Nine races have been set down for Flemington on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
The Straight Six π: View the Field and Odds for The Straight Six
Race 1. (11:50) Fanfave (Bm84) 2500m
I think 4 Accountability (Bet Now:Β $6.00 TOP ODDS) is a great each way gamble here to my eye. Chris Waller trained stayed that is two weeks between runs after racing over 2000m at Caulfield in a strong B100 when down the track behind Milford but the last little bit of the race, he was warming to the task, so I think hard fit now and up to 2500m and back miles in grade/depth, he only runs well IMO.
7 Pesto (Bet Now:Β $10.00 TOP ODDS) comes to Melbourne in search of dry ground for Team Hawkes. He ran on an absolute bottomless at Warwick Farm last statr and battled away okay behind a swimmer in Main Stage, but beat the rest comfortably enough. Firmer footing, hard fit and brings the totally different form.
8 Reflect The Stars (Bet Now:Β $10.00 TOP ODDS) has a good second up record and up to 2500m is a big tick for her. Resumed in the Gold Heath at Caulfield where the race shape wasn’t suited to her so be forgiving of the effort, which actually wasn’t too bad all things being equal. Back to this level, with a good second up record, she’s in the mix.
Race 2. (12:25) Donate @ Njt.Org.Au Hcp 1400m
1 Brosnan (Bet Now:Β $2.90 TOP ODDS) has a class edge and I think that gets him home. Hasn’t raced since the Sires where he, like most, strugled on the heavy track, but he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Fireburn. Back to off season racing, if he’s anywhere near right re fitness, he wins.
2 Lethal Thoughts (Bet Now:Β $4.00 TOP ODDS) looks to have his share of talent for the Maher/Eustace camp. He was a short priced elect when debuting at Sale. He took a while to wind into his work but surged hard late to get the win in a close finish. He’ll eat up 1400m and is in the right camp for a progressive youngster.
13 Far From Discreet (Bet Now:Β $7.00 TOP ODDS) should eat up 1400m. Debuted for Phillip Stokes over 1200m under the lights at Cranbourne where she got badly held up at a crucial stage and with clear air, I think she wins instead of a third to Portray. 1400m on the bigger track, she’s in the mix.
Race 3. (13:00) Troa Supports Njt Hcp 2000m
2 Flash Feeling (Bet Now:Β $3.90 TOP ODDS) to repeat the dose from last Saturday, which was a big win over 1700m here. Wasn’t the strongest race, like this event, but the win was big given he was pretty much the only horse in the race to make significant ground, surging hard late to win. Off that, 2000m is fine here and it’s very winnable.
3 Natural Mystic (Bet Now:Β $9.50 TOP ODDS) looks another progressive three year old for the Price/Kent Jr camp, a stable littered with promising youngsters. He debuted over the mile at Pakenham and I loved the way he fought from on speed. He was there to be run down but found under pressure to score. Bred to eat up 2000m and has more upside than most.
11 Brings The Stars (Bet Now:Β $21.00 TOP ODDS) was an emergency for the SA Derby, where he had no chance of winning. But, he’s in with a shout here, purely from an upeisde perspective. Latest run came at Geelong where he was a bit one paced when asked for the effort but was good late. If he can settle closer in the run, he could fill a first four spot.
Race 4. (13:35) Sofitel Melb. On Collins-Bm78 1400m
4 Defining (Bet Now:Β $4.40 TOP ODDS) is hard to beat. She ran three weeks back in the Nitschke and while she wasn’t going to beat Illation, she clearly should have finished much closer. She got badly held up on the turn and lost all momentum while the eventual winner was off and gone. I think she’s one of the hardest to beat against these.
2 Canbya (Bet Now:Β $13.00 TOP ODDS) can win again. James Cummings trained filly that was well specked at odds when resuming three weeks ago at Sandown and with the lightweight, she charged late from off the speed to blouse them near the peg for a super win. Fitter, you’d like to think there is improvement to come.
10 Glitter N Gold (Bet Now:Β $21.00 TOP ODDS) will be dangerous with a significant jockey upgrade and gate one. She comes through the Canbya race mentioned above where she got a mile back out of her ground and while she was never a threat, her finale was very good. If the inside gate is used to advantage, she’ll take beating.
