A bumper nine race card has been assembled for Rosehill this Saturday, headlined by the Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and Silver Slipper (1100m). The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Hobartville Stakes 🏆: View the Field for the Hobartville Stakes
Race 1. (12:55) ABLE DOORS SPARK OF LIFE HCP 1100m
3 Deference (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) on top. James Cummings trains this gelding, who resumed over 1000m at Warwick Farm where he was back in a real on pace dominated affair but didn’t mind the way this guy stuck it out despite never being a winning threat. He should get the good drag up behind Acumen and be strong at the end.
All you can do is win and that is what 6 Willowheart (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) has done in her career to date, winning 2/2. Ran fast time in winning on debut on the Kenso track before being spelled. Resumed at Canterbury where it was an advantage to be on speed, but she did work to get there and showed good ticker when challenged to score. Can’t knock a winner.
Keen to see 8 Screenager (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) resume for James Cummings. First two runs to start her career resulted in strong wins, the second of which came in a decent race on Bendigo Cup Day. Then raced down the Flemington straight when far from disgraced behind Halvorsen, who is being talked up as a potential Group l horse. Thought the recent trial was very good. Just want a market push.
Race 2. (13:30) TAB HIGHWAY HCP 1400m
I think 5 Two Big Fari (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) is a decent gamble in the Highway. Two runs back from a spell have been excellent. Huge maiden win first up at Tamworth after sitting four wide throughout. Then went to what looked a strong benchmark race at Newcastle and was very good when second to On The White Turf, safely held by that Stakes performed mare, but he did safely hold the rest. That’s good enough to win here.
6 Alot To Hoffa (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) is a Ben Blay trained gelding who is putting together a decent record. He comes through a Highway from three weeks ago at Randwick when slightly held up early on in the straight before getting clear and finishing off strongly behind Greenspan. Tricky draw, but down in the weights and will be strong at the end.
10 Boom Gate (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) is working up to a win I feel. Last couple of runs have come at 1600m, two back being just under three lengths away from The Promise at Randwick. Then raced on his home track when a mile out of his ground but finished his race off with purpose. If he can sit that little bit closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 3. (14:05) SILVER SLIPPER STAKES 1100m
If 6 Cellsabeel (Bet Now: $1.60 TOP ODDS) runs up to what she produced at this track/distance last time out, she just wins. Simple as that. That win was something else and the “Pro’s” loved the win as well, rating her as one of the best two year olds this season hence why she is at the top of betting for this and the Golden Slipper. Looks the winner barring bad luck.
I’m very wary of 3 Blaze A Trail (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS), who resumes for Team Snowden. This colt hasn’t raced since debuting at this track/distance in the Golden Gift when leading and giving a really good kick when third to Dame Giselle. The overall form from that race is a tad suspect, but on the clock, it’s currently one of the best 2YO races this season. Two trials have been great and will give this a big shake.
5 Every Rose (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is a Mark Newnham trained filly who has been kept on ice since the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast where her race was over as soon as the gates opened and really, she did a good job to finish as close as she did. Trial win last week was good, she can sit near the speed and at the Rosehill 1100m, that’s an ideal racing pattern.
Race 4. (14:40) MILLIE FOX STAKES 1300m
2 Savatiano (Bet Now: $2.20 TOP ODDS) for me. She’s a ripping mare for James Cummings who resumes, having not raced since scoring a fabulous and dominant on speed win in the inaugural edition of The Hunter at Newcastle. She’s a proven performer at this level and loved the way she moved last week in a trial alongside Deprive. Think she’s ready to rock and roll.
1 White Moss (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) does look one of the safer options here. Jason Coyle trains this mare, who had been trialling super prior to resuming in the Expressway three weeks ago where she ran a beauty when third to a potential Group l horse in Standout and a star mare in Alizee, so you’d like to think that form holds up for a race like this. Flies second up, wet track no issue, hard to beat.
6 Delectation Girl (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) is a huge watch here. Quality mare that resumes for Kris Lees, who hasn’t raced since Oaks Day at Hawkesbury when contesting the Ladies Day Cup when midfield behind Cellarman. Didn’t have the best of luck first up last prep, but trialled well leading in and loves a track with give in it.
Race 5. (15:15) BLUE DATTO FOUNDATION HCP 1100m
Jarrod Austin has done a fabulous job with 5 Inanup (Bet Now: $8.50) and he’s proved at his past few that he’s a Saturday class horse for sure and not just a Kembla specialist. Ran over 1200m at Randwick three weeks ago and loomed large to beat Roheryn but the class of that horse probably was the difference in the end. Handles wet ground, hard fit, in form and back to 1100m should be okay.
