22/12/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Cranbourne

Night racing continues at Cranbourne this Friday where eight races have been set down. Weather is fine, track is soft (5) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

4 Presides (Bet Now:  $SP.00) might be a squib but a squib is suited at the Cranbourne 1000m. Son of Lonhro for James Cummings that is on debut off the back of an electric jumpout win at Flemington where he produced sustained speed from the front, winning comfortably in solid time. Looks the likely leader and this track can play up/in under the lights.

9 Sakowin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) hasn’t done much wrong in a two start career, placing each time. This filly ran over 1100m at Bendigo last time where she was near the speed throughout and was there to win but couldn’t quite put them away, eventually finishing third. Back to 1000m I like and with hard fitness/experience under the belt, it should hold her in good stead.

8 I’m Mim (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Doug Harrison trained filly that resumes. She had a three run prep in the Autumn to start her career where she was okay without setting the world on fire but that said, she did contest strong races. Jumpout work has been encouraging and the depth here isn’t deep, as a whole, so I’d watch the market.

2 Boot Of Cortez (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems a big price here IMO. This gelding resumed in a strong 1200m maiden at Warrnambool when wide no cover throughout and he was entitled to knock right up but he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat when second to War Drama. Better for the run, more economical run in transit here, in well after the claim…he’ll do me each way.

6 Midnight Devil (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will likely get the staggers at the end of 1200m but with his racing pattern, he’ll give himself every chance. He attempted to lead throughout over this trip at Moe last time and gave a tremendous kick from the front but couldn’t quite see it through when nabbed late by Dummy Spit. He’ll look the winner for a long way. Last 50m will test.

3 Docinthe (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Mitch Freedman trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 3 when placing on the Synthetic at Pakenham over 1400m. He has had a good break to get ready for his return and with three jumpouts under the belt, the grounding is there, so watch the market.

7 The Mansman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be winning. Phillip Stokes trained colt that resumed at Geelong when near the speed and loomed to win in the straight but being first up, condition gave way late in the piece behind Elouyou, finishing second. Fitter, up to 1400m, back a fair bit in depth here IMO, he is quite clearly the one to beat.

6 Night People (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the key and I dare say only threat, if there is one. He was 1100m to 1400m when racing at Warrnambool last time and seemingly had every chance but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Bello Bello. Home track advantage and should be better off given he has the 1400m run under the belt.

8 Zemgrinda (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver back to this level. He was thrown in the deep end in the Gold Stockade on Ballarat Cup Day and just couldn’t pick his feet up on the bog behind impressive winner Sunset Dreaming. Back to maiden grade, he can run a much improved race provided there is petrol left in the tank.

Looks a race in two but leaning towards 7 Justaboom (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He was well specked at odds when debuting over 1400m at Sandown where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never really a winning threat, his finale was very good, closing off with purpose to run third to Krementz. Home track advantage, fitter, up to 1600m…all points to her I’d suggest.

4 Red Mile (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran fourth in the race mentioned above and I was disappointed with him. I was quite keen on his chances there and yes, he was a tad keen in the run, but he had every chance and just whacked to the line. I think with better racing manners, relaxing in the run, he ran super on debut to say he can win this.

6 Amahle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate getting to 1600m. She ran over 1500m at Bendigo last time out where she was flat footed when initially asked for the effort but she kept finding and surging, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Hollandia. He’ll love the extra 100m and with home track advantage, she’s a knockout hope.

6 Omeo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) brings the different form and has good upside/progression vs most. Mick Kent trains this gelding, who resumed over 2400m at Mornington where he was tardy away and spotted those in front a tidy start but he was pretty good late without threatening behind Dictionary. He gets Blinkers first time, he’s in the right camp and will be strong at the end.

5 Speranzoso (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Clayton Douglas. His last couple of runs have come at Sandown, the latest over 2400m when attempting to lead throughout and giving a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off, run down late by Glentaneous. Should find the front comfortably and if he gets control, he’ll take running down.

2 Fine Weather (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a track/distance winner so rising to this trip should suit. He was 2460m back to 1900m when racing on Traralgon Cup Day and was solid without threatening behind Flying Basil, finishing third. Like him up in distance…not sure he has the quality/upside of the first two to win, but for exotics, he’s a must.

3 Tahlequah (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat for Price/Kent. This mare was a notable drifter in betting when resuming at Geelong and the market knew. She had every chance from just behind the speed and didn’t finish the race off at all behind Montjeuify. She is a second up winner and you’d like to think she will improve significantly from the resumption. The one to beat.

4 Cyclone Harmony (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door. Peter Gelagotis trained gelding that ran second in the race mentioned from Geelong where he drifted back and found the line strongly, just missing out on the win when beaten a half length. Hard fit and up to 1600m, ideal map, he rates highly for a stable that is in form.

1 Solbrook Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Team Hayes trained gelding that ran last in the Montjeuify race at Geelong. He sat outside the speed throughout and tried hard but wasn’t able to finish the race off at all, finishing last in the field of seven. Hard fit now and if he gets a more economical run on speed, his best is good enough.

2 El Soleado (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be winning. Robbie Laing trained gelding that has placed in both runs this time in, catching the eye first up at The Valley behind Veloce Carro before going to Sandown when near the speed and seemingly having every chance behind Toronto Terrier. He’s third up, hard fit, home track and with the 4kg claim, gee he looks so well in.

6 Slane (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Highland Reel for Enver Jusufovic that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since July 29 when placing over 2040m at The Valley when on speed and fought on gamely in defeat when second to Magnaspin. He has home track advantage and has jumped out well enough my eye to suggest he can run well first up, so watch the market.

10 She’s Notorious (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Clinton McDonald, having not raced since November 22 at Sandown when down the track in a plain effort behind Frenchmans Bay. She is 2/2 at Cranbourne and does tend to race best on the fresh side. Not sure she wins, but a first four contender.

2 Rock Artist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek. Team Keys trained gelding that ran at the midweeks at Sandown when attempting to lead throughout and giving good cheek but couldn’t quite see it through when a close up fifth to Villa Seventynine. If he finds the front and gets some level of control, he’ll take running down at a likely decent price.

4 Shambo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been hit and miss throughout his career but when he is on, he is a pretty talented animal. Market wanted him with confidence when resuming on the home deck at Mornington and despite a few anxious moments, class came to the fore late and he knuckled down to win. Ideal map and with improvement to come, rates highly.

9 Miss Russia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is two weeks between runs for Moody/Coleman since racing over 1200m at The Valley when near the speed throughout and had every chance, failing to finish the race off behind Simply Sparklez. Drops a bit in overall depth here, maps ideally and her best is clearly good enough.
