A solid eleven event meeting has been set down for Ascot this Monday, postponed from Saturday due to the heat. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. Reliable Asset Maintenance Handicap (0MW) 1600m
5 Dalhouse (Bet Now: $4.20) does look to pick himself here. This filly looks to be a type that could head towards an Oaks if she keeps progressing. Loved the way she knuckled down to win over 1300m at Belmont. She got there quickly but didn’t know how to put them away until very late. Like her up to the mile and finds a thin race.
1 Bandalera Beau (Bet Now: $3.70) gets in well after the claim and comes here as a first up winner, his win coming over 1400m at Belmont when smashed in betting and under a lovely ride from Banovic-Edwards, he was too good. 1600m is the query, but has the runs on the board.
8 Rare Case (Bet Now: $27.00) screams out of a filly that wants 2000m+ and a maiden. Ran over 1400m at Belmont last start where she was very one paced when Pike asked her to go but her finale was okay. I think she’s one for wider multiples here. Doubt she wins.
Race 2. Heineken 3 Maiden 1400m
3 Rommel’s Jeuney (Bet Now: $3.10) for me. Neville Parnham trained gelding that resumed over 1300m at Belmont where he attempted to lead throughout. He gave a solid kick from the front and looked the winner, but just found one better in Dalhouse, who I think wins the first, will tick the form off, and he takes this out.
7 Al Tina (Bet Now: $9.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but I think she’s racing well for Michael Lane. Has finished runner up in both runs this time in, both coming at Pinjarra, the latest being over 1200m where she was narrowly beaten by Miss Field. Luck from the draw, she’ll be around the mark.
4 Bigdayonit (Bet Now: $35.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Comes back to the 1400m after racing over the mile at Pinjarra last time where he was kept quite safe in betting and just didn’t quite run the trip out. Back in trip, he’ll get the suck run and be a first four threat.
Race 3. Crown Perth Plate 1100m
I think the class of 1 Spin The Knife (Bet Now: $1.70) gets him home here fresh. Talented animal for Luke Fernie that resumes, having not raced since the early part of the Carnival in October when a narrow second to Liwa, nabbed in the last stride. Resumes without a trial, but a proven performer at a better level than this and has the class edge.
6 Via Monte (Bet Now: $4.80) looks the one on the up for Dan Morton. Not sure he beat a great deal fresh at Belmont but the change up speed he produced when clear was impressive and put a gap on them in a short space of time. Looks like they are training him to be a sprinter and albeit a short sample size, it’s looking to be the right move.
3 Cold Shizzle (Bet Now: $9.50) is on the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday. He had a suck run behind the speed but as soon as pressure was applied, he didn’t find much and was quite plain. Blinkers go on to sharpen him up and back in trip I find interesting. Watch the market.
Race 4. Magic Millions Plate 1100m
3 Sheeza Belter (Bet Now: $3.90) on top. Three weeks between runs for Luke Fernie since an electric debut win here. Sat off the speed and was spotting those in front a start but once she was clicked up, she produced good change up speed and put the race to bed rather quickly. This race looks no harder, so she’s the one to beat.
13 No Peer (Bet Now: $9.00) is a daughter of Nicconi that is on debut. She’s had two trials to get ready for start one. Didn’t do much in her first trial but showed a great deal of improvement next time out with a spank job over 930m at Lark Hill. Draws soft, I think she’ll run a positive race.
10 Ciao Luna (Bet Now: $23.00) gets the Blinkers on first time and that could spark improvement from her. Ran two weeks ago in an okay rating two year old race when wide no cover on speed and tiring late. Draws better this time around…not sure she wins, but can fill a first four spot.s won up to 2100m so 2200m here should be fine and has upside to come.
Race 5. Tabtouch Handicap (0MW) 1600m
8 Gold Merits (Bet Now: $SP.00) is yet to prove herself at the mile but off last start, I think she’ll be fine. She ran over 1400m here two weeks ago when back near last in the run and working home strongly, producing good late splits, when a close up fourth. If she can get a decent spot from the tricky gate, she’ll take beating.
3 Snippy Miss (Bet Now: $3.50) is similar to Gold Merits in that she’s not ticked the mile box. She’s just so genuine though. Been up forever it seems but continues to race at a pretty good level, that good level seeing her win over 1400m here last time. With a soft trip, I think the trip will be fine.
2 Speedy Miss (Bet Now: $12.00) is third up from a break here and has more upside than most. Was 1100m to 1400m last start and worked to the line okay without threatening in a tidy effort. Should be able to get into a lovely spot from the draw and her best is certainly good enough.
Race 6. Belhus Racing Stables Handicap (66+) 2200m
1 Come Right Back (Bet Now: $2.90) just has to hold his form and he wins again. Far from disgraced in the Perth Cup before backing up a week later where he found a race like this and duly bolted up under Pike. Drops in weight from last start thanks to the claim and Holly Watson is an apprentice I’m not afraid to back. Keen.
