The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide metro racing takes place on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:46) Adelaide Galvanising (rs2ly) 1250m
Happy to be with 3 Zalmona (Bet Now: $5.50) for Peter Blanch. This guy hasn’t raced for six weeks since being far from disgraced down the Flemington straight behind Blazejowski. Kept up to fitness with a good trial here last week and with the claim for Neindorf, he gets in really well and with gate one, should get a good run off a potentially decent speed.
7 Beauty (Bet Now: $3.00) returns to SA after trying to chase some Mares blacktype at Hobart but unfortunately for her supporters she was caught wide no cover for the trip. Despite that hard run, thought she stuck on really well in defeat when fifth to Zargos. Back home and with Stubby on from a good draw, she’s likeable.
You’d have to think there would be concerns about the racing future of 1 Runson (Bet Now: $6.50) if he can’t run a positive race here. Broke the track record at Moonee Valley just under 18 months ago and since then, he’s pretty much done bugger all. In saying that, last start in the Rubiton he was far from disgraced in a race where they gave the 1100m Caulfield track record a nudge. Best chance of winning is letting him jump and run from the outset.
Race 2. (13:21) Furphy Mdn Plate 1000m
You’d think only bad luck beats the Gordon Richards trained 12 Sheza Little Posh (Bet Now: $4.20), who resumed in a 3YO benchmark race at this track/distance two weeks ago when wide with cover before peeling wider and letting down strongly, only getting bloused late by Wotuwant. Back to maiden grade, with the run under the belt, looks the winner and good thing on the program.
7 Ashady Past (Bet Now: $9.00) is an interesting runner. Debuts for the Jolly camp off the back of a strong trial win here last week when winning quite well in decent enough time relative to the session and seemingly had something in reserve. On breeding, may want a touch further than this, but has had a decent enough grounding.
1 Bludog (Bet Now: $35.00) is a definite improver here I feel. Was keen on him when he debuted on the course proper here three weeks ago but didn’t really liked the wet ground it seemed, with the wheels spinning when Tourneur asked for the big effort. Trailled well last week and back on firmer footing this time around, he’s a definite improver.
Race 3. (13:56) Schweppes Hcp (58) 1000m
Not sure what to make of the first up win of 4 Miracleofmiracles (Bet Now: $3.80). Was 68 weeks between runs when resuming over 1000m at Murray Bridge and despite that decent break
1200m back to 1000m isn’t the best of set ups for 5 Canidae (Bet Now: $3.30) but his win last Wednesday at Gawler was pretty impressive. Sat on speed throughout and when clicked up by Fawke, he showed really good change up speed and was much too good. He’ll be strong at the end you’d think. Just depends if he can hold up from gate one.
Think back to 1000m is a big tick for 8 Miami Freedom (Bet Now: $10.00). This mare gave them a spanking first up over 1050m at Oakbank before stepping up to 1100m at Gawler when near the speed and failing to go on with it in the straight behind impressive winner Fabulous Flipper. Back to 1000m I like for this mare and she finds a field with not a great deal of depth.
Race 4. (14:31) Happy 40th Lynda (bm78) 2400m
5 Franked (Bet Now: $3.80) is back on track I feel. Needed the first two runs for the prep before racing over 2000m on the course proper here last Saturday and ran a much improved race when third to the very impressive winner Dark Alley. He’s done the seven day back up successfully in the past and the other big tick is that he steps up to 2400m.
2 Flow Meter (Bet Now: $8.50) is an absolute beauty for John Hickmott and is in really good form at the moment. Surged hard late to get up and win the Strathalbyn Cup two back before going to the Naracoorte Cup when a close up third to Bronski, finishing strongly but just missing. Bigger track and 2400m are two big ticks and is a knockout chance.
3 Azurite (Bet Now: $17.00) is potentially on the Adelaide Cup path and the signs are there that he’s ticking along nicely towards it. Ran last Saturday on the course proper here and worked home okay from near last to run fourth to Dark Alley. Generally, he’s a good back up horse and is another that will appreciate the rise to 2400m.
Race 5. (15:06) Happy Birthday Tony (bm72) 1000m
3 White Kaps (Bet Now: $3.60) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates but I reckon he’s going well enough for Gordon Richards to win this. Was really well tried at this track/distance two weeks ago but got stuck wide no cover on speed. Looked as if he’d drop off but he came again and wasn’t too bad in defeat I thought when third. Better luck here, he’ll take some beating.
