time in, the latest coming over the mile two weeks ago at Gosford. Had the suck run behind the speed before Blake Spriggs angled into clear air and he powered clear late. He was dominant, so confident the rise to 2000m will be no issue.
5 Joymaker (Bet Now:Β $8.00 TOP ODDS) has been up longer than Ron Jeremy it seems but gee she’s racing well. Ran over 2200m at Eagle Farm three weeks ago. Chased strongly from near last in the run and was good in defeat I thought when second to the very much in form Traduce. Just has to hold her form to prove hard to beat.
7 Windermere (Bet Now:Β $10.00 TOP ODDS) should be suited up in trip. She resumed in the I Could Do Better race from two weeks ago at the Gold Coast. She was near the speed throughout and in the run, had her chance. Just lacked the race fitness to put them away so I want to give her a pass for that. Fitter, up in trip, she’s a winning threat.
Race 2. (12:09) Captain Morgan Tropical (c6) 1600m
With confirmation that 12 Goldifox (Bet Now:Β $6.00 TOP ODDS) runs here, I am keen on her chances. Didn’t think she was too bad in the Silk Stocking two weeks back. Just got a mile out of her ground and was nearer the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be. Gets to a more suitable trip and with only 52.5kg on her back, she appeals big time.
6 Guntantes (Bet Now:Β $5.00 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win a race. He looked all over a winner when Fradd presented him three weeks ago at Eagle Farm. Just couldn’t quite finish it off in a thrilling finish behind Slow Hands, sharing second with two other runners. Form out of it has been good and again finds a winnable race.
10 Mocambo (Bet Now:Β $17.00 TOP ODDS) doesn’t have the best of racing patterns, but is capable when things fall into place, as seen when winning three back in his first run for the Lakey camp. Two runs since, despite not winning, have been quite good, the latest behind Slow Hands. Not sure he wins, but for exotics.
Race 3. (12:44) Carter Stakes 1200m
Chris Waller won this race last year with September Run and I think he wins it in 2021 with 6 Hoover Lucy (Bet Now:Β $7.50 TOP ODDS). Both career outings have come at Hawkesbury, the latest being three weeks back in the Clarendon when leading and giving a solid kick from the front. Just couldn’t hold out the finale of Gleneagles. Hard fit now, she’ll make sure she’s the strongest at the end of 1200m here.
2 Rhapsody Rose (Bet Now:Β $9.50 TOP ODDS) is a talented filly for Chris Munce that looks hard to beat in a race like this. Resumed two weeks ago in the Ken Russell when near the speed throughout. Was there to win but I reckon her condition just gave way late when third. She’ll come on from that and this looks an obvious target race.
7 Dovetail Diva (Bet Now:Β $4.60 TOP ODDS) will put herself on speed and give a bold sight. Resumed in the Ken Russell when looking to lead throughout, something which proved impossible to do for the meeting, and I thought she stuck on pretty well to finish fourth. Back to her own age/sex, she’s likeable.
Race 4. (13:19) Darby Mccarthy 1110m
1 Wisdom Of Water (Bet Now:Β $6.50 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. Good in defeat two back in the Arrowfield Sprint. He then went to the Goldmarket when taking on the older horses. Sat near the speed and battled on really well when third to Baller. Back to the short course, hoping it’s jump/run.
5 Rocketing By (Bet Now:Β $3.50 TOP ODDS) should appreciate firmer footing. He ran in the Gold Coast Guineas two weeks back and I just think he struggled on the shifty track the Gold Coast was, plus the race shape was totally against him. Much better suited here in a fast run race and he can easily bounce back.
4 Lord Olympus (Bet Now:Β $7.00 TOP ODDS) is a Mark Newnham trained three year old that won the Mick Dittman two back at this track/distance. He then went to the Gold Coast Guineas and battled on pretty good I thought despite getting every chance when fourth to Marboosha. Back to the scene of the crime two back, he commands respect.
Race 5. (13:58) Pam O'neill Stks 1600m
1 Paradee (Bet Now:Β $3.30) is an absolute beauty for Danny O’Brien. Comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the Australian Cup when a close up fourth to Homesman in a race where the form, overall, has been rubbish, but compared to this race class, she has the A1 form to be winning. Just want a market push.
They keep going to the well with 2 Greysful Glamour (Bet Now:Β $4.80). How much is left? I thought she was brave in the Hawkesbury Cup in chasing Surreal Image and carting the field up to that tearaway. We know her go in life is dry track and control in front. She will get her dry track. It all depends if Williams on Paradee applies enough pressure to pop Greysful Glamour.
