22/1/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Carrington Stakes day

Ten races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday for Carrington Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

1100m is on the short side for 6 Moridian (Bet Now: $12.00) but I think he has a bit of quality and can resume a winner for Anthony Cummings. He brings A1 form from the Spring, including a Golden Rose run behind In The Congo, Anamoe and co. Absolutely trucked on speed when bolting up in a trial here last week. I say he comes here ready to rock and roll.

5 Flying Crazy (Bet Now: $7.00) is a son of Flying Artie for the Ryan/Alexiou camp that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Run To The Rose when far from disgraced behind superstar Anamoe, and in terms of 3YO form, that is A1. Just one soft trial to get ready, but he has a bit of quality and stable is in form.

3 Subterranean (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Rebel Dane for Matty Dunn that is first up and I think can be quite dangerous here. It was an indifferent Spring for him. Initially it was about the Golden Rose, then when he raced a bit one paced, they went towards the Spring Champion but was found wanting in the Gloaming. Two trials to get ready suggest he’s ready to rock and roll fresh.

Team Snowden are producing some good types at the trials and one of them appears to be 6 Sir Artie (Bet Now: $4.40), on debut. He led throughout to win a recent Gosford trial and I thought he moved sweetly in front under Latham, drawing clear late under minimal pressure. Maps to get a good run in transit and in a tricky race, I’m leaning his way.

The gate scares me with 2 Emperor (Bet Now: $6.50) but he looks a smart colt for Matty Dunn that resumes. He debuted in the Breeders Plate in October when on speed and fighting on strongly when third to Sejarden. His two trials leading in have been strong. Hard to beat with luck from the gate.

15 Fire And Ice (Bet Now: $20.00) is a son of Hellbent on debut and he has looked solid at the trials for Mick Minervini. Whether he’s good enough to beat these, I doubt it, but maps okay from the draw and has shown speed in the trials to suggest he will be in a forward spot.

Having a bit of a throw at the stumps in the shape of 8 Markwell Dreamer (Bet Now: $21.00), who resumes for Joseph Burges. Hasn’t raced since October 10 when a strong winner at Grafton in what has turned out to be a pretty solid form reference. Given a quiet trial at Taree to get ready and noteworthy that he has headgear on for his return, because he is a horse who can wander about under pressure.

2 Great Buy (Bet Now: $19.00) is a talented animal for Brett Robb that resumes and is one of many here who I think have eyes on the Country Championships. He hasn’t raced since April when far from disgraced at Dubbo, which followed a good effort in a Country Championships Qualifier won by Activation. Liked his recent Gilgandra trial win and both career wins have come at 1100m.

You’ll know your fate with 4 Danzadel (Bet Now: $7.00) in the mounting yard. She ran her there fresh before stepping onto the track at Rosehill and finishing down the track behind Zoo Station, so want to be forgiving of that effort. If she parades much better, her form is certainly good enough.

Fitter and up in trip, I like 7 And We Danced (Bet Now: $3.40). Former Kiwi filly that made her Australian debut for Chris Waller at Rosehill two weeks ago. Looked home when Jay Ford pressed the button but fresh at 1500m, her condition just gave out and she was nabbed late by Arctic Thunder. Much better set up this time around, so happy to be in her corner.

6 Sur La Mer (Bet Now: $4.20) has let punters down on a number of occasions this time in but I think she is racing well despite that. She was smashed in betting at Warwick Farm last time and if you were on, apologies for bringing it up. Although, I will say that there was a period of time where she was struggling but clearly should have finished closer. Think up to the mile on the bigger track is ideal and she can bounce back.

2 Fleetwood Maca (Bet Now: $18.00) rises a fair bit in grade/depth but she has something about her that is likeable. Found them a bit sharp fresh behind Brookspire before going to Canberra where it was a pretty thin Class One, but she savaged the line like a horse that can come back to town and measure up so keen to see how she goes.

7 White Boots (Bet Now: $4.80) for me. Kim Waugh trained gelding who ran last Wednesday at Warwick Farm. Not sure the stop/start nature of the race and the tight track suited, but liked the way he picked up late when fourth to Travest in a good effort. Fitter and up in trip, upside to come from a good draw, down in the weights, he’s the one for me.

2 Jungle Book (Bet Now: $4.60) should love the rise to 1800m for Clare Cunningham. Was on his back when he ran at Warwick Farm last Wednesday where he was given a peach by Collett and looked home, but had to settle for a second to Travest. He was a few weeks between runs and stayed at the mile so fitter, up in trip, he appeals.