6 Black Magnum (Bet Now: $2.80) does look hard to beat but he’s getting to silly short now. Comes to Saturday grade off a strong midweek win on the Kenso track first up, clocking really good late sectionals in winning. Tumbles to 52kg after the claim and has won on wet ground. That first up win was midweek and this is a decent Saturday race.
8 River Bird (Bet Now: $7.00) can be a big improver back on a track with give in it. Produced really good late splits first up on a Rosehill bog behind Embracer before racing at Randwick tweeks ago where she was a tad keen in the run, but still, was a disappointing finale. Down in the weights on a wet track, she can bounce back.
Race 6. (15:50) PARRAMATTA CUP 1900m
1 Mustajeer (Bet Now: $5.00) is just better than these isn’t he? Speaking to Jamie Lovett earlier this week, he did give a push for this guy despite no trials leading in, but has produced good pieces of work in readiness for the Autumn. Thought he was good in the Caulfield Cup then just forget his Melbourne Cup run. Class gets him home I think.
8 Etana (Bet Now: $4.20) is a quality mare for the Maher/Eustace stable that is back at the races after a fruitful prep in Queensland, which saw her take out an 1800m race on Magic Millions Day. Hasn’t raced since, but looked to very well last Saturday between races alongside Cellsabeel. She’ll take some beating here I’m sure.
7 Le Juge (Bet Now: $19.00) didn’t really measure up in Sydney during the Spring so he’s done his recent racing in Brisbane and while he hasn’t won, he’s been competitive with the big weights, the latest coming three weeks ago at Eagle Farm when a narrow second to Cool Chap. Gets good weight relief, hard fit and a soft gate.
Race 7. (16:30) HOBARTVILLE STAKES 1400m
2 Microphone (Bet Now: $2.60) looks the best on the program. There were some who were quick to pen him after the trial and jumpout, then the first up run, but he got out in trip in the Autumn Stakes at Caulfield and what impressed me is the way he knuckled down to win where he could have easily just whacked away for a place. He’s back on track for sure, loves a track with give in it and the big tick he has is race fitness.
1 Castelvecchio (Bet Now: $4.80) a clear threat. Now with Yes Yes Yes retired, you’d have to say, when it comes to 3YO’s against older horses, Castelvecchio is #1 seed with his mighty second to Lys Gracieux in the Cox Plate. We saw what that mare did in her swan song, so that form is world class. Thought the trial without the blinkers was good and from all reports, he’s working super in readiness for his return. He’ll be charging late and class may well get him home.
4 Shadow Hero (Bet Now: $7.50) is a high quality animal for Mark Newnham that resumes. This three year old really stood up as a top prospect during the Spring, highlighted by his win in the Spring Champion. Two trials leading in have been decent and keep in mind has had no blinkers each time. 1400m is short of his best, but he’ll be charging late.
Race 8. (17:10) ADVANCED READYMIX HCP 1400m
If you can trust 2 Cradle Mountain (Bet Now: $3.00) and what he did in the Carrington, he’s clearly the horse to beat here. He bounced back to his best in winning the 1400m feature at Randwick, leading throughout at a good clip and running his rivals into submission. His wet track stats are very good, looks the leader and should take a power of beating.
3 Wren’s Day (Bet Now: $7.50) is a James Cummings trained gelding that resumes. This guy had a two run Spring prep to start his Australian career. Had excuses first up behind Girl Tuesday before going to the Cameron at Newcastle and working home well late behind Rock. Warwick Farm trial was good and generally with these imports, they improve into their second prep.
13 Ligulate (Bet Now: $15.00) is using this I dare say as a pipe opener for the Country Championship Qualifier for Cody Morgan. Resumed on his home track at Tamworth and made up really good ground late in the piece behind Desert Marshal. Tumbles down to 50.5kg after the claim and thought his tick over trial was more than encouraging.
Race 9. (17:50) SHARP EXTENSIVE IT HCP 1400m
13 Subpoenaed (Bet Now: $3.50) can keep going through her grades and win again here. Backed as if unbeatable when resuming three weeks ago over 1400m at Randwick and despite a few nervous moments, she was always in control and far too good. Does she want further now? Potentially, but she’s got class/brilliance to take care of these again.
4 Agassi (Bet Now: $6.50) has been really good in two runs back from a break. Resumed with a close second at Canterbury to Maddi Rocks before going to Warwick Farm last Wednesday when lumping 61.5kg, doing work on speed yet fought on strongly, only going down narrowly to High Low Bet. Third up, hard fit now and gets some weight relief.
3 Laure Me In… (Bet Now: $16.00) he’s an old mate of mine back to his McEvoy days, but I reckon David Pfieffer has him flying. Really good resumption behind Leviathan before being saved for a race over 1400m at Randwick a few weeks ago and he battled away well behind surprise winner I Am Vinnie. Doesn’t mind getting his toe in and third up, should be hard fit.
