Race 1. (13:00) Sportsbet Jockey Watch Mdn Plate 1200m
1 Electric Elvis (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Time Test that resumes for Grahame Begg. He hasn’t raced since his debut on Bendigo Cup Day when wide no cover and tired to finish down the track. Given a good break, and his trial/jumpout work has been strong. Despite the tricky gate, he’s the one for me.
9 Machete (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Hellbent filly that is on debut. Moody/Coleman trains this girl, who has had three jumpouts this time in to get ready for start one after formerly being in Sydney under Team Hawkes. She has looked the part and the stable can get them ready for a debut win, so watch betting.
5 Verhoeven (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Brutal that is first up for Team Freedman. He debuted over this trip at Geelong in December when back in the run and made up headway without threatening behind a good horse, Stormy Grove. Jumpout work has been encouraging, he looks talented…a threat.
Race 2. (13:35) Mrc Foundation Gala May 8 Mdn Plate 1400m
14 Street Lark (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the debut run, which came over 1300m at Cranbourne where she was near the speed and she tried hard but couldn’t quite get past Grouse Mountain. Bred to appreciate further so a rise to 1400m suits and this isn’t a deep contest overall.
6 Dark Simba (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Hayes trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Dec 18 at Caulfield Heath when placing over 1800m, getting back off the speed but worked home with purpose in a good effort in defeat. Couple of jumpouts under the belt, watch betting.
12 Kaddari (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one for exotics. She ran over this trip at Pakenam last time when off speed and chased with purpose in the straight I thought when second to Magnemite. She has that 1400m grounding, hard fit…one for exotics.
Race 3. (14:10) Sportsbet Fast Form (Bm70) 1400m
7 Muirfield (Bet Now: $SP.00) is progressive and on the up for Grahame Begg. He has been strong in two career outings, both at Geelong. He placed on debut over 1200m before a maiden win over 1400m when on speed and he was strong to the line in winning. Wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Mornington Guineas so with that in mind, he takes beating here.
1 Supernima (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been pretty good this time in and commands respect. He took on the older horses a couple of weeks back at Caulfield and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind the in form Hughes. Back to this level, good racing style, he appeals.
9 Southern Money (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes to town for Team Hayes off the back of a first up maiden win at Mornington where she had the right run in transit and finished best to score. Harder here with more depth, but think she can measure up.
Race 4. (14:45) Lockettled.au (Bm70) 3000m
3 Lodbrok (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Ciaron Maher since a track/distance win where he got the beaut run in transit before angling clear and in a driving go, he finished best to score. Tick over trial last week at Caulfield was strong and is a proven performer at the trip.
5 Montepulciano (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a South Australian raider for Team Jolly that is a query at the trip but you have to respect the stable whey they come across. Market said he wasn’t there to play last time over 2100m here and ran accordingly when down the track. The rise in trip, I think, is okay, and a good lead that Craig Williams is booked. He is the go to rider for the stable in Melbourne.
7 Gran Caballo (Bet Now: $SP.00) does seem quite one paced so 3000m looks ideal. He ran over this trip at Terang last time and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when third to Highness. Tick over trial was good, he has the GaiBott polish, he can threaten.
Race 5. (15:20) Sportsbet Feed (Bm64) 2400m
1 Sing For Peace (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a great each way gamble for mine. Team Payne trained gelding that resumed over 2000m at Ballarat where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. He has had a tick over jumps trial, which should sharpen him up, and he gets in well after the claim.
5 My Roca Fella (Bet Now: $SP.00) likely lands on speed and will give cheek, as seen at Mornington last start over 2460m and he did give a good sight but just couldn’t quite finish the job behind Move On In. Gets in well after the claim and the depth here isn’t deep.
4 Inthelapofthegods (Bet Now: $SP.00) has run well at 2400m previously so don’t dismiss him. He ran over 2080m at Cranbourne last start and was solid enough in defeat after getting a decent run in transit and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. Hard fit, can press forward…knockout hope.
Race 6. (15:55) Ive > (Bm70) 1200m
I think 5 Quiseen (Bet Now: $SP.00) can measure up here. Archie Alexander trained mare that comes to town off the back of a win at Ballarat where she gave them a start and a beating, and was impressiv the way she put them away late in the piece. Bit of depth to this field but confident she can hold her own.
2 Written Bligh (Bet Now: $SP.00) should welcome the return to this level after racing down the straight at Flemington in a strong Mares race when far from disgraced in defeat behind A Little Deep, who looks destined for better races, so the form around that reads well, and back to this level, she appeals.
9 Pardon My French (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came at Cranbourne over 1300m when off speed and she kept chasing but was never really threatening behind Prancing Queen. Has run well second up previously and this race has been hit hard by scratchings.
Race 7. (16:30) Senet Gambling Law Experts (Bm64) 1200m
5 Illative (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the best horse in the race for mine and I’ll bank on that class getting her home. She resumes for Price/Kent, having not raced since Ballarat Cup Day in December when far from disgraced in defeat behind Cleo Cat, who was flying at the time. Jumpout work has been strong and she strikes a winnable race.
4 Varane (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here around a month between runs since racing over 1400m here when near hte speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when third to Tumbling. Back to 1200m, gets the claim, his best is good enough to win.
11 Smokey Warrior (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout chance at odds. She is on the back up after racing last week at Benalla when off speed and chased strongly enough in the straight behind Rocket Tiger. Maps to do no work in the run and be strong late.
Race 8. (17:05) Sportsbet More Places (Bm70) 1600m
16 Narbold (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top in the get out. He resumed over 1400m here when drawn wide, spotted those in front too much head start, but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Bossy Benita. Gear tinkering to sharpen him up and he maps to settle much closer in the run.
7 Liberami (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door. She has placed in four of her past five, the latest being last Saturday at Bendigo where she got a mile back against the pattern but worked home with real purpose late behind Scheelite. I think that form reads well for this.
2 Gawnski (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Jason Warren and is one of the key threats. He hasn’t raced since March 8 when making it two wins on the bounce, knuckling down with purpose late to get the win. Tick over jumpout was good, gets the claim, he’s a genuine animal…definite winning chance.
