Seven races will be run and won under the lights at Canterbury on Friday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (18:15) Vinery Handicap 1250m
1 Destiny’s Bounty (Bet Now: $2.80) gets the Blinkers first time at start three. Narrow second on debut at Gosford behind Overlord before going to Warwick Farm and tried hard but was no match for Stick To Your Guns. He’s bred to handle a wet track should it remain to have juice in it and this is a winnable maiden.
4 Stromboli (Bet Now: $6.00) should be suited up to 1250m with the debut under the belt, which came over 1100m here and I thought his finale from near last in the run was more than sound in a good effort. If he can get luck from the tricky gate, he’ll take beating.
9 Transformation (Bet Now: $8.50) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but despite not winning, she hasn’t been too far away. Ran over 1100m at Gosford last time and tried hard, but was no match for Shadow Devil, who was amazing in winning last week, so the form reads super and maps okay from the draw.
Race 2. (18:45) Buy Better At Inglis Handicap 1250m
7 Ruinart (Bet Now: $3.50) clearly for me. I think she is a quality galloper for John O’Shea that resumes, having not raced since September 3 when very good from near last in the run at Wyong when third to another handy horse, Invincible Vision. She has trialled up super leading in. Just hope the inside gate is used.
3 Lamplady (Bet Now: $5.00) is a daughter of Counterattack on debut for Chris Waller. This girl has had a couple of trials to get ready for start one, the latest coming at Warwick Farm where she looked to go about her business quite nicely when a narrow second. Early market push suggests she comes here to run well.
9 Wonderwomen (Bet Now: $9.50) should be around the mark. Has finished runner up her past couple, the latest coming over 1100m here when a well held second to Dollar Magic in a maiden where I do think the form is a tad on the suspect side, but good racing style and inside gate keeps her in the mix.
Race 3. (19:15) Precise Fire Handicap (72) 1250m
7 Jal Lei (Bet Now: $1.60) is short but I think she wins. Resumes for John O’Shea, having not raced since the Winter when winning 2/2, the latest being a spank job on the Kenso track. She looks to be the most progressive of this lot and her trials indicate she’s ready to rock and roll fresh.
1 Evening Bride (Bet Now: $4.20) looks to have a decent engine under the hood and I think she can be dangerous. Resumed with a dominant win at Goulburn before proving that was no fluke with an even more impressive win at Gosford. Harder here, but in form and has upside I feel.
4 Miss Baltimore (Bet Now: $6.00) drops back to midweek grade and I think can be a big improver. Close up behind Lady Of Luxury fresh before going to Rosehill when doing a bit too much work on speed and tired late behind Rule Of Law. Back to this sort of race, she can run an improved race.
Race 4. (19:45) XXXX Handicap (72) 1550m
1 Intuition (Bet Now: $10.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way for Kurt Goldman. I think he has been quite good in three runs back from a break. Latest run came in the Moruya Cup in an on pace domination but finished his race off with real purpose. He can sit much closer in the run from the good draw and gets in nicely after the claim.
4 Maccomo (Bet Now: $2.35) is racing really well this time in for Joe Pride. His consistency was rewarded with a dominant win at this track/distance two weeks ago where he led throughout and gave them a spanking. Bit more depth, but has the right racing pattern for this track.
6 Savvy Crown (Bet Now: $11.00) can be an improver at odds. Jason Deamer trained gelding that resumed in a Midway two weeks back where he paraded like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out when down the track behind Oakfield Arrow. Fitter and up in trip, he can run an improved race.
Race 5. (20:15) Stud & Stable Staff Awards Handicap (72) 1900m
5 Grand Rock (Bet Now: $8.50) is a decent enough price to find out if he’s going any good. Couple of solid placings before racing over 2200m at Warwick Farm where to the eye, he was awful, but was 2/5 lame post race, so a clear excuse for him. Off the prior efforts, he’s definitely worth a throw at the stumps each way.
2 Maid Of Ore (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Nick Olive trained mare that is knocking on the door to win. Was on her back at odds last time out at this track/distance and she looked the winner on the turn but had to settle for a narrow second to My Demetra. Now she has found positive form, she can hold it.
11 Bedford Square (Bet Now: $10.00) lacks any real turn of foot but a truly run 1900m should be ideal for her. Ran over 2100m at Nowra last start where she was a $1.45 favourite and tried hard, but 2100m just found her out when second, with a gap to third. She should press forward from the gate and run her usual honest race.
Race 6. (20:45) Evening Star (72) 1100m
3 Sessions Road (Bet Now: $5.50) is worth a throw at the stumps each way for Team Hawkes. Comes to NSW after two runs in Melbourne to start the prep. Wide and tired late fresh behind Exeter before going to Caulfield where he pulled up with EIPH post race, so clear excuses in both runs. Maps super from the draw and his best is good enough.
8 Eye See Things (Bet Now: $3.50) is a daughter of Star Witness for John Thompson that resumes. Hasn’t raced since August 11 when producing an end of prep run at Newcastle behind a handy mare in Pearl Roan. Tends to race best on the fresh side and has trialled well leading in.
4 Bugalugs (Bet Now: $12.00) lacks the class of some of these, but off his resumption, I think he has to go in all multiples. Resumed in the Inverell Shorts where he was four wide no cover and was entitled to knock right up but he kept the finding the line in an excellent effort. Not sure he wins, but a definite first four threat.
Race 7. (21:15) The Agency Real Estate Handicap (72) 1200m
5 Nasturtium (Bet Now: $1.60) is 2/2 to start his career and think he can make it 3/3. Gave them an absolute spanking on debut at Hawkesbury before going to Gosford where he was dynamic from the front once again and ran good time. Got the right racing style and change up speed to win this and better races.
6 Quatenus (Bet Now: $2.70) has done nothing wrong in her six start career for James Cummings. Lovely ride from Reece Jones saw her win at the midweeks at Warwick Farm last time, albeit she had the right run in transit and did find the best part of the track. Bit more depth here but hard to knock how genuine she is.
8 Damaged (Bet Now: $9.50) looks the clear third pick, but a fair way off the first two IMO. Good second two back at Warwick Farm before going here where he was good late behind What Could Be. Small field helps his cause, he’ll run an honest race. Just doubt he wins.
