Nine races will be run and won at Randwick this Saturday, transferred from Warwick Farm due to the heat. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:15) TAB VENUE MODE HANDICAP 1200m
11 Aeecee Power (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is a Chris Waller first starter that should be respected here. This filly trialled at Warwick Farm when on speed under Rory Hutchings and looked to move very well when winning the trial narrowly but impressively. Was one of the quicker trials of the morning and she looked like she had more to offer, then backed that up last week at Randwick when off the speed and dashing hard when given clear air, so keen to see how she goes here.
Not dropping off 3 Chilliwack (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) as a horse. On face value, he was comfortably held by Muntaseera on debut at Rosehill three weeks ago but that filly gave this colt a decent bump and he threw the toys out of the cot for a few strides before balancing up again and finishing off okay. He’ll take really good improvement off that and stable is starting to hum with their juveniles.
I know Ciaron Maher has a big opinion of 10 The Big Easy (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) and I don’t think you can dismiss the colt off the debut run at the Valley given he was tardy away, then forced wide on the turn and peaked on the run late. Had been trialling/working strongly leading in, so I won’t write him off yet because the stable are very good when on the road.
Race 2. (13:50) SCHWEPPES HANDICAP 1400m
9 Edison (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS) with the light weight will do me here, just. He is on the seven day back up after racing over 1100m here last Saturday where he was tardy away and forced to sit back near last in the run but really liked the way he closed his race off behind Superium. Up to 1400m looks a big tick and can sit closer in the run from the gate.
1 Cinquedea (Bet Now: $3.50 TOP ODDS) is a Team Freedman trained gelding that had one trial leading into his resumption at Kembla a few weeks ago where he sat worse than midfield in a slowly run race so he was really no chance after a few hundred metres but loved the way he found the line late in the piece behind Trumbull. Fitter, eats up extra ground and has enormous upside.
2 Napoleon Solo (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is a month between runs for the Snowden camp who was doing nothing until the Blinkers went on at Kembla and despite doing work in the run, he was far too good for his rivals in an impressive return to form. I was keen on him as a Queensland Derby horse during the Winter, but perhaps 1400-1600m is his go in life.
Race 3. (14:25) HIGHWAY HANDICAP (C2) 1300m
With the scratchings, this race is wide open with a host of chances, but I think the value in the race has to be 14 Hiroko (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS). This bloke was very good at Coffs just over two weeks ago when back off the speed and charging late to just miss out on picking up the handy galloper Alternative Facts, a proven Highway performer. The form line I want to note is the 2YO race during the Grafton. Elger, the fav, won the race, yet had the race set up to suit, while Hiroko was wide no cover and only bloused late. Gets a 3.5kg weight swing on that horse and draws better.
11 Badoosh (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS) is a Matty Dunn trained gelding who looks one of the leading contenders here. Resumed at the midweeks at the Gold Coast and recorded a rather sharp maiden win, doing it comfortably near the line yet still ran very good late splits. Due to the Matty Dunn factor, he’s well found, but off that win, has to be respected.
I’m giving respect to 12 Peloso Lass (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS). Really sharp time she ran when winning the maiden at Dubbo two back before going to a Rosehill Highway three weeks ago won by Run Like A Rebel and should have finished much closer. Was building good momentum, then got stopped in her tracks with around 150m to go. McEvoy on and I think the Randwick 1300m will suit.
Race 4. (15:00) BISLEY WORKWEAR HANDICAP 2000m
Just leaning the way of 6 Guise (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS). Chris Waller seems to have this mare back on track after a patch there where she seemed to be struggling. Tough effort two back at Warwick Farm when second to stablemate Dark Pearl before getting the job done two weeks ago at Rosehill when wearing down Fun Fact in a tight go to the line. Remains well weighted and I think the Randwick 2000m will suit her.
2 Fun Fact (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets a great chance here. Sam Clenton rode him a treat on speed at Rosehill a fortnight back and looked the winner when he kicked, but just lacked that hard fitness and Guise was too good for him, just. Has the hard fitness under the belt and should prove hard to run down.
For the most part, I think 5 Master Shuhood (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) has been disappointing from a betting perspective, but he’s teasing and a win here certainly wouldn’t surprise. He comes through the Guise race from two weeks ago when held up for a few strides and when clear, he worked home pretty well. Suited at Randwick, hard fit…he could easily win this without surprising me.
Race 5. (15:40) DECEMBER HANDICAP 1400m
5 Smartedge (Bet Now: $3.40) is a Team Snowden trained gelding that had trialled up okay prior to resuming over 1400m two weeks back at Rosehill and it was a definite pass mark I felt. Lumped the 60.5kg and tried hard to pick up, but Toryjoy dominated from the front and was too good for her rivals, but Smartedge was good. Weight relief, fitter, he can run a positive race again.