4 Canyonero (Bet Now: $8.00) is unknown at 1800m but I think he’ll be okay. He ran over 1550m under the lights at Canterbury last time out and didn’t get the best of luck in the straight where I thought he had something to offer. He can bob up from time to time, so include in wider exotics.

3 Desert Icon (Bet Now: $6.50) looks the good thing on the program to my eye. Progressive import for Chris Waller who has been strong in two Australian runs, both at Flemington. First up was far from disgraced behind Lighthouse before a close up third behind Designer Chef. He’s ready for 2000m and has more upside than most. Keen.

4 Toomuchtobear (Bet Now: $1.90) can bounce back for Chris Waller. Just went too keen in the run three weeks ago on the Kenso track and I just think that took away something from his finale when second to For Valour. Hoping for a more genuine tempo here so he can relax in the run and be more effective at the end.

7 Southern Lights (Bet Now: $31.00) should be suited up in trip. He’s had two Australian runs for Annabel Neasham. Wasn’t too bad at the Australian debut behind Holyfield before going to Rosehill where he was okay late behind O’Mudgee. Reckon 2000m+ is when he’ll come into his own so I think he’s one for multiples.

7 Salina Dreaming (Bet Now: $3.40) is a talented mare for Angela Davies that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since May 15 at Rosehill when okay in defeat behind the then in form Dream Circle. She’s a bomb when produced fresh and does bring a touch of class about her when right.

10 Osamu (Bet Now: $6.00) is going well I feel. Good in his return at Warwick Farm before going to the Midway from a few weeks ago when four wide the trip and stuck on bravely given he was entitled to run last. If he gets better luck this time around, I think he’s going well enough to be dangerous.

If the rain does miss Randwick and the track is on the firm side, then 5 Broken Arrows (Bet Now: $9.50) comes right into play. He resumed on a somewhat shifty track at Warwick Farm, something he normally hates, but he was absolutely trucking and it was just a matter of pushing the button by Jones and once he did, the horse won well. He’s right in the mix on a dry track.

14 Petronius (Bet Now: $31.00) is hit and miss but his best is certainly good enough to be competitive here, which was the case three weeks back where he wasn’t just competitive, he was able to win, nailing the in form Queen Bellissimo on the peg. If he can bring that here, he’ll go close again.

9 True Detective (Bet Now: $11.00) is in with a shout here. Resumed two weeks ago at Rosehill. Loved the way he toughed it out to win fresh, fending off a strong challenge from Tycoonist, who ran a super race at the Gold Coast on the weekend, so the form has been ticked off, and fitter, up to 1400m, he appeals.

2 Purple Sector (Bet Now: $5.00) looks back on track for John Thompson and I do think up to 2000m is a big, big tick for him. Ranthree weeks ago on the Kenso track where he tried hard from on speed but was no match late for the very much in form Kirwan’s Lane. Just back in trip is the only real knock.

Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 9 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $5.50). Resumed two weeks ago over 1400m at Rosehill where he seemed to get a good run in transit but the race shape of a sit/sprint wasn’t to his liking and just couldn’t dash well enough behind Kingsheir. Is a track/distance winner and with upside to come, is hard to beat.

2 Criminal Code (Bet Now: $23.00) can be a big improver here. Market wanted him at odds when resuming over the mile a few weeks back, which I found odd given 1600m is not his trip and paraded like he would need the run, which is how it panned out when failing to beat one home behind Kirwan’s Lane. Has class and I thought his recent tick over trial was a sharp piece of work.

6 Opacity (Bet Now: $13.00) can be a big improver here I feel. Trialled up really well prior to resuming at Rosehill where he got back to near last in the run and it was a race where those on speed were advantaged, so be forgiving of that effort. Saves his best for Randwick, so an improved showing is on the cards.

10 Waihaha Falls (Bet Now: $4.40) deserves another chance. He let punters down on Boxing Day here but I want to be forgiving of the run given he was wide no cover for the trip and tired late. He has been given a mini let up and thought he trialled up well in a tick over piece of work last week. Off his win two back, he’s in the mix for sure.

4 Papal Warrior (Bet Now: $9.50) should be suited here for Chris Waller. Attempted to lead throughout over this trip in an 88 two weeks ago at Rosehill where he looked to travel sweetly in front and found okay under pressure when third to Kingsheir. Back to 78 grade with a more conservative steer, he’ll take beating.

7 Badoosh (Bet Now: $10.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Matty Dunn trained gelding that resumed over 1300m on the Kenso a few weeks back and was quite good I thought from off the speed behind Petronius in a race dominated by those on speed. Might want one more, but I thought the resumption was quite encouraging.

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 14 Petronius
