Adam Page gives us his runner by runner preview and analysis for tomorrow’s Roy Higgins Quality at Flemington racecourse. View his tips.
1. King Diamond
Lovely ride by Schofield to get the horse home last start over 2000m. Steps up to 2600m which is a massive concern for me carrying 58.5kg. In saying that, it is a very ordinary race and he might just pinch it.
2. Rabbuka
Hasn’t set the world on fire for a long time. Has shown good ability of the jumps in a couple of recent trials. Wait until the jumping season kicks off, then back him.
3. Vesper
Beautiful ride by Nick Hall to lead all the way at Caulfield last Saturday. He had every right to win by more than a length so that worries me a bit with him. The 58.5kg is a concern also but I think team Williams want to test out his staying capabilities because he could be a Cups horse in the Spring.
4. Muir
Did a power of work last start and he eventually finished well behind King Diamond. He steps up to a much more suitable journey here, he’ll be on the speed and no doubt he’ll be there at the finish.
5. Art Success
Ran a surprisingly good race in the Colac Cup behind Whelan when making up very good ground. His future is over the jumps so I wouldn’t expect him to trouble these.
6. Doosra Diamond
Hasn’t set the world on fire this campaign. Wait until he gets back to Moonee Valley.
7. Elmore
Closed off the race well last start at Moonee Valley when settling near the rear of the field. He is two from two at this track and distance and on that effort at Moonee Valley, he is a chance.
8. Pass Me By
Was given the run of the race last start but really struggled late in the race. Can’t have him.
9. Saddler’s Story
Finished off well behind King Diamond first up. Fitter, rises to 2600m and Bossy is riding. Also accepted for Adelaide. If he runs here, he’ll be hard to hold out.
10. White Yard
Scratched
11. Streaky Fella
Was most unlucky in the Launceston Cup as he had no room at all and nearly fell. With normal luck he probably wins. He can get redemption here. Looks beautifully placed.
12. Brough Superior
Travelled up like he was going to bolt in last start but he peaked on his run late. He is a very good jumper in the making but I wouldn’t be surprised if he filled a place.
13. Monthalia
One thing we know about this mare is that she’ll stay all day. Is she good enough to win here? It wouldn’t surprise me at all.
14. Sir Walter
He’ll be on the speed and just keep on keeping on. Not sure he is up to these. Back him at Moonee Valley when he races there next.
15. Our Serena
Finally got that much deserved win at Bendigo last start, swooping down the outside. Now that she has won, she can definitely go on with it now. Rate her highly in this.
16. Mateo
Really liked his win at Moonee Valley last start. He has always shown ability but maturity has let him down. Did the penny drop last start? He is also accepted for Adelaide.
Selections (Not in order): 7 Elmore, 9 Saddler’s Story, 11 Streaky Fella, 15 Our Serena