1 Mum’s My Hero (Bet Now: $5.00) is building up a tidy record for Craig Curtis. He is three weeks between runs since landing decent bets with a strong on speed win over this trip on the course proper. Not sure he’ll get the A1 set up he got to last start, but he’s building a decent record and doesn’t mind digging in when required.
4 Tiara Star (Bet Now: $8.00) is nearing her last chance. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago off a freshen up since Boxing Day and while she was held up for a couple of strides, for the most part, she was most disappointing behind Exalted Lauretta. Pannell is back, sits back off a fast speed…she gets her chance to find positive form.
Race 6. (15:41) Metal-link (bm68) 1400m
3 Perfect Route (Bet Now: $2.90) has ratings points in hand still to win another of these races and he should indeed be winning again. Gave them an absolute caning to break the maiden tag at Murray Bridge two back before repeating the dose over this track/distance two weeks ago in impressive fashion. You’d think only bad luck beats him provided he holds his form.
2 Iscariot (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Will Clarken trained three year old who is racing in pretty good form at the moment. Just didn’t have the turn of foot to go with Ethical Solution two back at Murray Bridge before racing here where he was near the speed, showed good fight, but had to settle for second again, this time at the hands of Perfect Route. Runs well again I’m sure.
5 Regal Crown (Bet Now: $15.00) is a son of Ambidexter for John Hickmott who looks to be heading in the right direction as a horse. Was a real eye catcher on debut over 1100m at Oakbank when second before going to Murray Bridge where he looked a good thing on paper and that was indeed the case. He’ll eat up 1400m and is a knockout chance.
Race 7. (16:21) Tab (bm68) 1250m
Dean Saxon has done a really good job with 10 Ancient History (Bet Now: $8.50) this time in. He has won three of his past five, including his last two. Loved the way he knuckled down to win over 1200m at Murray Bridge last time and although the margin was narrow, the win was still good. Decent step up here in depth, but hard to knock the way he’s going.
3 Exalted Trail (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Grant Young trained gelding that found some positive form two weeks ago at this track/distance, finishing off strongly from off the pace to run a close up third to Lucky Fish in a blanket finish. The few runs prior were disappointing but if he repeats what he produced last time, he’ll take some beating here.
2 Call Me Curtis… (Bet Now: $10.00) bless him. He tries hard for Craig Curtis and gives his all every time he steps out. Just can’t crack it for a win this prep. String of placings continued at Gawler a few weeks ago when hunting forward to lead and just feeling the pinch late when third to Danger Deal. Good record on the Parks track, lands on speed and will run his usual honest race.
Race 8. (17:01) Tab Adelaide Cup Day 9/3 1400m
7 Sky Punch (Bet Now: $4.00) on top. Michael Hickmott trains this gelding and I thought his first up win at Murray Bridge was huge. Lumped 61.5kg, pressured in front and keep in mind he was first up, so he was entitled to drop away, but he kept fighting and clung on to win. Could make a case he should be unbeaten second up, so with that in mind, think he’s really hard to beat here.
4 Moghul Empire (Bet Now: $6.50) is a son of Wanted for Will Clarken that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since March 23 last year when a close up third to Flop, who was flying at the time. Been given a really good break and haven’t minded the way he looked in a recent jumpout. Best to just watch the market and see if it likes him first up off a long break.
5 Roselli Sting (Bet Now: $8.50) is getting some good consistency to his racing this time in. Won well two back at Murray Bridge in what has turned out to be a strong form reference. Then raced over the 1550m here two weeks ago and loomed to win, but I feel he just didn’t see the distance out when second to Jester Halo. Back to 1400m I like, hard fit and in form.
Race 9. (17:41) Aami (bm64) 1400m
8 First Kiss (Bet Now: $14.00) is teasing to win one for Phillip Stokes but how deep are your pockets because she’s running out of chances. Comes through the Icon race from a few weeks ago on the course proper here where she got back and was never really a winning threat but did make up ground and wasn’t too bad in defeat. Firmer footing, she can bounce back.
2 Ambidazzle (Bet Now: $2.70) is racing in such good form at the moment for Phillip Stokes. This mare has won two of her past three, the latest of those wins coming at this track/distance two weeks ago when given a lovely ride by Stubby from a tricky gate, getting good cover before peeling wide and finishing off strongly to score. Bit harder here, but she’s earned a crack at this level.
Fitter, want to give 3 Pale Ale (Bet Now: $21.00) another chance. Was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1250m here a fortnight ago when doing a bit too much work in the run from the wide gate and couldn’t go on with it in the straight behind Lucky Fish. Not a known winner, but could easily bob up and fill a first four spot without surprising.
