Seven races have been set down for Canterbury on Friday night. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (18:00) Tab Mdn Hcp 1250m
8 State Visit (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good mover for Ciaron Maher and I think he can make a winning debut. He has had two trials in readiness for start one, the latest at Kembla when a well held third behind Bel Merci but she looks top shelf re jvueniles and he hit the line nicely. Like him fresh at 1250m and maps ideally.
6 Matias (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Snitzel that is on debut for Ryan/Alexiou. He trialled at Rosehill recently where he sort of half crabbed around the turn but once he balanced up in the straight, gee he moved nicely I thought to win the trial. Nash on for start one, he appeals.
4 Barbarossa (Bet Now: $SP.00), I think, will be okay at 1250m. He ran over 1000m at Canberra last start, potentially looking at him as a Black Opal horse. He got off speed and chased strongly in the straight but found one better in Steel Knight. Was a few weeks between runs and was back in trip so back up in trip, he can run a positive race.
Race 2. (18:30) Chc Powering The Chase (Bm64) 1550m
9 Fiftyfivechevy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket here in what looks an open contest. He resumed over 1400m at Kembla where he got off speed but was trucking before being clicked up and loomed to win but first up, condition just gave way late. Fitter and up in trip, I think he can run really well against these.
8 Scalable (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Bjorn Baker trained filly that has an engine under the hood. Market said she was a good thing when breaking the maiden tag last time here, but it wasn’t without a few nervous moments. She knuckled down with real purpose late to win and win well. The rise in trip is ideal and she has good talent.
2 Bravissima (Bet Now: $SP.00) has earned a crack in town after being 3/3 this time in, the latest win coming at Canberra when landing on speed and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and win. Good test here, but think she can measure up.
Race 3. (19:00) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1250m
11 Unreachable (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a great speck here at odds. Jeremy Sylvester trained mare that has been runner up her past two, firstly at Scone before going to the Beaumont track at Newcastle when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat. If she can get luck from the gate, she’ll launch at them and be strongest at the end.
2 Ramones (Bet Now: $SP.00) will attempt to lead throughout, as seen last time at Newcastle. He gave a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through when run down late by Welcometobarbados. Has run well at the track/distance and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
10 Princess Mary (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one to be entertained at a price. She ran three weeks back in the Highway at Rosehill where she ran over 1500m, getting a fair way out of her ground but her finale was more than sound in defeat. Likely spots them a start but should be strong late and a win wouldn’t shock.
Race 4. (19:30) Kia Evening Star (Bm78) 1550m
5 All In The Mind (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win. He ran two weeks ago at this track/distance when back off the speed and against the race shape/track pattern, he was never really a winning threat but kept finding the line in defeat behind Sweysive. More positive ride, he takes beating.
6 Noble Soldier (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well for Team Price and is one of the leading contenders off the back of a fourth over 1350m here three weeks ago when just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when a close up fourth to Spicy Hotpot. The rise to 1550m is fine and he strikes a winnable race.
3 Awash (Bet Now: $SP.00) is second up and has good upside/improvement. He resumed over 1400m a few weeks back at Randwick where he paraded like he would improve with the run and that’s how it panned out behind Headley Grange. Fitter and up in trip, his best is good enough.
Race 5. (20:00) Precise Air (Bm64) 1900m
4 Sting In The Tail (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Chris Waller. His recent runs have come at this track/distance, the latest run being two weeks ago where he was off speed and chased with purpose late in the piece but just found one better in Smart Legend. Can definitely bounce back here.
8 Presley (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver for Neasham/Archibald. Market kept him safe in betting when resuming over 1400m at Canberra when just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when fourth to Bravissima. Straight to 1900m, he’s a key threat.
2 Malabar (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fourth to Smart Legend in the race mentioned above from two weeks back. He got into a decent spot off the speed and tried hard but just lacked the finale to go with them late in the piece. Threat at odds if he can overcome the tricky draw.
Race 6. (20:30) Schweppes (Bm72) 1250m
10 Koios (Bet Now: $SP.00) can measure up here for mine. He looked a moral when racing in a Scone maiden last time and didn’t give his fans a moment of worry, winning comfortably after sitting on speed, justifying the weight of support. He has promised to be a nice horse and now he has that win under the belt, confidence is up, he can go on with it.
4 Aardvark (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Corstens/Larkin, he now finds himself with GaiBott. His latest run came in the Danehill when outclassed behind First Settler. Given a good break, gelded, trialled well…watch the market.
1 Super Bright (Bet Now: $SP.00) isn’t racing in too bad form at present for Nathan Doyle. She got off speed at Warwick Farm last time and chased strongly when clear, finishing a close up second to Amicus Curiae. Has run well at the track/distance previously, so she commands respect.
Race 7. (21:00) The Agency Real Estate (Bm72) 1100m
6 Zoukerino (Bet Now: $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but looks a horse that will suit J Collett. Riding cold, for luck and slicing through late. He ran over this track/distance last time out where he got back in the run and was held up at times but was good late when eventually clear. If the breaks go his way, he’ll be really hard to hold out.
8 Joyner (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Joe Pride trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since Dec 6 on the Kenso when placing over 1400m behind the very promising Candlewick. Looked sharp in a recent Warwick Farm trial win and has a good racing style.
2 Chief Conductor (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a tricky gate to overcome but his best is good enough. Forgive/forget his run last time at Warwick Farm, sitting wide no cover throughout and just feeling the pinch late behind Amicus Curiae. If he can overcome the gate, he can threaten.