9 Free Solo (Bet Now: $15.00) has seemed a bit one paced in all runs this time in so I do think a rise to 2200m will suit. Ran over 2000m at Pinjarra last start where he seemed to get every chance behind the speed but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Hoist The Colours. Upside to come, up in trip, he runs well.
2 Chuck A Luck (Bet Now: $11.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over 1800m here last Saturday. He got a fair way back in the run and was never really a winning threat, but liked the way he finished his race off behind Bogart. Has won up to 2100m so 2200m here should be fine and has upside to come.
Race 7. Vale Dr Joe McDermott Handicap (72+) 1100m
I think the smaller field will ensure that 5 Miss Frost (Bet Now: $6.00) is within range so I’ll take a chance with her fresh. Resumes for Luke Fernie, having not raced since July 24 when close up in defeat but never really a threat behind the then in form Dia De La Raza. Liked a recent Belmont trial and can sprint well fresh. Just doesn’t want to concede too much head start.
9 Olga Luisa (Bet Now: $15.00) is a speed demon for the Ballantyne camp that will ensure this is a truly run 1100m. Comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since December 16 when a strong on speed winner down the straight at Pinjarra. She tends to race best on the fresh side so keen to see how she goes.
8 Nobel Laurence (Bet Now: $6.00) will be strong late if they overdo it in front. He resumes and while he is better suited over a bit further, he really came of age when last in work and established himself as a Saturday metro horse. This might be a prep run for something later on, but he’ll be strong late.
Race 8. Western Racepix Handicap (1MW) 1200m
4 Miss Vasari (Bet Now: $3.90) on top in a tricky race. Dan Morton trained mare that was close up in the Epona Classic two back before racing over 1400m here in a fast run race and she was just gassed chasing but far from disgraced behind a beauty, Cheval De Vega. Back to 1200m, back a fair bit in depth, she appeals.
2 Jedi Mind (Bet Now: $5.00) deserves another chance. I liked him a lot when he raced at this track/distance two weeks ago but gee he was ordinary after seemingly getting every chance behind the speed. Runs prior suggested a win wasn’t far off, so be forgiving of one poor run. But this is D-Day.
9 Tycoon Legend (Bet Now: $26.00) is on the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday when near the speed throughout, chasing, and was game in defeat I thought when fourth to Pink Carats. He loomed but just died on the run. Hard fit now and up to 1200m, he’s a knockout chance.
Race 9. Happy Birthday Callie Burton Handicap (1MW) 1800m
The gate makes things tricky for 7 Prized Miss (Bet Now: $4.60) but she does have more upside than most and I dare say has the most progression. Ran over 1400m at Pinjarra a tick over two weeks ago where she was given a peach by Pike and once she got clear, she charged late and was impressive. Off that, 1800m here is fine and is hard to beat.
3 Fairy Fast (Bet Now: $5.00) is knocking on the door to win for Team Williams. Attempted to lead throughout over the mile here a fortnight back and gave a strong kick, but had to settle for a narrow second to Vital Flirt. 1800m, I think, will be okay provided she is ridden conservatively.
1 Zackariah Beau (Bet Now: $15.00) should be suited up to 1800m. He ran over the mile here two weeks back and closed off strongly against the race shape when third to Bruce Almighty. That was a strong 72+. He now drops to a 1MW race. Even allowing for the 60kg impost, he has to go close.
Race 10. Celebration Of Life Day Trophy (84+) 1500m
8 Proconsent (Bet Now: $2.60) looks to pick himself. Adam Durrant trained gelding that is flying this time in. Narrow second to Chili Is Hot two back before getting a fair way out of his ground two weeks and closed off strongly behind Lorentinio. Gate one, he’ll get run of the race and is hard to beat.
6 Lorentinio (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the map horse given he appears to be the lone leader and he is such a tough horse to get past when he is allowed to control in front. He got that set up in that race mentioned above and voila, he won impressively. Last bit will test, but he’ll give a bold sight.
3 Luke’s Gold (Bet Now: $15.00) will run his usual honest race. He was chasing Lorentinio from the outset in that race mentioned above and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a fourth. I doubt he wins, but I think he has to go in everything given he can surprise from time to time.
Race 11. Amelia Park Handicap (66+) 1400m
7 Burnya To Survive (Bet Now: $2.60) is one of the improved gallopers in WA at the moment. 3/3 this time in, the latest coming over 1200m here two weeks ago when charging home from near last on the turn to nail them late and record a big win. The way he finds the line, 1400m is okay and gets Paul Harvey. Good thing to close out the meeting.
4 Reign Of Fire (Bet Now: $4.50) for me in the get out. Colin Webster trains this gelding and he’s been quite good in two runs back from a break, finishing third in both runs, which have over 1200m here, the latest being three weeks ago. I’d like to see him ridden cold and launch late. Just not sure he can do that from the draw but is a threat.
2 Creator (Bet Now: $4.00) is racing well this time in for the Gangemi team. Last couple have come over 1400m at Pinjarra, winning two back before a game third in the Mandurah Cup last time after sitting wide in the run. Gets a suck run from the draw and I think only runs well.