Race 5. (14:10) Ecycle Solutions Trophy 1100m
5 Star Patrol (Bet Now:Β $1.40) looks potentially Stakes class. Has been kept on ice for Clinton McDonald since giving them an absolute spanking down the straight here on Anzac Day, winning by seven and smashing the clock, running times that would measure up at Group l level. If that is the level he can consistenly race at, good luck beating him here.
13 Outback Action (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is the only real threat on paper. Progressive three year old for Peter Moody that comes to town off the back of a spank job maiden win at Mornington where he led throughout and gave nothing else a look in. I doubt he beats Star Patrol but runs well regardless.
1 Scissor Step (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is a first four contender. He an at Caulfield two weeks back and had little luck in the straight. I doubt he wins, but clearly should have finishe closer. Yet to run at Flemington, but is trained here and has solid form lines around him, so he’s one for exotics.
Race 6. (14:45) Pfd Food Services (Bm84) 1800m
14 Worthily (Bet Now:Β $5.00) on top. Promising import for the Maher/Eustace that debuted at Sale on Good Friday and tried his guts out, but was no match for a quality horse in Uncle Bryn, running second, but beat the rest comfortably. Fitter and up to 1800m, he’ll take beating.
18 Coolth (Bet Now:Β $3.60) is on the seven day back up for Team mcEvoy after racing here last Satrurday and really, he should have gone close to winning, but had no luck in the straight. In saying that, that has been the story of his life. He’s got an awful racing pattern, but that said, he is racing well, and third, hard fit, it’s just about D-Day.
11 Born A King (Bet Now:Β $15.00) will love firmer footing. Frankel gelding for Chris Waller that has had two runs back from a spell. Good late fresh at Hawkesbury behind Kalapour before going to Sandown where he loomed to be a threat but the wet track just brought him undone. A firmer deck this time around, he has the quality to measure up.
Race 7. (15:25) The Straight Six 1200m
Keen on 9 Front Page (Bet Now:Β $3.60). Would have loved to see him go to The Goodwood but he comes here, where he has a win at the track/distance. Resumed with a bang in the Town Plate at Wagga where he sat on a genuine speed before being clicked up and away he went, giving them a spanking. He only runs well.
14 Curran (Bet Now:Β $10.00) hasn’t won in a while but I think he has returned in good order. Resumed in the Bel Esprit and produced his customary finale from the back when third to Extreme Warrior, beaten just under a length. Gets a soft trip and will launch late at good odds.
17 Florescent Star (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is knocking on the door to win one for Team Yargi. Good return down at Caulfield behind Juan Diva before racing down the straight at Flemington where she worked to the line pretty well but was clearly no match for I Am Me. I think that form reads quite well for this so she commands respect.
Race 8. (16:05) Tcl Tv (Bm100) 1600m
13 Tuvalu (Bet Now:Β $2.45) is Stakes class for Lindsey Smith and hopefully this is the prep where he can confirm that. Was a notable drifter in betting but his class came to the fore and was strong to the line and through it in winning. Fitter, up in trip, with enormous upside, he rates highly.
8 Skyman (Bet Now:Β $8.00) doesn’t win out of turn but I think he has come back in really good order. Both runs this time in have been eye catchers, first up behind Ayrton in the Victoria Handicap before warming to the task late two weeks ago behind Mankayan. Like him up to 1800m and third up, should be hard fit.
15 Vitruvius (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is knocking on the door to win. Narrow second at Bendigo first up before going to Sandown where he looked the winner when booting for home but was nailed right on the peg by Sir Davy. Third up on the big track, firmer footing, he gets his chance.
Race 9. (16:40) Off The Track Comm. Trpy-Bm70 1100m
9 Circularity (Bet Now:Β $15.00) for me in the get out. Team Freedman of the NSW kind trains this gelding, who is racing in a purple patch. Strong win last time out during the Wagga Carnival, aided by a peach from Tommy Berry. Stable are happy to travel them in search of a win, and drawn wide, with Josh Richards and his 2kg claim, I think he gets an ideal set up.
4 Zac De Boss (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a Simon Zahra trained gelding that has been racing quite consistently at the moment. Far from disgraced two back behind Don’ttelltheboss before going to Flemington again on Anzac Day and looked home when asked for the big effort but was nabbed late by Beehunter. Knocking on the door and deserves another win.
2 Yulong Storm (Bet Now:Β $21.00) has a good record down the straight. He was an eye catcher fresh at Bendigo before racing here where he was down the track in a strong race won by Beehunter. Back to this grade, with the claim, off his previous form, he’s good enough to take this out.