11 Seentoomany (Bet Now:Β $26.00) should be suited up to the mile for Michael Costa. Had specking at odds when resuming in the Silk Stocking and she ran right up to that sneaky market support with a solid fourth behind dominant winner Yamazaki. She is a two time second up winner and is better suited at this trip.
Race 6. (14:38) Chief De Beers 1110m
I think 5 Spurcraft (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is worth a speck each way at odds. I was on him when he resumed in the Bat Out Of Hell at the Gold Coast. He was just run off his legs, and combined with a wet track, he didn’t fire. He is much better suited on top of the ground and his track/distance stats are compelling. He’ll sit off a brutal speed and be strong late.
The return to firmer footing is a big, big tick for 6 Sugar Boom (Bet Now:Β $5.50). She has won on wet ground, but no doubt she goes best on top of the ground and that is what she should be getting here. Ran two weeks ago at the Gold Coast. Looked home when J Mac pushed the button. Just no answer late for Usmanov. Fitter, on speed, she’ll take beating.
10 Niedorp (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is one of many at this meeting who will love the sunshine and drying track. She somewhat struggled to pick her feet up at the Gold Coast but was more than sound in defeat I thought behind Usmanov. Like her up in trip and is a Stakes winner at 1200m here, so the 1110m is no issue.
Race 7. (15:18) Doomben Cup 2000m
I am really surprised 1 Sir Dragonet (Bet Now:Β $4.80) isn’t favourite. He is the reigning Cox Plate winner and is flying. Spanked them in the Tancred then I thought Bossy rode a really ordinary race in the Queen Elizabeth in the sense he waited too long to get going and left the horse with no chance. He’ll lob into the gun spot from the draw and he showed in the Tancred he doesn’t need a wet track to be effective. Jury is out on Mugatoo IMO even though I love him and Zaaki was given a 12/10 in a barrier trial/Hollindale. Sir Dragonet should be a clear favourite and $5+ I am more than happy to charge in.
Class will carry 2 Mugatoo (Bet Now:Β $6.50) a long way. He was disappointing I thought in the Doncaster before backing up in the Queen Elizabeth where he beat just one runner home, but was only beaten 1.8L. Tick over trial was a good piece of work…my query is, are they thinking this is his best and perhaps last chance to win a Group l given he didn’t measure up against the elite company in the Queen Elizabeth? Market will be the guide.
4 Avilius (Bet Now:Β $18.00) is Avilius. I couldn’t touch him as a win bet, but he goes in the multiples and in the quaddie because he could easily turn up and win this. He just had too much to do in the Hollindale. Got a mile back in a sit/sprint and was set an impossible task. Did a great job to get as close as he did I feel. He’s a knockout chance.
Race 8. (15:58) Brc Sprint 1350m
Really good race this. 8 Groundswell (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a Team Freedman trained gelding that does his best racing when on speed and rolling. That has seen him be quite effective his past two, the latest being four weeks ago on the Parks track, which is the spot to be on that track, and he was much too good. Just needs to do it against better opposition.
4 Ranier (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a beauty for James Cummings. Resumed a few weeks back in the Hall Mark at Randwick. Could make a little case to say he should have beaten Splintex given he was held up at a vital stage with plenty to offer. Heading towards the Stradbroke…just wanted to see more from the trial but that said, he has never been a star trialler.
11 Stampe (Bet Now:Β $18.00) is in a similar boat to most here. He needs to win to get a confirmed spot in the Stradbroke. Was second up in the Goldmarket and was pretty good late without threatening behind Baller. Both runs back have come at 1200m and I do feel the rise in trip now is perfect.
Race 9. (16:34) The Roses 2000m
See no reason to jump off 3 Grace And Harmony (Bet Now:Β $4.60). Chris Waller trained filly that put together a couple of sharp wins prior to heading north for the Gold Coast Bracelet. J Mac put her into such a good spot, three wide with cover, and 800m out she was the only horse you wanted to be on. Once he pushed the button, it was race over and she was far too good. That looks the key form race and I can’t see anything from that turning the tables.
10 Signora Nera (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a working progress for Chris Waller. The ATC Oaks came around too soon for her and I think the timing is right for her for the Oaks up here. She ran in the Bracelet and loomed to beat Grace And Harmony but that filly was just too brilliant for her late. The Oaks is her target so expecting her to clean the cobwebs out for the big dance.
6 Good Soize (Bet Now:Β $8.00) looks the clear pick of the locals for the Oaks. She has a poor racing pattern but no doubting the engine under the hood is a pretty good one. Just got too far back in the Bracelet but worked home with real purpose late to run fourth to Grace And Harmony. Dangerous if she can sit closer in the run.