6 Asterius (Bet Now: $6.00) is a month between runs for Chris Waller since contesting the Gong at Kembla where he didn’t really get the clearest of paths in the straight but at the same time, I was expecting more from him. Think back to 1400m is idea for him and he draws to stalk the likely leaders Passage Of Time and Special Missile. Hard to beat.
1 Redouble (Bet Now: $8.00) has eyes towards the Magic Millions so I’m sure whatever he does here, he will improve on, but he does have class and that will carry him a long way. Hasn’t raced since the Hunter at Newcastle when back in a slowly run affair and was never in the mix behind Savatiano. Freshened up and loved the way he went in a trial last week. He’ll be a flashing light run towards the Gold Coast I’m guessing.
Race 6. (16:20) SKY RACING ACTIVE HANDICAP 1000m
Can make a case at big odds for 10 Epic Dan (Bet Now: $35.00), who resumes for Greg Hickman, formerly with Allan Kehoe. He’s a handy sprinter that has run well in town before and the set up here is ideal for his racing pattern. Has a very good fresh record and last prep went within a lip of beating Southern Lad, which reads well for this, and loved the way he closed off in a fast Hawkesbury trial.
2 Broken Arrows… (Bet Now: $4.60) it was nearly ride of the year from McEvoy to win several weeks ago at Kembla, but just got held up for a stride or two and that cost him the win I think when a narrow second to stablemate Ghostly. The Randwick 1000m is ideal for a horse with his racing pattern, he’s flying and for mine will take some beating.
8 Gododdin (Bet Now: $8.50) is a talented daughter of Exceed And Excel for the James Cummings camp that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since August 31 at Caulfield when racing over 1200m against the mares and looked a tired horse behind Dawn Dawn. Been given a good break and is lethal when produced fresh hence why she’s had just the one soft trial.
Race 7. (17:00) HEINEKEN 3 HANDICAP 1400m
Hard to get away from 4 Word For Word (Bet Now: $2.25) for Chris Waller. This mare resumed over 1350m at Rosehill two weeks ago and if you were on, it was just an ugly watch and could easily make a case that she should have won had she got clear air throughout in the straight. Up to 1400m, fitter, and can sit near the speed. She’s the one to beat.
3 Handspun (Bet Now: $4.00) is flying for James Cummings. Was bolters odds first up at Kembla and nearly got the job done when beaten a lip by Kylease. Then went to Rosehill two weeks ago and confirmed that fresh effort was no fluke with a strong win, thanks to a ballsy ride from Bowman, who took a narrow gap and burst through. Hard fit now, she’s a leading chance.
6 Asharani (Bet Now: $8.50) is a big watch here. Kris Lees trained mare that resumed under the lights at Canterbury and was a clear unlucky runner behind Discharged. Full of running behind them but couldn’t get clear air and by the time she did, it was race over. Bigger track, fitter, up to 1400m, and does have a touch of class about her.
Race 8. (17:40) RANVET HANDICAP 1200m
I think 9 Taniko (Bet Now: $4.20) is better at 1000m/1100m but 1200m here should be okay for her and it was hard to miss her effort first up behind Stephan at Rosehill. Paraded like she would need the run but despite that, she closed off with real purpose to run an eye catching third to the in form Gratz Vella sprinter. She saves her best for dry ground and sitting off a good speed.
It was an interesting steer from Nash aboard 5 Southern Lad (Bet Now: $4.80) two weeks back at Rosehill. They elected to ride him forward from the sticky gate and got on speed before being dragged back behind the pace for cover and he was there to win, but couldn’t finish it off. He’s much better ridden cold so if that happens here, he can bounce back.
I took a chance on 1 Chauffeur (Bet Now: $13.00) in the Starlight off the back of a very impressive trial and he ran right up to that with a close up fourth to Spending To Win. Could make a case he should have placed given he had an interrupted path in the straight. Like him up to 1200m and the trial and run confirms he’s going well.
Race 9. (18:20) HYLAND HANDICAP 1600m
Fitter and up to the mile are a couple of key points that are leaning me the way of the John Ramsey trained 14 Pinup Miss (Bet Now: $6.50). Impressive winner two back at Newcastle before having three weeks off and racing at Rosehill where the tempo was against her but liked the way she found the line late behind Bobby Dee. Has more to come and if this is a genuinely run race, she’s the one I think.
10 Almerheri (Bet Now: $8.00) is a mare to be watched closely I feel. John Thompson trains her, who resumed in the Handspun race from two weeks ago where she was wide with cover and was building momentum before copping interference from Lucicello. Lost all momentum and winning hope, but balanced up and stuck on okay. Likes racing here and has upside.
8 Baanone (Bet Now: $9.00), I think, confirmed under the lights at Canterbury last time that he is best suited at a mile/middle distance trip rather than 2000m+. He should have won but just had no clear air til it was all over when beaten a lip by Reflectivity. How far he gets back from the gate is the query, but off last run, has to be respected.
