Night racing continues at Cranbourne this Friday. Weather is fine, track is soft (6) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (18:15) Hygain Tracktorque Mdn Plate 1000m
4 Scampi (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be taking care of these, all things being equal. He is a son of Blue Point that returns as a gelding for Ciaron Maher and he looks to have jumped out super in readiness for the return. Ability wise, he does look to have lengths on this lot.
5 Brazenly (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Jack Laing trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since Dec 27 at Mornington when fourth over 1000m after leading. Given a good break and has had extensive trial work for the return, so watch betting.
9 Sweet September (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver for Team Hayes. She debuted over 1100m at Ararat where she was quite raw and new to the caper, failing to get involved when down the track. She had jumped out well prior so I wouldn’t dismiss her.
Race 2. (18:45) Bunyip Equipment Mdn Plate 1200m
11 Written Story (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a big price for mine. Clayton Douglas trained filly that debuted over 1000m at Pakenham where she got back in the run and did make up minor headway without threatening. Blinkers go on to sharpen her up and has a gate to settle much closer. Good each way speck IMO.
9 Sudden Change (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps back up to 1200m for Matt Laurie after racing over 1100m at Benalla last time out when just off the speed and presented to be a threat but just couldn’t quite get there. 1200m is a slight query but has a kind map and stable is flying.
4 Heavenfield (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Kermadec that resumes for James Cummings. This girl is first up, having not raced since Nov 12 at Hawkesbury when wide no cover on speed and stuck on bravely in defeat. Given a good break and her trial/jumpout work to get ready has been encouraging. Watch betting.
Race 3. (19:15) Core Protective Group Mdn Plate 1400m
5 Kissed Earth (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned well and is a key threat after resuming over this trip at Pakenham. She got a fair way back off the speed and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up ground and was pretty good late. Hard to beat if ridden with more intent.
1 Bologna Baby (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m for Grahame Begg. She resumed over 1200m at Pakenham where I thought she could run a positive race but she just raced like she would improve with the run. Had jumped out well leading in so fitter, up to 1400m, she’s hard to beat.
9 Weightless (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one that can be entertained for exotics. She has had two career outings, the latest coming at Stony Creek when on speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late. Not sure she wins, but with her racing style, could pinch first four.
Race 4. (19:45) Springvale Rsl (Bm64) 1600m
6 Candle In The Dark (Bet Now: $SP.00) gets the nod for me. Chris Waller trained filly that resumes, having not raced since Jan 5 at Mornington over 1500m when near the speed and fought hard but just lacked the killer blow to make it 2/2 to start her career. Jumped out well for mine and could this be a filly for Waller that heads to Adelaide? If she wins here, I say yes.
2 Glenfinnian (Bet Now: $SP.00) will welcome the drop in depth after racing over the mile at Pakenham last time, landing on speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late behind Electric Belle, who won last Saturday at Caulfield to frank the form. Gets in well after the claim, hard to beat.
8 Star Croupier (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile after resuming over 1400m at Ballarat where she got off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat I thought behind Powerbound. Better set up here, not dismissing her.
Race 5. (20:15) Ladbrokes Owners Bonus Mdn Plate 1600m
7 Mollify (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag and she gets another golden chance here. Looked to have front end control last time out at Pakenham and was hailed as the winner, but was nabbed near the peg. If she gets a soft time of it in front, she’ll take beating against these.
10 Sweltering (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat. She ran over the mile at Sandown last start where she attempted to lead throughout and she gave a strong kick from the front but just tired late when fourth. Depth here is not as deep, will press forward and be around the mark.
4 Zinovation (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Price/Kent trained gelding that is on debut. He has had a couple of jumpouts at Cranbourne in readiness for the debut, both over 1200m and 1400m respectively, and each time he hasn’t looked too bad. Bred to be a handy stayer so watch betting.
Race 6. (20:45) Highview Accounting & Financial (Bm58) 1400m
2 British Poet (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1400m will suit for Reece Goodwin. Resumed with a bang over 1000m at Sale before going to 1200m at Pakenham where he just raced a touch on the flat side. Second up syndrome? Third up now, hard fit, he can bounce back.
4 No New Tricks (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1400m will be ideal after resuming over 1200m at The Valley when off speed and kept finding the line in defeat without threatening behind Merrigold. Getting on in years but that return was encouraging and does get Jamie Melham.
8 Juniors Queen (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better after the first up run over 1300m at Sandown when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly when down the track behind King Zephyr. Maps to get a sweet run in transit and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.
Race 7. (21:15) Peter & Lavella Darose Handicap 1000m
2 Licorice Prince (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the each way speck for the night. This gelding resumed over 1000m at Pakenham where he paraded quite big in condition and ran accordingly behind Toronado Boom. Maps to get a soft run in transit and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.
10 Give Faith (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a John McArdle trained filly that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Nov 22 at The Valley when far from disgraced in defeat behind Biancelli. Her jumpout work has been quite good and if she is going to head to better races, she’d want to be going close here.
7 Fighting Samurai (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1000m at Pakenham where she paraded like she would improve with the run and that’s how it panned out. She hadn’t jumped out publicly prior so I think she’ll take good improvement and this isn’t strong on paper.
